Very bad waste of money due to faulty one – Unfortunately bought thought was a great one to have to steam rice & vegetables. Though put in our external attatched garage. Pulled it out of box for first time use. Washed internal bowl before use. Added washed rice, oil & water. Turned on would only stay on preheat & absorbed water setting would not start. Have wasted money on it. Should of… Read more
tested when bought it. Too late now have to bin it. Being digital can't change anything or make it start in anyway. Back to stove cooking rice. No wonder it got continued!
Unsafe plastic made steam basket – As it is used, the basket plastic steamer is reacting with the food, changing colours, it is unsafe to use and cannot be cleaned. I'm trying to find one build of stainless to replace it.
Garbage – Aldi you sux . Used for 3 months before throwing out. Total trash. Used every type of setting that was available. Brown was impossible to cook, white rice not much better. Always ended up boiling off the half cup of water left in with a saucepan. Usually left a half cup of water in the bottom after it stopped. Even on "fast cook" took ages… Read more
and left a mess. Tried less water/more rice etc. On normal setting it took forever. Picked up a new cheap one from a different chain outlet and it's fine, like my old one. Don't waste your time or money on this junk. I'm quite sure the designers/builders/sellers of this abomination have never cooked a grain of rice in their life.

Really good – Easy to use and has different features for different purposes
Excellent product!! – This cooker is not only the best rice cooker I’ve ever used it also has so many added extras. I have reheated meals and made steam buns and dumplings in the steamer. I am so impressed with this machine! Show details
Great simple and easy to use! – Purchased this for under $20 from Aldi 2020 Works great! Never owned a rice cooker and this cooker cooks the rice perfectly every time. I don’t measure, just add my rice and add water just above the rice, usually 1cm or so on high. Cheap price. Great size and a great product. No complaints :) Show details · 1
Best rice cooker ever own – Best rice cooker and steam I have ever own stream the Vegs excellent it worth Stars five and I would buy again can't fault this kitchen toys and clean up nice Show details
Died second use – This rice cooker is absolute, total and utter rubbish! I wish it were possible to give it zero stars! The stupid lump of junk died the second time we used it, leaving a horrible burnt electrical smell in the house! Utterly worthless piece of junk! Show details
The best of the best – Had Ours for well over 3 years with consistently daily use. Never had an issue. Was our second one. Worked really well even after the hinges on the lid broke off after becoming brittle. So decided to replace with another brand. Will really like to have our old lumina back as it was tops. Worst rice cooker I’ve had – Probably the worst piece of kitchen equipment I’ve ever owned in my entire life. The water spills over every single time and It never cooked evenly. Dried, burnt, soaking wet, a combination of all ? I’ve had it all. C’mon just $20 , I just chucked it to the bin. Show details
Better than expected – After reading a few reviews on Aldi's Rice Cooker, I decided to try it for myself anyway. It's a bargain-priced unit - but it does a great job. I noticed that several people mentioned the spatter that comes from the lid and makes a mess on the bench .. .. so to save this happening to me, I laid a light teatowel over the top, just in case. I'm… Read more
glad I did as it saved a little mess - but there wasn't much spatter anyway! We ended up with beautifully cooked brown rice and on another occasion lovely quinoa, which I cooked in vegetable stock to add a light flavour. For under $20, I'm extremely happy and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good, inexpensive Rice Cooker.
Unfortunately got a faulty one – I purchased one recently and after 4 uses it stopped working... ALDI refunded however no more stock available. Shame because the results were good the four times I used it.. Show details

This rice cooker overheated and melted – After a couple of weeks use, this product overheated and the plastic parts melted on it. After a bit of waiting around in the store, Aldi gave me a full refund. I have bought other Aldi electrical products; Bauhn Hi-fi and headphones, Sterling microwave, Crofton blender and although competitively priced they are rather low quality. There is an old saying; ‘buy cheap, buy twice’. I now avoid impulse buying of Aldi electrical products. Show details
Beware – Like others here this unit's element fused and caused the aluminium surrounding to melt into the plastic base almost causing a fire. I am in the process of contacting the ACCC recommending they look into a recall for this product. Just glad no harm came to my family or property.
