Extremely Disappointing Experience with the 2025 XT19 HRT MKIII and Appalling Customer Support I recently purchased a brand new 2025 MDC XT19 HRT MKIII, and unfortunately, the experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. of the factory.

From the very beginning, we have been plagued by significant electrical faults that should never be present in a brand new unit. The diesel heater has been completely unreliable, and the hot water system simply does not work as it should, making basic comfort impossible while off grid.

The interior build quality is equally poor. The cupboard hinges are literally falling apart, which is incredibly frustrating when you are trying to organise your gear. To make matters worse, we have now suffered a collapsed spring on the right side of the suspension. A major structural failure like this on a brand new 2025 model is completely unacceptable and raises serious safety concerns.

What makes this entire ordeal even worse is the complete lack of professionalism from the warranty and support team. When you reach out for help with these major faults, the support is unhelpful and dismissive. Furthermore, the behaviour of SZ who acts as a customer liaison or advocate, is completely unprofessional. Instead of assisting owners who are dealing with genuine manufacturing defects, he actively insults people who voice their legitimate complaints on Facebook groups.

When you invest your hard earned money into a new caravan, you expect to spend your time enjoying the outdoors, not constantly chasing repairs, dealing with major component failures, and being insulted by the company's own representatives. I cannot recommend the XT19 HRT MKIII or MDC based on my experience. The sheer number of faults shows a severe lack of quality control, and the after sales support is abysmal. Buyers beware.

Terrible quality product and terrible customer service. Went off grid first time in our XT10E anniversary model about 1.5 yrs old and the solar system wasn’t charging the battery. Reached out to MDC for help via their online form as no one was available on the weekend. No response so had to leave camping and come home. Few days later Thomas from… Read more

MDC responded with a sales pitch email. Advised him I was was seeking some help with the solar and was told to see an auto electrician…. I reminded him how new the van was and that it was the first time we were using the solar off grid. I asked if I could bring it in for someone to look at it and he then escalated the issue to their advocate Steve Zammit. It’s now been 2 weeks and 3 follow ups later I’ve heard nothing back. Worst after sales support ever. Sad thing is the Facebook group for MDC XT10’s owners offered more support and help than MDC. Unfortunately everyone has told us that the Projecta system is useless and everyone has replaced it but MDC continues to install it and offer no support. We loved our little van and now after going off grid we just want to get rid of it before anything else goes wrong as they don’t offer any support whatsoever.

The MDC SR16 looks appealing on paper, with a practical layout and a strong inclusions list for the price. On sealed roads it tows predictably when loaded correctly, which is one of the few positives we can note. Unfortunately, serious concerns arose very early in ownership, within the first 2 months we observed visible rust and poor chassis… Read more

preparation, which includes serious crows feet reaction all over our draw bar from ‘touch ups’ MDC had done pre sale, the entire draw bar looks to been coated in cheap standard paint or cold galv, which most has now flaked off and surface rust is poking through. For a caravan intended to tour Australian conditions the finish of the chassis should be met to professional standards, which it simply does not, that’s not a personal opinion but an expert professional assessment with industry professionals quotations that back our analysis.

To determine whether this was isolated to us, we inspected other galvanised chassis caravans, along with comparable models from Jayco and another Chinese-manufactured brand. None showed a similar level of early corrosion or finish issues like us. When these concerns were raised with MDC, firstly they told us no action was required, when we supplied photos to an escalation point, they andmited it was ‘missed’ then advised us to apply cold galvanising spray over rust. From our professional automotive background perspective, coating over existing corrosion does not resolve the underlying issue or provide a long-term solution, and does not resolve the already reactive paint/ which is flaking off due to original poor preparation, the job needs to be completely redone, MDC have taken no responsibility and have told us they will ‘see us in tribunal’.

Under Australian Consumer Law, products must be fit for purpose, match how they are marketed, and be reasonably durable when used in normal Australian conditions. The issues identified so early in ownership fall short of what a reasonable consumer would expect from an on-road touring caravan. While MDC has publicly stated to our Google review that this is a $55,000 caravan, not a $100,000 caravan and we need to lower our expectations, consumer guarantees apply regardless of purchase price.

MDC representatives have advised us that “off-road use” is not covered under warranty. For clarity, none of our warranty claims relate to off-road use; they relate to manufacturing and quality issues, where the van has been used in normal conditions.

Our concern is that MDC’s interpretation of off-road appears broader than what many Australians would consider normal touring conditions. Across Australia, access to public campgrounds, Hipcamps, station stays, and regional destinations commonly involves gravel, corrugations, and unsealed roads. These conditions are routine and unavoidable for general travel.

