Well i thought that I would do a review of my Miele front loader after having it now for just over ten years, believing it would last for 15-20 years before giving any issues! i have just replaced the drum stabilizer bars then the pump went a week after, now it won't spin dry after a cycled wash has completed, now have to put onto spin/drain… Read more
setting separately to get the wash finished. I did the work myself to save $$$ This machine cost 3k so when you work out the economics is it really worth the 3k ?
Mine just died after 12 years didn't expect that. The spider arm bearing couldn't handle it not happy also expected longer from German made to expensive the labour. I will try find another one to use for parts . Anyone done this or have a machine? Show details · 1
sub-par electronics don't last the distance – expensive machine - 9yrs of good use but now there's a burnt part on the main board - no electrical storm, no surges and always protected with an expensive surge protector - supposed to last 20 years - yeh right, the electronics are sub par the part shown (only able to be sourced from China) actually shorts across the terminals and sets off a… Read more
quick flash when initially powered up from the mains supply, otherwise the machine is dead (died during a wash) - this is also a fire risk
disappointment is an understatement at this level of spend when they got in touch kept on repeating the 2 year manufacturer's warranty, but totally silent on statutory warranty under the ACL - distributors/agents don't like inconvenient truth and they are lucky it is likely just a bit too old to have a go, otherwise I wouldn't blink at doing it
help from Miele? forget that, won't even advise on whether the burnt part is typical - want us to pay the call-out fee for their prematurely failed product just to tell us the board has a fault which any blind person can see
of course, enticement for further investment in their over-priced short-living product abounds I suggest other Made in Germany products at half the price are much better value and likely no less reliable
sour taste, won't be duped again by this company and never to be repeated
[edit] on reading the reviews below it seems my experience of sub-par electronics is repeated time and again - when Miele spoke to me they repeated several times that the machine (and by inference the main board) is 'Made in Germany' - it's all spin as parts are supplied to manufacturers from all over the world and they couldn't explain why the smoking-gun failed part could only be sourced in China - they also don't seem to (or don't want to) understand that consumer law doesn't require something to be 100% made in the country to carry the 'Made In' tag - I suspect the board is actually made in China because it is not marked. On a quick google only 51% of parts 'should' come from Germany, so there's your ChiGerman machine for you, but Miele won't tell you that, only smoke and mirrors - have left my rating but it really should be 1 star for not telling the consumer there's almost certainly some Chinese parts in these machines: =>>> https://www.deutschland.de/en/topic/business/made-in-germany-where-it-comes-from-and-what-it-means
"Manufacturers themselves decide whether to label their product in this way. However, German courts have ruled that products with this label must at least be assembled in Germany. And more than half of the parts used should also come from Germany."
[update] got the failed part replaced and the machine is up and running but won't reliably complete a cycle - tried and failed for small $$$, time to move on
in fairness, Miele have reached out, communicated respectfully and appreciated the circumstance we have come to an acceptable arrangement on a replacement machine - kudos where due, but still not happy to give upon a top of the line machine in its day, still not surpassed today
10 Perfect years – As a family of 4 we have had exceptional use out of this machine. I have absolutely loved my miele washing machine although it has now given up the ghost after an electrical storm. Looking forward to replacing it and having at least another good 10 years. Thanks Miele. Show details
Very disappointed – I have been using this machine for a number of years and have loved it, however, over the past couple months we have had consistent issues. Most recently the machine has completely stopped working. When I try to run a cycle about 2 minutes in I get a message that says ‘Fault Water intake Open stopcock’. saturated with water and covered in soap and then stays that way. Thankfully I have family nearby who have been able to help otherwise I’d have ruined a whole load of clothes.
I have had a technician visit who said I needed a new control board as there is an electrical fault in the machine. I have since tried to run a cycle one more time just to be sure and water now leaks out the front of the door. This is so disappointing! Prior to this I loved this machine and it washed well.
What a pity this model has been discontinued – I use my W5965 daily, for a mixed wash. I love it and the steam feature is fantastic for shirts, refreshing items out of a suitcase or seasonal storage, or just pre ironing. Clothes are clean, never damaged, and on variable spin speed ( I routinely use 1600 rpm) , they come out pretty dry. I would love another W5965 for my country property, where… Read more
my much older Miele washer ( bought second hand, 20 years old and still doing a great job) , does not have the steam function. Alas the model is discontinued and I cannot find a second hand one in the market. I guess no one sells a good machine.
Miele W 5965 Washing Machine - Our machine is a dud! – After using Miele products in the past and being very happy with them, we purchased this model. issues started after 12 months (I didn't realise we had a 2 year warranty) and have just been continual. Their customer service has been quite good, but that doesn't help you when you're trying to use a lemon.