Not quite perfect – Gave our good old reliable Sunveam to our daughters at Uni and went for the Aldi Lumina thinking it looked good.. WRONG Burns rice every time and very hard to clean the "non stick" surface.. Learnt my lesson .. Cheap is good but Good is not Cheap !!!!
Disappointing – I have used my Lumina rice cooker from Aldi several times and each time the rice is burnt on the bottom. I havent kept my receipt and gather Aldi won't take my word for it being a dud product so will most likely throw in bin and buy a Breville!
Very disappointed on Aldi Brand – I had old one which was working good for a few years thought of buying Aldi brand. Bought new one from Aldi, threw old one into bin. Every time we used new one it burns rice at the botttom and sometime it does not move from cook to warm. Then I realized old was gold.
Do not buy Lumina Rice Cooker – i bought this on Wednesday 4/feb/2015 and im so disappointed to see that my rice is burnt!!! never seen anything like this before, the bottom of the cooked rice is burnt!! We have been using rice cooker for many yeas and it's a must have for us asians and thought since it was on sale I will give it a try! But common Lumina why can't you make a… Read more
better product? This is the worst rice cooker ever it overheats, the timer is not accurate, my cooked rice smelt burnt and brown down the bottom!!!! taken this back to Aldis but can't get arefund even if I got the receipt and was told it was on sale for $17 and why do i vae the guts to complain??? You get what your moneys worth, is that what it is Aldis??? I chucked it in the bin and I won't give it away as it might burn somebody elses lives and put them in danger. Aldis should recall this product
Just Learn How to Cook Rice – Well i'm always open to gadgets in the kitchen, or should i say 'useful' gadgets. This rice cooker does not fit that category. Purchased for $17 from Aldi, and I dont even thinks its worth the trip back to the shop to return it. My wife tried the first batch and followed the ratio's 1:1 for washed basmati but only to discover it stuck to… Read more
the bottom slightly burnt. I gave it a re-run, and as i've cooked basmati rice for years 1 rice : 1.5 water on a stove, bring to the boil then cover, reduce to a low simmer and perfect ever time. My results with this unit, slightly burnt and stuck to the bottom. Both mine and my wife's resulted in water everywhere and rice starch over everything.
This unit simply does not turn off in time. If it came to the boil then reduced power by half, then switched off then results may be different. Really, save yourself the effort and just learn how to make rice on the stove or purchase something with a reputable name. (P.S) There is one trick i learnt that may work with this unit, allow to boil just until water holes appear in the rice then switch off to keep warm and leave for 7-10 minutes but do not remove the lid, after this time stir gently and cover to rest before serving.)
Would not recommend or buy again – Very messy rice cooker. My kitchen bench turns wet with cooking water coming through the hole in the lid... and that is with the steamer attachment on! Without it, it is much worse and bubbles all over the kitchen bench. It is not really non-stick - the rice seems to have a plastic-y texture at the bottom.
Lumina Rice Cooker – I've had this rice cooker for a number of years now cooking approx 20 kgs of rice per month and I must say that out of all the rice cookers we've owned over the years, this particular one is the most reliable.

must be lucky ? – Have used this about 2 times a week since new and it's never mucked up ... on calculations I've cooked well over 100kg of rice in this thing, so I'm really surprised to see so many negative feed backs here . So I must be lucky in more ways than one ... as I have quite a few items from aldi and alls OK reliable none
Terrible – My experience was similar to other reports, fortunately without any danger. The heating element burned out the 4th or 5th time I used the appliance. Even when it worked it was unsatisfactory. The 'non-stick' surface was anything but, and tended to flake. Cooking water bubbled through the vent and onto the bench. I have not been impressed with any… Read more
Lumina product and will not buy that brand again. Nothing The rice stuck to the pot and it failed within a few weeks of purchase.