Historically, Australians accessed similar campsites with standard caravans towed behind passenger vehicles, without such conditions being treated as exceptional. Against that backdrop, it has been disappointing for normal access conditions to be raised during warranty discussions.

We have taken deliberate steps to avoid recognised off-road routes, including tracks such as the Gibb River Road, Cape York and similar environments, with substantial evidence of storage receipts, Despite this, we have been advised that our usage may be considered off-road, which does not reflect how the van has been used or where it has been taken.

When conventional motorhomes, vans, and non-off-road caravans regularly access the same locations, it highlights a difference in interpretation that, in our view, deserves clearer definition for consumers.

MDC’s slogan is “Escape with Confidence”. Based on our experience, confidence in the product’s long-term durability has been significantly undermined, the caravan isn’t a bad product, but the warranty experience and lack of communication with Brisbanes warranty team has led us to this 1 star rating, we simply cannot recommend this caravan new with the issues we have faced, you can sell the best product in the world, but if it isn’t backed by the people who sell it, ‘confidence’ disappears.

Prospective buyers should read other warranty related reviews for serious issues not just minor fix ups, and seek unsponsored long-term owner feedback before purchasing, we are doing a long term YouTube review where we will show everything in detail, covering our warranty experience, as well as going over in detail about the issues we have faced and evidence of the lengths we went to protect our asset when going actual ‘off-road’.

DO NOT BUY - Defective Products & Appalling Warranty Service I purchased a brand new MDC XT19 HRT MKIII in May 2025 for my off-grid business. This has been the worst purchasing experience of my life. MAJOR PROBLEMS: 1. Diesel Heater Incorrectly… Read more

Installed On our first trip to the Snowy Mountains, the diesel heater didn't work - we froze. AutoTerm (manufacturer) immediately identified MDC installed the pump ABOVE the heater when it must be BELOW (pumps can only draw, not push). We packed up and went home. Still not fixed.

2. Solar/Electrical System Severely Defective I paid for the top-spec system: •7 × 175W solar panels = 1,225W capacity •3 × Projecta IDC25X chargers = 75A total capacity •600Ah LiFePO4 battery bank

The Problem: Delivers only 12-37A when MDC's manual (page 22) states "up to 75A." That's 16-49% of specified performance.

The Technical Issue: After 6 weeks troubleshooting with Projecta (equipment manufacturer), they identified MDC used undersized 12V relays when 24V relays are needed. This fundamental design flaw causes voltage drops and fluctuating performance.

I paid premium price for the highest-spec system. MDC installed it with undersized components that cannot deliver specified performance. 3. MDC Made Me Fix Their Mistakes MDC instructed me to climb on the roof to fix faulty connectors they installed incorrectly, troubleshoot myself, and contact Projecta instead of honouring their warranty. 4. Warranty "Repair" Made It Worse After warranty service, the system still underperforms and now has additional problems. 5. MDC Closed My Warranty Ticket when (SZ) (MDC Manager) decided the system is "good enough" and closed my ticket. He claims I shouldn't expect more than 35A from a 75A-rated system. Every electrician and engineer I've consulted confirms it should deliver 75A if installed properly.

MDC refuses further warranty service on a 6-month-old defective caravan.

FORMAL COMPLAINTS FILED:

• NSW Fair Trading • ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission)

WARNING:

Simple MDC models might be okay. But complex, high-spec models with large solar arrays, multiple chargers, and high-capacity batteries? (Found other MDC owner groups on Facebook with many similar issues)

Installation quality is terrible, they use undersized components, and customer service is non-existent. They close warranty tickets rather than fix their mistakes.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

I spent my life savings $97.000 on this caravan for my business. It doesn't work as specified, and I've lost business income.

I've spent:

• 6+ weeks troubleshooting with Projecta (not MDC) • Hundreds of kilometres travelling for warranty service • Money on fuel and accommodation • Lost business income from cancelled seminars

FINAL THOUGHTS: These issues could have been easily fixed if MDC: • Used properly-sized components (24V relays not 12V) • Installed the heater correctly • Honoured warranty obligations • Cared about customers who spend their life savings

Instead, they dismiss warranty claims, use undersized components, and leave customers with defective premium-priced products.

The more complex and expensive the MDC system, the worse the problems and customer service.

Unfortunately, most consumers buying these caravans don't understand the electrical systems and simply accept what they get. However, there are many other owners experiencing underperforming issues. I recommend taking your caravan to a local electrician to have the system checked and confirm you're getting the correct charging input for your installed system, and the value for your money.