Disappointed but resolved in the end – We have had this machine since 2013 and now need to replace it because of second faulty motherboard in which the first one was smoking through the top of the machine! The first repair was under extended warranty (just) and the machine has never been the same since. Won't buy another – Everytime I wash my sheets, the washing powder doesn't dissolve no matter how little detergent I put in it or even when I wash immediately after the load with no detergent. I have tried liquid and powder. I don't overload it (usually it says 75%). So the sheets come out with white marks all over them. Would never buy another one.

Very happy – Works well and has moved to a new home with out misshape. I like that it is quiet and takes a large wash. you can get a lot of water out of the cloths which is excellent for using a dryer. Love the light inside. Some of the features I have not used. lots of options. Show details
This is the Dux nuts of washing machines – This is by far the best washing machine I've ever owned with its large 8kg capacity I can keep up with my family of four. I love that it has a quick cycle and a hygienic cycle but still offers a long cycle for extra dirty loads. Every wash comes out clean and not to creased. Easy to operate, the kids can put on a load and it's silent. Would definitely recommend front loader over top load, clothes are never damaged and don't fade as fast. Show details
Excellent washer – This is a brilliant , reliable washing machine. We had no need to call for service in the last 2 years we had it.It has many programs to choose from including short 20 and 30 minute ones. It washes clothes really well even on the short programs. It is gentle on the clothes and very quiet however it has a "quiet mode" which I have not had to use. … Read more
This machine is my best helper in the house,it is exceptionally easy to use and does the job perfectly every time whether it is a large piece of blanket, heavy towels or some delicate items. I love the "trainer"mode which allows washing shoes (Runners, canvas shoes,) on a special program (no damage to the netted running shoes). No more scrubbing above the laundry sink! It also has a "freshening up" 10 minute program which just uses steam to freshen up clothing. Brilliant! Thoroughly recommend this machine to any families!
A great washing machine – We are very pleased with the performance of our Miele washing machine. It provides an efficient washing action whilst giving economy in water and electricity use . The clothes look cleaner and need less time to dry on the line after the spin cycle has finished. Would recommend the Miele washing machine to anyone

Was pretty happy until I had a problem and Miele couldn't give a damn – I bought my Miele washing machine with excitement thinking I was buying the best in the market. bit of rubber from the front bit has broken off. I was a little surprised seeing I've paid $2500 for this machine and have had it less then 6 months that this has happened. Since I've had a washing machine it's always been a front loader as my parents have had one so I've had front loaders for many years. So I ring Miele, thinking that it would all be ok and under warranty, well to my surprise she tells me it's not under warranty and I have to pay $90 for the rubber seal plus $160 for a person to come and install it (that's for the first 30mins by the way) ??? I'm like are you kidding? I've just forked out $2500 for your "quality assured" washing machine and you want me to pay another $250 because the rubber you use in your machine is faulty and flimsy? My last front loader which cost me $650 and I had for about 15 years never cost me anything more because I never had a problem with it. The rubber didn't break off! And I'm not using my Miele machine any differently. I am extremely disappointed with Miele. I was thinking when I was to build my new house soon that I would get all Miele products installed but I will now reconsider as I haven't even had the washing machine for 6 months and already it's failed me. What a joke. And shame on me for thinking Miele was an exceptional brand of machinery, which it clearly is not. Now what am I supposed to do? I have three children under five who go through clothes like they're going out of fashion and I have no machine I can use till I pay Miele this money then have to wait who knows how long for a service person to come. Very and extremely unhappy. Thanks Miele.

Disappointed: Small, neat holes appear on T-shirts! – I was divided between the Asko and the Miele with the Steam Function. Having used the Miele for 6 months now, I do about 2 loads every few days, sometimes 4 loads on a sunny day of the weekend. The average load is 75%. I have found that : 1. The Steam Function is really Not necessary unless you wash a LOT of shirts on their own cycle. I… Read more
understood it also refreshed (odors & dust) difficult to wash items, clean clothes from a suitcase etc but it just damps them down.. Waste of money in my case.
2. The Cottons programme, which would be the most useful as it takes the full 8kg load and allows you to choose the max. temperature range and spin speed, puts SMALL HOLES into t-shirt material (old and brand new!), and TEARS the odd towel. It features the Intensive "A" Wash Rhythm, so I avoid it and search for an alternative programme (from Normal "B" to Hand Wash "F" wash rhythm). However, spin cycle is then restricted, depending on programme choice!
I've called service regarding the rough treatment, and the young woman was understanding, but they will only send someone with the proviso that I pay a few hundred dollars IF it's not a fault of the machine. It's still under warranty. I'm not happy with the lack of information on why holes happen on the Cottons cycle, (I've read other similar reviews so am not alone), and that I may have to pay to find out.
3. The Doona cycle was an important extra, however, my Queen size down doona OVERLOADED the machine, so that feature is also useless to me!!