BLOODY HOPELESS - Rice Cooker I used my rice cooker once and that was the end of the story. It… Read more
Dangerous and should be recalled – My lumina rice maker is only 6 months old and we were lucky not to have had our table catch fire from it. As other people have reported, the aluminium element inside melted, as did the plastic casing, which was so hot it melted to my tablecloth and burnt my wooden table. I warn anyone who is even thinking about purchasing one to consider whether… Read more
it is worth risking their families lives for such a dodgy product. while it worked it was good dangerous and really needs to be recalled before someones house burns down
Do not purchase – This product does not even rate one star, after one month or less of cooking rice coating lifted off pan, the steamer basket at top is tiny and steamer over cooks everything. Rice sticks to bottom of pan and then coating lifts of when you use spoon supplied to remove it from pan. Save your $ and buy another brand Coating on pan pealed, no space in top warmer for steaming, rice stuck to pan
Coating on pan plealed
No good! – Same as others, flaking now prolific, bubbling in the teflon, rice sticks to bottom and is sticker than if I do it in the microwave - looks like its back to the trusty Tupperware stack cooker (it eventually dies too but 15 years is well worth it). Again didn't keep our receipt....Aldi is usually great so was surprised by this one! good size, quick cooking and stays warm function great flaking teflon and sticky rice
No good – As all others - flaking Teflon that we have eaten - does this cause cancer? - sticks to bottom, losing 1/2 cup rice each night. No receipt and company refusing to cooperate therefore - am taking this to Fair Trading. Will use these reviews as at least anecdotal proof that there are problems with the product, and possibly health problems for US.
Teflon plealed,
Doesn't do what it's made to do – Flicks back to "warm" before the rice is even beginning to cook. Turning it back to "cook" keeps it there for a few more minutes and then back to "warm" it goes. Stood at the bench and held it on "cook" tonight only because I was desperate to get dinner on the table. Non stick started coming off after the second use and the rice has never not… Read more
stuck to the bottom and gone brown, burnt and crispy. Yuk. Aldi products are usually good for what you pay for them, but this is not acceptable. Wish I'd kept the receipt :( It warms my hands while I hold the switch down to get it to cook my rice It doesn't cook rice!
No good – I bought this rice cooker from Aldi in May 2011. Recently, used it only once, the rice cooked alright from the top, but was burnt slightly brown at the bottom, despite adding the right amount of water. I've been cooking with rice cookers for a long time. The next thing after just one use, I couldn't close the lid. When I called Aldi and told… Read more
them my problem, they asked me to contact the manufacturer. I called the manufacturer, no one answers the phone, you've got to leave a message, and they called me back the next day. When I explained to them the problem, they wanted the receipt. I did not have the receipt, but the box clearly stated the date of manufacture which is May 11 and they give you a 12 month warranty. Besides Lumina is exclusively manufactured for Aldi. The girl at Lumina refused to accept any repair/replacement. Would never buy a Lumina ever again, and would not recommend it to anyone. The look and the price Bad warranty service, poor quality product
Really really bad – Just bought the rice cooker on 5/6/12 and been using for less than a month. It has started flaking off after few days and after there is a huge flake off and I think have been eaten. The rice is always sticky to the base and need to be soaked overnight. Totally disappointed! Cheap Flaking off after few use
Terrible – Don't Buy one! Obviously a problem with the heater element that should be resolved. If you have one... Watch out! Cheap Aluminium element melted, nearly caught on fire! Should be recalled!
mine melted the alloy part but went further and melted the plastic, my tablecloth and burnt my table
Good – Overall, I can't complain about this product. I have never had to take anything back to Aldi and I am not taking this back. The non-stick has started to peel, but then I have seen that happen on my mothers name brand machine which cost over double what we paid for this. At around $30 it was and is very good value. Cooks rice well...and was cheap The non-stick coating has started to flake off the bowl

At AliExpress I found a stainless steel steamer with suitable size to replace the plastic one in my Aldi bought digital rice cooker.