Buy from a manufacturer that uses proper components, installs correctly, and stands behind their products. MDC is not that company.

Australian Consumer Law protects you from defective products. If you've had similar experiences, file complaints with Fair Trading and the ACCC;

MDC OWNER'S DEFENSIVE REPLY ([Name Removed]):

Response from the owner 3 hours ago

Hi Ron, unfortunately your limited understanding of the systems and realities of solar and its relationship with irradiation levels has led you down the path you're on. As you are aware, we tested the system and found it to be performing as expected for the solar conditions (I have screen shots of the readings). The ONLY way to accurately measure performance is with an irradiation meter that accurately measures the suns energy to the solar panels.

Accuracy is important and your review has little base in fact, logic and science. You are likely aware by now that your electronics are going to be evaluated by the supplier. Just because there are 3 x 25amp solar chargers, doesn't automatically mean you will get 75amps all day every day. Irradiation is dependent on latitude, the suns azimuth and atmospheric conditions as well as cloud cover.

Regarding your complaint about travelling to have your concerns looked at, mate you live in Cooma!

Relays.. Mate they are 12-24 volt, solar input from the panels exceeds 12 volt as it's over 20 volts. This is what I mean about your lack of understanding regarding the systems and functions. The system was designed in conjunction with the supplier, tested and approved. Ignorance is not an acceptable excuse for a defamatory post so please keep that in mind and reconsider what you have stated here claiming to be fact.

As MDC has used diversionary tactics in their response to my review on Google reviews, and that a full, detailed rebuttal with evidence can be found by searching for your experience online or: https://www.facebook.com/groups/794612446716076

MY FINAL RESPONSE TO MDC [Name Removed]:

Thank you for your response, [Name Removed]. I appreciate the opportunity to clarify the facts for potential buyers reading this exchange.

REGARDING TESTING CONDITIONS:

You claim I have a "limited understanding" of solar irradiation. Let me be clear: ALL performance measurements I reported (12-37A) were taken under OPTIMAL conditions: • Full sun (no clouds) • Midday (maximum solar elevation) • Summer months (maximum irradiation) • Panels clean and unobstructed • Battery state of charge allowing maximum acceptance

I am fully aware that solar performance varies with time of day, weather, and seasonal conditions. That's precisely why I tested under optimal conditions - to establish the system's MAXIMUM capability.

REGARDING QUALIFIED ASSESSMENT:

You suggest I lack technical understanding. In fact: • I consulted multiple qualified electrical engineers • I worked with Projecta (your equipment supplier) for 6+ weeks • Projecta identified the undersized relay issue • Independent electricians confirmed the system should deliver significantly higher performance under optimal conditions

Your claim that "the system was designed in conjunction with the supplier, tested and approved" is contradicted by Projecta's own assessment that other installation factors may be undersized or inappropriate for the application.

REGARDING YOUR MANUAL'S SPECIFICATION:

Your owner's manual (page 22) states the system can achieve "up to 75A." Under optimal conditions, my system delivers 12-37A maximum. That's 16-49% of your published specification.

If your manual is incorrect and the system cannot achieve 75A under ANY conditions, that's a violation of Australian Consumer Law Section 29 (false or misleading representations).

If the system CAN achieve 75A but mine cannot due to installation or component issues, that's a violation of ACL Sections 54, 55, and 56 (acceptable quality, fit for purpose, match description). Either way, there's an ACL violation.

REGARDING THE RELAY ISSUE:

You claim the relays are "12-24 volt" and therefore adequate because "solar input from the panels exceeds 12 volt as it's over 20 volts."

This demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue. The problem isn't the INPUT voltage to the relays - it's the LOAD capacity. Projecta (your supplier) identified that 12V-rated relays could be undersized for the current load this system generates, and 24V-rated relays could handle the load more effectively.

This is basic electrical engineering: relay voltage rating relates to switching capacity and load handling, not just input voltage compatibility.

REGARDING "DEFAMATION":

You claim my review is "defamatory" and has "little base in fact, logic and science."

Everything in my review is factual and documented: • Diesel heater pump installed above heater (confirmed by AutoTerm) • System delivers 12-37A under optimal conditions (measured, documented) • Your manual states "up to 75A" (page 22, your own publication) • Projecta identified undersized relays (documented in our communications) • You closed my warranty ticket (documented) • I filed Fair Trading and ACCC complaints (public record)

These are facts, not defamation. Australian consumer law protects honest reviews based on genuine experience.

REGARDING TRAVELLING FROM COOMA:

You dismiss my complaint about travelling for warranty service with "mate you live in Cooma!"