4. The Asko had a lovely wide and thin front opening, without a rubber lining that collects water and catches clothes, plus my sister and a friend both love theirs and highly recommend it. In hindsight, I wish I'd bought it instead.
Fantastic, quality built product – It's your classic story - after 23 years using my solid, quality built Gorenje Pacific washing machine (amazingly still going, but behind the times with programme choices, power/water saving, etc) it was time to upgrade. par with my quality old machine.
I ended up at the Miele showroom at the same time as the W1 releases. These new models are very stylish and the fragrance dos on the dryer really draws you in with its aroma.
However, being a practical woman, I had to look beyond the emotive aspect and look at the functionality of Miele's entire washing machine range.
I was immediately attracted to the 'steam care' function for my husband's shirts. This lead me to a comparison of the top W1 machine WKR 770 WPS and the W 5965 WPS Aus (the older run out model), as they each have steam care.
As a general rule, I conduct washes for whites, darks, cottons, delicates, hygiene, sportswear and shirts. All of Miele's current washers have these programmes.
The main difference with the W1 model is that it has the twin dos and auto dos (i.e. automatic detergent dispensing), while you have to manually dispense detergents in the W 5965. In saying that, the W 5965 does have load size detection and detergent dosing recommendation.
The top W1 model has a 4 line display and the W 5965 has a 3 line display.
The price comparison = WKR770 WPS retails at $3,899 versus W 5965 (now a runout model) priced at $2,499.
I seriously considered all the bells and whistles of the newer W1 model and, in reality, came to the conclusion that there are only so many cycles and options I would use. Each of Miele's machines would cover my requirements. While I liked the idea of the convenience of not having to place detergent in the machine for every wash, the individual costs for all of the W1 accessories add up - particularly over years.
I kept getting drawn back to the quality feel of the W 5965. Like my old Gorenje, it has a real sturdy build to it. I also liked the more simplistic styling and navigation panel.
I went ahead and purchased the W 5965.
The Miele delivery staff arrived a couple of days later with the machine, when they said, and promptly installed the machine. They set it up and connected the machine to the water outlets. They didn't go out of their way to explain the main functions, so I recommend that you go on line before delivery and review the online manual and, if you have any questions, ask the installation staff at the time of them installing the machine. I'd read the menu and merely chose to ask about the maintenance aspect of the machine. The staff were very helpful in answering my questions.
I've now put the machine through its paces. The machine runs like a dream. The clothes come out lovely and clean - almost dry with its high quality spin, thus reducing line drying times for me by about 25-30%.
I have not experienced any issues with regard to the machine being harsh on clothes.
The steam care function works well, reducing ironing. My hubby is happy as he irons his own shirts.
I really like the load sensing function and the fact that it tells me how much powder to dispense, ensuring optimum cleaning.
The 3 line display detailing the programme choices makes it easy to scroll through the menu and choose your programme, stain options, and extras (if required). I love the simplicity and clarity of the W 5965 navigation system.
I wanted a washing machine that would bring me into this day and age by way of programmes, improved spin speed, improved wash, greater cleaning choices, steam care for shirts and greater economy re electricity and water usage. This machine has delivered on each of these.
I definitely recommend this machine.
*I also purchased the matching dryer - T 8929 and am very happy with its performance too.

extra water, low spin, low detergent, small loads with no.improvements. I called Miele thinking, this can't be right, to.their credit they sent a technician right away and he went.thru.the settings, finding.that a number of them that would influence wash and spin action were set to.Off rather than On. Once these were adjusted along with water levels, there is definitely.some improvement. However I.do.still find clothing.is more stretched than I would like on.the gentle cycles and pilling is still more prevalent than on my.old Bosch. Clothes are very clean and I love the way it washes items such.as trainers, doonas, towels etc, but I can't agree about it.being the gentlest on clothing, which is how it's marketed. Either that or there is something.amiss with manufacturing.
Ruining clothes – The washing machine has ruined our clothes. Our clothes that are Cotton/Polyester mix blend, were perfectly fine in our old Miele front loader - are now pilling like crazy with this new machine. frustrating.
They claim that the HoneycombCare drum makes your clothes last 4 times longer - it is the complete opposite! We are throwing out ruined clothes at an alarming and expensive rate.
At this point, I actually have more trust in a laundromat over this machine.
We've tried all the different settings and options (and there are many) and I only use delicate liquid detergent. I also use fabric softener. I haven't found an option that works yet. These new machines use limited water, however, it seems the limited water does not provided enough lubrication between the items, causing them to rub against each other creating pills. There are settings that allow "Water Plus" but pills still develop.
It's rather ridiculous that with all the bells, whistles, and price tag the machine comes with - there isn't one option that doesn't pill clothes. We know it is the machine, not the dryer, because I hang dry majority of these clothes.
If it didn't pill clothes, it would be actually be a very good machine.
