The old Maytag's like mine are great, I think someone else owns them now or their machines are not as good. I still buy them to use throughout a retirement community and we have tried every brand out there. Will never buy a front load, too expensive to repair and they don't clean as well.

Residue on clothes – I am not happy with the top loading machine. Would like to take it to tip. Clothing comes out with a residue left marking the clothing. Needs hand washing to get rid of it. Samsung previously, which is listed on this site and has been discontinued (can understand why too, it was terrible.) Is the Maytag noisy? YES - it roars! Is it big and unattractive? YES! Is it missing the bells and whistles of new washing machines? YES! Does it wash clothes properly? YES! YES! YES! That is all I ask for - a sturdy, sensible, no-nonsense machine that does what it's supposed to do - wash clothes really, really well.

Excellent product! – WE have owned a Maytag Top Loader for 10+yrs, & have loved this machine. The main reason for viewing this website was to make sure we could still purchase a Maytag here in Australia, if & when the time is necessary! I love it! best value machine ever! run perfectly for 12 years- easy to repair. (wife hates it) – simple machine that just works. does it wash clothes well? yes, really well.

does it clunk and walk around the room? it did for about 12 months.- not anymore.

The washing machine started to walk around the room about a year ago, I searched online, (the parts manual is on the maytag website), there are you-tube videos on how to replace a worn snubber ring (Whirlpool part #21002026 - $12 from amazon), (i replaced the springs at the same time just in case they had stretched a bit (@$15 it was probably $15 i didn't need to spend but whatever)...It was an easy repair which I did myself and has made the machine as good as new again.

My wife hates that it has lasted so long because all her friends have front loaders and she thought she was in with a chance to get one too. (one friend has had 3 front loaders in the time we have had this washer- what does that tell you?)

Disappointment – I have a front loader, bought in 2009, washes well, but the frame work has rusted out, also don't like the 1 minute delay before you can open the machine after the wash has finished or to add more clothing, also the rubber around the door has gone black even though I always wipe it & leave the door open till the next wash. Biggest disappointment – We have tolerated this machine for way too long, we were talked into the purchase by the salesperson at the store over another brand. Its been very noisy, clunky, gets off balance easily, is rough on the clothes - I use delicate cycle on most instead of regular and had to allow for more pre-soak time, Excited that today, gone and bought a replacement! And not ever looking at this brand for whitegoods again.

Serviceman also showed me how to do a "Service Wash" - fill it right up with very hot water, then add another bucket of very hot water, put in 2 cups of Baking Soda and run it through a full cycle. This tends to keep the smell at bay if done every 3 montsh or so, but I stiil have to dismantle it every 12 months and clean it properly by hand. Yes mine started to walk all over the laundry at about 2 1/2 years old. Found out this is caused by a worn out "snubber". They cost a fortune to buy in Australia but I bought several from the US very cheaply. Snubber is tedious to replace, but fixed the out of balance completely. Machine is now 3 1/2 years old. It still washes well and I now know its weak points so I do those regular service washes and lint cleans. Wouldn't ever buy another Maytag though (if the brand name is still used). Agricultural - no computers or geeky features. Maytag brand name. Its not a Maytag, its made by Whirlpool who bought Maytag when they went broke. Has major lint problem

Over 16 years old and still going – My Maytag was purchased in 2000 and still going. No services, no breakdowns. The last few months it has started to walk around the laundry and makes the loudest clunking sound. Kids take turns to sit on the machine during spin. It's very loud, and I agree that it has a lint problem, but overall a very stable machine. Perfect for Families – I used to have a small front loader washer, and was doing 3 washes a day for my family. Having a big top loader means I only need to do one load a day, and if I forget anything I can add it while the wash is going. Great oversize capacity. Love this washer!

Terrible – Extremely disappointing. Only three years old and it won't spin out. I can't even get a repairman in my area to attempt to repair it. "They won't touch it." Paid a lot of money for the Maytag name believing I would get an excellent quality product that would last the distance. Based on my experience, I couldn't recommend the product.

Nothing but problems – First repair done 2 months after purchase. Machine would not spin out, terrible burning smell. 4 year after purchase (extended warranty) same again now machine not agitating during wash cycle as well. Gear box replaced with the service man stating "I've never known this to happen". The repair would have cost me $700.

Today 6 years on again another gear box. Extended warranty will expire in 3 months. Machine taken away for repair, will keep you updated.

