Miele W5741 breakdown – This model has served me well over 10 years and has performed well considering its use. This month the water path control valve died (repair cost $800 installed). Considered a crucial component when it comes to washing machine, a product life of 10 years does not sound like Miele placed a large emphasis on developing this component for the… Read more

expected 20 yr life stated on their web site. I am reluctant to purchase another Miele product based on false expectations. Other than the frame of the machine, what part is guaranteed for 20yrs. Not happy.

Miele W5741 Washing Machine Failed – I purchased the W5741 in 2013 (not installed and used until May 2014) for around $2000.00 having purchased 4 miele appliances for my new build, on the basis of Miele's brand solid reputation and apparent longevity. Yesterday, the washer died (just shy of over 9 years old) due to most likely electronic failure of the power board which I read in… Read more

the reviews appears to be a major issue with this model. The washing machine wont light up, despite having less than average usage during its life.

Now facing the prospect of an expensive repair bill or buying a new washer, and time without being able to wash clothes. A lot of money for something that obviously has not lived up to its brand reputation, despite the claim of 20 years of testing! Not acceptable.

I have been through a expensive electronic repair a few years ago on my MIele dishwasher, whereby Miele were not prepared to cover the repair costs, and I'm not prepared to pay expensive repair costs again.

I messaged Miele yesterday but was only sent links to 'trouble fault'!

Will contact customer support today, and requesting for Miele's assistance to repair my washing machine.

W 5741 MIELIE WASHING MACHINE – It seems that the the front control boards are a Common Fault going by all the reviews I have read. I purchased the W5741 in December 2011 . A perfect washer – Looks like new even after 8 years. It did have a glitch with the main board that was fixed by a local electronics repair guy for about $220, compare to a new $500 board, it was not a biggie. My mate bought a different brand washer 3 years ago and had the board failed on him too, that I consider a bummer. So, dont expect new appliances to last long nowadays.

Excellent washing machine until electronics failed – My lovely W5741 owned for 8 years never missed a beat until 2 weeks ago it simply died mid-cycle. There is no power and it cannot be powered on. A Miele technician arrived (actually they outsourced the work to Sydney Appliance Service) to confirm the Power/Control Unit had failed and the part would need to be ordered. Total cost $177 but still… Read more

with non-working machine. The price of the replacement part is $538 and no discount was offered on the part. Earlier one of the LED's stopped working on the control board but I can live with that as I still know what program I'm on. Miele support were sympathetic and helpful advising a rebate of service cost was possible on purchasing new machine. I'm debating whether to go in for a new Miele or purchase the PCU part as a hate to see a still lovely machine go to landfill for the sake of a piece of electronics. I would definitely recommend the Miele washing machine but budget for an 8 year lifetime. I acknowledge that electronics may not be specific to Miele brand.

Issue free until the 9-10 year circuit failure – We loved our W5741, it's been a reliable work horse and operated without a blip for 10 years. It's exterior and interior drum look brand new even after 10 years in a household with three boys. Its achilles was the logic board, long lead time for servicing and cost of repair. Miele have done a great job on the mechanical engineering side, no… Read more

doubt the physical components have been stress tested to last 20+ years. However, that circuit board of electronics is the weakness. Even though I have a Miele dishwasher, dryer, fridge and freezer I've decided to give a German made Bosch front loader a try and save nearly $1000 in the process. Will see how I go in 10 years...

Great when it worked – We bought the w5471 about 14 years ago in Melbourne, 3 moves later to the mid north coast and all of a sudden our washing machine decided to pack it in.. turn on. Nothing ,Dead, not even a glow. So after a bit of research on how to delve into the innards I was able to check power in, the rf/emf filter all good. Next the control board located within the machine. Dead. Spoke to a local repair agent, response from them was good luck, better off buying a new machine as Miele have made it uneconomical to repair, and getting parts is like finding rocking horse deodorant (sanitised wording). Unable to find any documentation re spares manual, repair manual let alone a schematic diagram. The unit was used by 2 guys, washed 3 loads once a week for 11 years, didnt even break it in.. Just one part to fix it but.... Miele, can I have the schematics to the machine, not just wiring but to board level, id love to fix it and donate to a needing family instead of landfill Phil & Wayne

Edit, found www.modulerepair.com.au have sent board for repair, will advise on outcome. Costing $35 (if unrepairable) through $261 (if standard faults) or more if non standard fault. Fingers crossed

Unreliable, 2 control boards failed – Unreliable, have had a Miele W5741 for about 9 years and as with other reviews the control board failed a year out of the original warranty. Miele agreed to reduce the cost of the replacement but was still expensive for a ‘quality’ machine. Now, the second control board has also failed after about 4 years.

for this repair or part in Australia. We cannot be without a washing machine in our household. To be left in the dark means that I will need to fork out emergency money to swap out the DEAD washing machine with another. Had Miele contacted me with some indication of when/how etc regarding a repair or replacement, then I could possibly make some short term arrangements.