Cooma to your facility is approximately 1150km round trip. For multiple warranty visits for a brand new caravan with defects that should have been caught before delivery, this is a legitimate complaint about the cost and inconvenience of seeking warranty service for problems that shouldn't exist.

REGARDING YOUR SCREENSHOTS:

You mention having "screenshots of the readings" showing the system "performing as expected for the solar conditions."

I invite you to share those screenshots publicly in this thread, along with: • Time of day • Date (solar elevation angle) • Weather conditions • Irradiation meter readings • Battery state of charge • System voltage and current readings

Let's allow potential buyers to see the data and make their own assessment.

FINAL POINT: You claim the system was "designed in conjunction with the supplier, tested and approved."

If that's true, why did Projecta (your supplier) identify several potential issues when I consulted them? Why did they suggest 24V relays may be more appropriate? And why did they offer a solution to bring the van to their Melbourne facility for a proper repair?

Either your "design in conjunction with supplier" claim is inaccurate, or Projecta has changed their position after seeing real-world performance data.

I stand by every statement in my review. Everything is factual, documented, and based on professional assessments from qualified electrical engineers and your own equipment supplier.

Potential buyers can now read both sides and make their own informed decisions.

If you've had similar experiences with MDC, please share your story. Australian Consumer Law exists to protect us from defective products and false representations.

Fair Trading: 13 32 20 ACCC: accc.gov.au/contact-us

recogonised it is for backing into a spot it is, not for rear camera view while doing 95km on the highway, as firstly the bluetooth does cut in and out and the angle of the camera just shows about 3 metres behind not 50 metres down the road. But to be honest I am sure a better quality rear camera is out there somewhere they could replace their current model with. Only wish is that they had a 11FT version of the XT10E so that the cafe lounge section was longer for a wider table and a 6ft teenager can sleep there.

He then checked the projector, pulled the table apart and we found that the circuit breaker was tripped so it wasnt showing on the display. Room for improvement – Very happy with Forte SR11, although I contacted 1300 number with query on my 3 week old van and was advised to talk to a Caravan Repairer. Suggestion for improvement .... Insulation pads on inside of fridge (slide) compartment and sail track on outside to keep sun off wall adjacent to fridge compartment to make any fridge work far more efficiently. Very small cost to manufacturing.

Forbes 12+ Van – Milt was a great asset in the purchase of our van, helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Our van was ready before its due date, which was impressive. After one trip in it we already love it. Thanks Milt and MDC, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to others. Show details ·  1

Unable to contact Senior Management of Market Direct Company and lack of Customer Service – Frustrating Customer Service Experience: Lack of Communication and Disinterest in Daily Operations I recently had a disappointing customer service experience with the Perth office of a company, and I would like to share my review to highlight the issues I encountered. From the moment my query was handed over to the Perth office, there was a clear… Read more

lack of response to emails and phone calls. Furthermore, I was unable to obtain contact details of senior management, indicating disinterest in addressing customer concerns. It seemed evident that the company lacked key performance indicators (KPIs) for the timely delivery of caravans, which only added to my frustration.

Lack of Response and Communication: Upon my inquiry being redirected to the Perth office, I found it incredibly challenging to elicit any response from them. Multiple emails and phone calls went unanswered, leaving me feeling neglected and unheard as a customer. This lack of communication not only delayed the resolution of my concerns but also caused unnecessary frustration and uncertainty.

Difficulty in Reaching Senior Management: To escalate my concerns, I attempted to obtain the contact details of senior management within the company. However, my efforts proved futile as their Head office in Queensland provided no means of reaching higher-level executives. This lack of transparency and accessibility suggests a disconnection between the senior management and the daily operations of the company. It is concerning when a company's leadership fails to acknowledge and address customer issues promptly.

Absence of KPIs for Delivery: Another glaring issue that became apparent throughout this customer service experience was the absence of clear KPIs for the delivery of caravans or any indication that timely delivery was a priority for the company. This lack of accountability and performance metrics raises questions about the company's commitment to meeting customer expectations. As a customer, I expect a company to have effective systems in place to track and ensure the timely delivery of products or services.

Conclusion: My experience with the Perth office of this company was marred by a range of customer service issues. The lack of response to emails and phone calls, coupled with the inability to reach senior management, pointed to a disinterest in addressing customer concerns. Furthermore, the absence of KPIs for the delivery of caravans suggested a lack of accountability and efficiency within the company's operations. As customers, we deserve better service and more efficient communication channels. It is my hope that this review serves as constructive feedback for the company to improve its customer service standards and overall operations.
