Do they even make this still... 15+yrs and still going strong – Still have this old beauty! Bring it out from time to time when I’m being lazy and want a quick straighten! 15+yrs old and still does it’s job. Obviously so many better products available now, but an oldie and a goodie. Still going strong Show details

16 years old and still amazing! – Built to last! My hairdresser convinced me to buy this 16 years ago and I scoffed at the $240 price. Best hair buy ever. Makes easy work of long, thick hair. Show details

Fantastic, the original and the best! – I've had my Muster for 13 years and it's still going strong!!! It may not look as attractive as the newer models but it has never failed me. I have dropped it on numerous occasions and it survived. It's heavy and not ceramic, but just keeps on going and the results are gorgeous. I have used it every day and never had a problem. The plates are… Read more

really wide which means you can do a lot of hair at the one time. Occasionally you can get hair caught in the sides, but I think it still runs rings around the newer ghd models. Won't be buying any other straightener until this little baby dies....and I think it's still got life left in it yet.

Excellent – I have had my Muster for 10 years. I like the combs because they make for a smooth slide down the hair. I have used straighteners without combs and they drag and pull my hair. The combs do fall off frequently though, but I don't let it get to me. Because the plates are bigger, it does't take so long to do all my hair. I have naturally frizzy dry hair. Touch-wood she is still going strong after 10 years. lasting smoothness and combs

Excellent – LOVE IT. In my opinion, better by far than anything else so-far made for straightening hair. Straightens hair 'to the core', leaves it shiny and smooth, hair stays as straight as possible until next wash (I won't claim dead-straight, because on my hair that is near-impossible). It does cause damage to hair - any heat-styling will. So use a good… Read more ·  2

protectant and leave-in conditioner, especially on the ends. That seems to work wonders for me. Where to start? Yes, it is bulky (especially the big one, like I use). It can be difficult to manage if you are used to the smaller, 'stream-lined' straighteners out there (Hi-Lift, GHD, Silver Bullet, et al). BUT I think the weight, and the actual x-shaped design help me straighten my hair. I have had my original Muster for years - it must be close to 10 now - and have actually gotten it repaired whenever it has 'died' (this is the third time now). This is simply because I have tried most other straighteners out there - department store, salon and hairdresser brands alike - and nothing comes close to straightening my hair like the Muster.

I have reasonably thick, reasonably curly hair (but nothing extreme!) and for some reason the majority of the straighteners out there just don't get the same finish as the Muster - straight and silky and shiny. I put this down to both the weight of the machine (I think being bulky and heavy actually adds to the 'iron' effect, by using the weight of the straightener to compress hair further), as well as the material the plates are made of (I know everyone speaks highly of ceramic, but I find that my hair frizzes and becomes much drier when using products made from this - does anyone else find this???) Simply said, I have found Muster to be the original and the best. I only hope that the current Muster models available are from the same mould as the originals, because I think it is finally time to stop repairing the old model and just replace it. =) Everything other people have said is true, except regarding 'low' heat - I have found the Muster to get hotter than almost any other straightener (hard to gauge accurately without a heat read-out display, but judging from touch alone....)

The combs and the joint-covers do fall off easily. That said, neither is actually essential - in fact, I found the combs annoying and better left off. The joint covers are just for looks. Similarly, hair CAN get caught in between the plates and the tips of the irons - but, as other posters have said, after a bit of use you figure out the way in which to use them to avoid this happening.

My only critique is that they don't last indefinitely - as I have said, mine has now 'blown-up' three times. Twice it actually sparked from the base of the cord, and this last time it just went 'pop' and died. I take the blame for the cord faults - I used to swing it around by the cord, and wrap the cord tightly around the product to travel with sometimes. I think this would have caused too much stress on the cables. So, my bad. The last time it died - well, I think 10-odd years out of any electrical appliance is pretty phenomenal these days, so I just put it down to the straightener being at the end of its natural life.

OK – The Muster used to be one of the kings of hair straighteners pre GHD, but it hasn't kept up with technology and so now I would not advise getting one. Pay a little more and get a better product which will save you hours in the long run. Does an OK job straightening hair. Lasts and lasts forever, mine is quite old now and still does the job. I used… Read more

to think this was one of the best straighteners out there, but I replaced mine with a GHD which I find far better. It takes too long to heat up and my hair gets caught in the edges of it causing it to break strands. I don't find it de-frizz's my hair as well as my GHD does and it's also bulky and heavy, so cannot be used for curling etc and this makes it more difficult to manouvere and also transport.