My beautiful W5741 has died – Never missed a wash, did have a drainage problem which was solved by technician who came to fix my Miele dishwasher, he said that it did however have a problem with the arm or something around the drum, sorry can’t remember the technique name and that it was destroying itself but he could replace if under a certain age, 10 years, or fix for $1300… Read more

plus costs, trouble is I didn’t register it and can’t find the receipt, also bought a dryer at the same time, anyhow it has now stoped, can’t move the drum, so will just have to bit the bullet and buy another one, next problem we live out of town, no family to help move the old one out or install a new one, husband a man who could do everything is now disabled after a stroke. The other issue is with the Miele is expensive to fix, so as much as I love my Miele appliances I might have to buy another brand.

Great support behind the Miele Brand – Having read some other people's experiences I thought it worth sharing our experience. A total disappointment – It seem like these machines has got a pre-programmed end of life date. Our machine died at exactly 9 years. The symptoms are as described by all other posters here. they failed. Their online service booking system didn't work, called Miele waited for at least a hour, once got through, the earliest that they could get anyone out to look at the machine is 2 weeks. In this days and age, expecting their customer to wait for 2 weeks for a service is ludicrous. The alternative is to buy a new machine at the current retail price, with roughly a week of delivery. Thanks but no thanks! I was able to get a comparable machine, at a much low price, and next day delivery!.

For a brand that marketed itself as the leader in their field and great customer service - it has failed miserably.

Disappointing Given The Price and Reputation – It seems like the circuit board blowing out issue is a common one with this machine. When working, the washing machine is fantastic, however something this expensive needs to last longer, or at the very least be more affordable to repair, especially given the price of similar, highly regarded German-made washing machines. $1900 Lasted 9 yrs not 20 as claimed – We bought two Miele front loading machines 9 yrs ago. So we have have only technically used the W 5741 half as much as a normal family would use it. like stated elsewhere, are impossible to get through to (their online chat Support is ridiculous...they know nothing at all that can help - just refer you to troubleshoot which is already online!). I contacted our trustworthy appliance service centre, who was able to test it. The Control Board had a blown off part, which the fuse is supposed to blow to prevent (fuse is cheap to repair). So knowing Control Board's are around $600, which is throwing good money after bad, also a long wait for the part, I will be buying a Bosch Washing Machine now, which seem to have a good review, and our Bosch Dishwasher has been great. If it only lasts 10 years, at least it is half the price I paid for the Miele. When it was 4 years old the glass shattered (had not been damaged, slammed or anything - just broke spontaneously), and Miele had tried to tell me that the glass was cosmetic, and would not cover it under our extended warranty! I argued that the machine could not be used without the glass, and won. That was not a fun experience dealing with Miele either. The Miele washed well when I had it, but then so did my LG that lasted 11 years before it. If they say tested to 20 years, then the warranty should cover it for 20 years - not 2! Not happy Miele.

W 5741 Front Load Washing Machine – Purchased on 10/06/2012 from Harvey Norman on the advice that these Miele Machines where engineered to last 20 years . Product initially registered with Miele but a change of email address and provider by means unable to access on Miele site. Email sent to Miele asking for advice but they have not bothered to acknowledge. Very disappointing as this is only our 3rd washing machine in 42 years and the Miele has been the shortest survivor. Both other machines - top loader Whirlpool and Fisher and Paykel where retired to garage duties and still operating. Guess the 20 year expectancy due to engineering applies more to them than Miele as the Miele has been the most lightly used machine due to the kids leaving home . Very disappointing given the $2000 purchase price, more than double the price of other machines we could have chosen

Miele W5741 - Another repair required !! – Miele W5741 bought for around $2000 in 2013 from Harvey Norman. We were told it would last 20 years and was worth the extra money. the comments on this site. So now on spin cycle it is making a loud noise (really loud) which we believe is the bearings or spider shaft. The springs feel OK and the shocks feel OK. We can generate the knocking noise by moving the bowl by hand - which may indicate the bearings may be the cause. This also seems to be a common issue with Miele machines. We have stopped using the machine now as the noise is too much. I rang Miele and spent 40 mins waiting on the phone only to finally have the call drop out. I used the call feed back email or text they sent after the call and mentioned this but no further contact from Miele. Looking at the booking system the wait time for a technician is around 2 weeks. This makes is really hard to justify or even undertake a repair given we have a young family and we wash clothes many times per week. We have the matching Miele T 8823 C dryer and stacker kit. We have supported Miele by 2 very large purchases and one repair and countless recommendations. We will never purchase Miele products ever again. We will not recommend their products again. We are very disappointed with Miele and their products and indeed customer/after sales level of service. Enough is enough for us.

So much for superior German engineering. Always hear how great Miele are, BUT to spend so much to have it last this long - is not right. I believe your advertising should be changed as it is ( in my belief ) misleading as it suggests that the machine has been tested for 20 YEARS and as such will last for 20 years. As so many reviews state the circuit goes after 6,7 or 8 years. I am forwarding this onto Miele. I am happy with the build quality of the machine, extremely sturdy.

Unfortunately 2 weeks before Christmas, our investment was fried. No power. Had a technician come have a look and found the circuit board to be the culprit, $850 to have it replaced. His fee was only $115. Dumbfounded as my laptop's mother board is cheaper to replace and is capable of so much more.

I'm starting to find it hard to justify fixing it given it'll cost almost a 1/3 of what we originally paid. Surely electronics should be lasting longer than the mechanics? I suspect, we'll be looking at an alternative brand given the experience. Seems so wasteful to just throw out goods because the cost of repairs are more than purchasing another - guess that's how it is in a disposable industry.