Not the case. Will buy a F/P again as soon as this one dies. Soon I hope! Hasn't broken down (as such) in 5 years use, unlike other reviews I've seen... time on the weekend to determine why the laundry is awash disclosed that the machine is 4 years older than the eight years since we purchased it (ostensibly new) off Harvey Norman (Auburn, NSW). This explained he went on to say why the seal at the drum base had perished, leakage was long term (unnoticed by us), rust had perforated the cabinet, rusted the cabinet hinges and both springs (thus accounting for it jumping all over the place) and well beyond economical repair. A very expensive folly given we relied on the representations of the vendor, on anecdotal approval (and its price) that Maytag quality was unparalleled. Speed Queen is too expensive - and who knows?.... So a cheaper brand with an extended warranty is our solution.

Terrible – Can't get past the lint. Need to sell machine as I can't have my clothes in this state any longer. Seems to keep going, unfortunately as it can't wash very well Extreme lint problem. Terrible – This is the worst and most costly appliance I have ever owned. THe machine broke down in the firt week. The bearings are now gone and I have been told not to waste my time with a costly repair. I will never purchase a Maytag again. working the other day and I was happy as I was not getting this HEAP OF CRAP fixed again Noisy, very unbalanced even on a gentle spin cycle, far worse on normal, parts hard to source, repairs expensive, clothes covered in lint, no lint filter, did I mention noisy, well I should add that the machine is BLOODY NOISY, we'd often comment that it was taking off...

Terrible – Bought this product specifically for the Maytag 'good name'. Not worth spending the money to get it fixed. I'm extremely disgusted that it only lasted 5 years as my previous 2 washing machines (cheaper brands) had each lasted 10 years! Will never touch another Maytag product and will never recommend same. It worked well for the first 5 years. Gearbox died after 5 years. Also tended to wander all over the laundry floor during spin cycle.

ceased, after writing to Maytage they eventually honoured an agreement to pay for the motor I had to pay for the labour. Machine then started blow its hoses off, by the time I had owned the machine for 18months I went and bought a Whirlpool front loader. I have now had this for 6 years and had no problem. The maytag went out into the shed and washes dog bedding, that is all the machine is good for. I also work in the community for services and they have Maytag washing machines which also have broken down 3 times in less than 12 months. Dont ever buy one they are bad. Maytag, now Whirlpool, obviously not concerned about protecting name /reputation. Interesting that the retailer no longer stocks Maytag. clean the clothes, took 2 hours to do a cycle and was noisy. Ended up getting a F & P GW712 see my review. It was heavy duty. Washed minimum three loads a day for 6 years. Gears were stripped after 6 years. $1500+ to repair! Spin often stopped as it was out of kilter. Noisy. Shook the whole house (which is on piers) on final spin.

purchase. Am going to get rid of it as soon as I can afford it and going to take it straight to the dump and watch it get squashed and flattened. Will the best thing for it. Nothing at all. I hate everything about it. Everything comes out covered in lint which is obviously a design flaw as everyone else complains about it. Also black slimey gunk covered my whites yesterday. So major clean out (disgusting smelly stuff). Just had to move the machine for laundry reno and found rust all along the back on the bottom. Had noticed some on the front and side at the top, but worse than what I thought. Obviously not happy as the machine is just 5 years old. this it makes a great security feature. Numerous costly repairs! I purchased this machine on recommendation from the sales rep that I would "get a good 15 years with no problems". How wrong he was, spin cycle has stopped a few times, bearings have gone and numerous other problems. sledge hammer as it is not even worth giving away. Have emailed, telephoned and even sent photos to WHIRLPOOL who now OWN Maytag but not response. Even when I telephoned for follow up to the photos of the SLIMED clothing I sent they (the WHIRLPOOL ppl) said that my correspondence was being investigated. That was last year (2008). dark clothes come out looking like they are covered in lint - the clothes brush is getting a real workout. My hand washing has increased significantly which wasn't my intention when I invested considerable $$'s in this product.

Excellent – absolutely fabulous everything! gets everything really clean and fluffy, solid, looks good, has nice knobs that turn instead of the horrible pressure pads. love the barrel, have had no trouble with lint! nothing ps dont put tissues in!!derrr!

Terrible – The worst washing machine ever invented. I would NEVER BUY MAYTAG AGAIN. The back up assistance has been very poor. No one from Maytag wants to know. The Maytag washing machine is the WORST appliance I have ever ever owned. It shakes violently even with the smallest of loads. It walks so much that it tries to get out of our laundry. We have had it serviced but that was a waste of time and money.

Terrible – Not a machine I would recommend, I feel so disappointed, I was under the impression I was buying "the rolls royce of washing machines" how wrong was I. Great choice of water levals LINT LINT and more lint. Still waiting for automatic lint filter in kick in....I think they forgot to put one in!!!!!!