Good – This unit would have been great if it wasnt for the side combs falling off. This was one of the best straighteners when they first came out. Ive had mine for more than five years and its still going strong. If I were to buy one again id consider the GHD which are at least a couple of hundred dollars. Once its heated up it does a terrific job at… Read more

straightening my fairly wiry/wavy hair Takes a while to heat up, the combs attached to the sides can fall off frequently and also my hair can get caught on the sides of the plates. Its a fairly big unit too so a little hard to get into closer to your scalp area unless you have someone do the straightening for you. The price initially as I paid over $120 for mine but then it pays for itself. Slight rust has developed on plates over time.

Excellent – Mine has lasted 10 years and only recently am having issues with the cord jiggling and turning off. I live in the US now and I can't find one to replace it with other than those little 1 inch ones which I know won't work in my thick curly hair. I love my flat iron, the $300 investment has paid off, averaging $30 a year but saving me hundreds in… Read more

Excellent – Stand out winner, well worth the investment, the original and the best. A wide plate muster for straightening and ghd for curling. Muster is the Original of SERIOUS hair straighteners, forget those department store ones, been there done that, no good; I have curly hair, I paid $300 for my Muster 10 years ago and it only died recently. I cannot… Read more

speak highly enough of them, it does the job with serious heat and serious results, no mucking around here. If Muster did a round barrel one like the new GHD's I'd get one of those for sure. Same as others mentioned, side caps fall off, just take them off, their just decoration, and the hair can get caught in the edges of the plate, but you learn to prevent it.

Excellent – I am on my second Muster now and will continue to buy them. My first one lasted about 4 years with daily use. I believe it only died because I took it traveling around the world and it didn't cope with airlines throwing it around. These straightens heat up very quickly and are very hot. I have to be careful now to keep my child away from it… Read more

because it does take a while to cool down after use. Heats up quickly. Straightens hair very well. Takes a while to cool down afterwards so have to be careful to keep out of reach of children.

Excellent – The Muster comes highly recommended by me, especially for long and thick hair. It heats up quickly and is safe to use. I love the Muster!! Mine too has recently "gone to God" after 6 years of using it most days. I have very thick & longish hair and I can get a fantastic result in a short amount of time. and I tell them less than 20 minutes they can't beleive it. I like that it has a bit of weight about it and the wide plates. It also doesn't get overly hot on the outside and can be held at the open end for better direction whilst styling Apart from the usual side caps coming off and losing one of the combs (even though I only used one on mine, I can't complain about it. I think a spiral cord would be great on any hair appliance.

Good – I have had mine for over 5 years, and I am now going to replace it as I have dropped it a few times and one side does not heat up very much anymore. It has been a very reliable product. Gives exceptionally straight hair everytime Gets very hot, will burn hair if you aren't careful. Does not have ceramic plates to protect the hair, therefore you can not use it all the time as you end up with dry split ends.

OK – This is the first straightener that I purchased and it really did the job well. Decided to upgrade to newer models with ceramic plates because it is less damaging to the hair. Excellent results with poker straight hair every time. Bulky in size and hair can get caught on the sides of the plate.

Excellent – I have had this hair straightener for about 6 years and it has never let me down. Even though it does not have ceramic plates, I find it straightens very quickly so you don't need to run over the same segment of hair as many times as you would using other straighteners. It straightens my hair quickly and leaves it looking smooth and shiny. It is… Read more

quite durable, mine has been able to withstand being dropped on several occasions. Hair can get caught in the edges of the plates, however once you get the hang of using this straightener it can be avoided. It is quite bulky and heavy compared to other straighteners and it does not have ceramic plates. The small plastic covers over the hinges sometimes fall off.

Excellent – I think you definitely can't go wrong with this machine. i have used it almost every day for the past 6 years and it hasn't ever done me wrong... that's over 2100 days of usage!!!! I have used this hair straightener for 6 years now and i use it about 5-6 times a week! My hair is naturally very curly and i can straighten my hair so every strand is… Read more

dead straight. The only thing i can think that is not good about this product is that it is slightly heavy and if you hold it on an angle there is a chance your hair gets caught and rips out. It hurts...

Excellent – The trick is to remove one of the two combs that it comes with, it works better that way. other than that it's an amazing straightener, by far the best i've ever tried. I love the Muster hair staightener! i've had it for over 5years now and it still works just as good as when i first bought it. it straightens my curly hair effortlessly with perfect results everytime!

Excellent – Don't bother wasting your money on cheap hair straighteners, just go and buy a Muster - you won't regret it. This is truly the best hair straightener I've owned. After six years of solid use it's finally packed in. There's no doubt I'll buy Muster again!!! The only thing I had a problem with was that the caps on the side of the machine fell off, however it had no effect on the machine. Apparently it's a common fault that happens.

Excellent – My hair is very frizzy and wavey and the Muster always made it dead straight and silky smooth. Well worth the money I paid for it. Mine just died after 8 years and it was used at least twice a week, every week for eight years. I don't know of anyother hair straightener that has lasted that long. The only con I can think of is that it has a metal plate instead of the ceramic which are suppose to be better for your hair.