It has to be a lemon.
We will be contacting Miele - although it is past the 30 day money back mark. Hopefully I can update this review with a positive review and customer service experience.
Terrible Installation & Customer Service – Maybe I'm expecting too much, but for $3.6k I'd like a washing machine that is correctly installed and doesn't 'walk' out of the cupboard each time I use it. I'd also expect some customer service. in person. After the installer 'fixed' the issue of the machine shifting during the spin cycle it happened again. This time I spoke to Tracey who advised that the same installer [who had done a shabby job the first two tomes] could have another look, but I would be unable to request a different installer. I advised I was not happy with this so she said she would call me back. Four days later and I am still waiting for the call... Also the machine collects water in the rubber seal of the door.
For the amount of money spent I would really not expect such a troublesome product and woeful customer service.
Customer service / machine shifts when in use / water in door seal
If you are not happy with your Miele you can return under their 30 day money back guarantee. It is normal for some water to collect in the seal.

wears quite thick business shirts and the steam function doesn't seem to do a great deal for those but does improve ironing required for thinner type shirts.
As mentioned in other posts, we have a towel handy to wipe the seal out after each use but am still very impressed with our investment and hope to get a lot more years out of it than the last one. Well built, programmes for everything, super quiet and washes very well. Water remaining in door seal, expensive but hopefully you get what you pay for in terms of longevity.
No complaints - it washes, it's quiet, it steams :) – I am a proud owner of the Miele W5965 WPS. It was installed by Miele technicians who had to carry the 100kg washing machine up a flight of stairs as the laundry closet is located on the 2nd floor of my townhouse. Yes, it's an expensive bit of tech, but the steam function means I literally no longer need to iron my business shirts, thus saving me time, and to some extent energy on using a hand held steam iron that I would have otherwise had to purchase. Yes, some items may need a little ironing but its true, it reduces ironing by up to 50%! Honestly, you get what you pay for. I personally hate washing as laundry day is an unsexy thing, but this Miele 5965 makes it an absolute pleasure and joy to use! Steam function reduces the need for ironing. Quiet operation. Clothes come out clean as it should. Built like a tank! Water collects in the rubber seal. You'll need to ensure you use a sponge to soak up the water that collects in the door seal to reduce any damp smell. The price is rather steep for a washing machine!
NOT HAPPY, JAN!! – BUYERS BEWARE ... I recently took delivery of my Miele washing machine and its 'matching' dryer - however, I am, as yet, unable to use either due to installation issues. Why? on our existing plinth due to Miele's policy. Their Technical Manager quoted policy/OHS issues associated with installation on a plinth, asked me whether our plinth could withstand 300kg of downward pressure, particularly when both washer and dryer are simultaneously in use, and asked did I have an Engineer's certificate to this effect. Our 'custom built' laundry was installed about 12 years' ago to take a Kleenmaid 'stacked' washer and dryer on a plinth as we have a slate floor and uneven surface. The Miele installer noted that they are not allowed to install appliances on a plinth, but only on a level concrete or tile floor. He also said this was not the first time that they were unable to perform an installation due to plinth issues, so others have also been caught out. The installers had to remove the existing appliances to prepare for the installation but failed to notice that they were sitting on a plinth. They had also removed the packing from the washer before checking that the installation space was up to Miele's 'standards'.
This was an urgent purchase as my Kleenmaid washer 'blew up' last Sunday morning, and, following research and the fact we have another Miele appliance, I chose this brand for its reliability, endurance and positive comments from other buyers and headed to my nearest Miele agent. You have offered to refund the $50 installation fee, but now I'm up for a cabinetmaker's inspection/problem fix and a plumber to install the appliances. It's nearing the end of the week and everyone is busy, so I'm still waiting ...

Love my Miele – I had a Bosch front loading washing machine for about four years. This machine converted me to front loaders. rating, I read reviews and asked a lot of stores if they were quieter than Bosch and everyone said they were. I took a punt and purchased the 8kg and am very happy with it. If I knew the Bosch were quiet then I would say buy Bosch because Miele are so expensive and I think they clean the same, if the new model Bosch is noisy then I am glad I spent the extra money so I don't have to put up with a jet plane in my house for a few hours a day. Miele is super quiet when washing and quiet when spinning. I really love all the programs, I use the pre-wash, soak, extra water and extra rinse all of the time. Quiet, has rinse and hold option, if you want a sleep you can put the washing on and it will hold the spin until you want it to. Even though it is quiet and you probably wouldn't need it, it is a good feature to have. Love the pre-soak, gives the dusty work clothes a rinse before washing so you are not washing in dirty water. Does not fit a queen size duna in it, managed to squeeze mine in but there was not enough room to wash properly and came out with detergent on it even with an extra rinse. Wish Miele made a 9kg washing machine.
