Another one of those brands I tried because it was on special, but the dogs only ate a bit and then refused it. Looks like they’re gonna be stuck on RC Mini and Air Dried. Was hoping for some more options, some variety, nope. Show details

Just purchased the new formula chicken vegetables and rice. Don't go near it,both my dogs have been so sick. Vomiting foul smelling gas, blood in diarrhoea,an allergic reaction, continuous chocking.something is very wrong with the batch or there are new ingredients in it. My boys have settled now but still keeping a close eye on them.

I am very disappointed with my purchase in Woolworth of this product for my Pomeranian dog. I carefully read the label, which states “all breeds,” but I have some concerns. I wonder if this company was just established recently. Why they produce larger cube-shaped pellets but labeled for small breeds or all breed? The size of the pellets is… Read more

similar to that of dice, making them suitable only for larger dogs, despite the label saying “all breeds.”. My dog refuse to eat.

Waste money for this product. Don't buy Optimum 3kg dog food if you have small breed dog.

Violently ill and lost my pet – My diabetic dog ate this, became violently ill. Couldn’t keep down water, refused to eat. Inflammation on brain and was critical and had to be put down. Younger healthier dog also vomiting.

Causes significant hair loss in dogs – Changed my dog to optimum as it seemed like a more cost effective option and was convenient as it is available in bulk. Endorsed by Dr Chris Brown, I didn’t worry at all about possible side effects in my dog. Since changing foods, she has experienced significant hair loss. I was horrified to read the reviews of similar experiences from other pet owners after we had noticed hair loss in our girl. Would not recommend, at all! Show details

Great Food for My Dogs – I’m surprised at the number of reviews complaining of gastric problems with Optimum Dry Dog food. I have fed it to multiple dogs, large and small and puppy and adult for about 11 years. I’ve never had a problem. It’s well priced and scientifically researched by the Waltham Institute I have, however found that the wet food does upset their tummies… Read more

so I don’t use that. All my dogs have loved Optimum and wolfed it down. We rarely have to go to the vet and they are happy, energetic and have lovely shiny coats.

Don’t go there – This made my dog vomit and she had terrible wind, so not going here again with this product, it was my first purchase and now my last, my dog is a toy cavoodle and she inside 24/7 apart from supervision outside so I know she has not eaten anything she shouldn’t, not to mention the size of the kibble in this brand is not really small enough for a… Read more

toy breed, it’s on the large side, pics below shows the kibble sizes and the kibble on the right side is the optimum for toy breeds and the one on the left is the food I had to substitute and it’s a smaller kibble and not designed for toy breeds but because I’m having major issues trying to get her proper food.

Causes allergies for dogs – This dog food should be taken off the market. Our Tibetan Terrier over a period of 3 months developed severe skin allergies resulting in sores under his chin and his stomach from the scratching he did. He also developed ear infections from the scratching. We visited our vet 3 times and our dog was on two doses of antibiotics and antihistamine and… Read more

creams. The cost was hundreds of dollars. We assumed the allergies may have been due to the plants in our garden due to spring in Melbourne. His symptoms healed after we purchased a Vet brand of dog food for 2 months. In the past week, our dog was given Optimum by a relative from the unfinished packet while we were on holidays. He has since scratched and itched himself full of sores. My heart sunk after we were able to pinpoint the cause of all his sores. It was Optimum! Our dog has been in pain and he had suffered in the past 4 months due to Optimum. I still do not understand how Chris Brown endorses such a BAD product.

Optimum Adult Large Breed is good for our Labrador – Our Labrador was originally on Eukanuba, but I changed her to Optimum Adult Large Breed about 5 years ago, because the Optimum is about half the price. I transitioned her from one food to the other over a few days, rather than making a sudden change. She did fine on the Eukanuba, and is doing fine on the Optimum. I checked the ingredients in… Read more

detail, and the calorie and protein details, they all seemed the same. Both dog foods are based on beet pulp, a good source of fibre.

I liked the Eukanuba over other dog food because her poo was firm and easy to pick up from the garden or out on walks. It is the same on the Optimum. (This is probably down to the beet pulp).

She likes her food and gobbles it down. The larger pellets are supposed to make them chew, but she just seems to swallow them whole.

The last couple of times, the vet has noted plaque build-up on her teeth, and has offered to anaesthetize her and clean them. For $500. I've started giving her daily dental chews, I think this is a safer (and cheaper) option.

OPTIMUM GRAINFREE: THIS COULD BE A WINNER! – Discerning dog lovers always want to know which is the healthiest food product on the shelf to buy! With Optimum Grainfree dry formulation, manufacturers have finally turned the corner towards producing what our pooches' physiologies dictate. They works on a logical premise that, in the wild, dogs eat very few carbohydrates, relying on what they… Read more

can kill or scrounge. Scarily, it has been suggested by researchers that a dog's diet consisting of excessive amounts of carbohydrate over a prolonged period can, in fact, lead to the dog developing cancers. Optimum Grainfree boasts one of the highest ratios of Protein (35%)/Fats (13%)/Moisture (9%)/Linoleic Acid (Omega 6)(2.5%)/Other vitamins versus the remaining carbohydrate component in the form of vegetables(approx. 40%). Add to this the fact that ingredients are listed in order of content volume, it speaks well for Optimum Grainfree that poultry, then poultry by-products are listed first, followed by vegetables, vitamins and minerals. Lastly, the manufacturers increase the credibility of their product when they admit that 'research shows that the feeding a mix of both wet and dry products has a broad range of health benefits' for your dog. At last a product, that challenges other brands on the shelves to get it right!

Senior won't eat anything else – My 10 year old Maltese Shitzu simply wont eat any other brand. We typically can get good deals at Coles (around the $13 mark) but even at full price its a good deal. Our dog has a super shiny coat and we've not had any significant gut or health issues. She walks 1K twice a day and we're confident that she's getting all her dietary needs from Optimum which we supplement with unprocessed chicken or beef. Show details

Our dog loves his food – Our 4 year old black lab cross border collie has been on Optimum biscuits since we got him at 10 weeks old. Made my dog violently ill!!! – After feeding this to my dog, he was throwing up and aggressively eating grass for a WEEK. $3000 in vet bills later I finally made the realisation that it was the food when I went to feed it to him after he had recovered (had only eaten chicken and rice for a week following the illness) and he immediately started vomiting again. DO NOT BUY THIS FOOD Show details

Caused hives in my furboy – Given the food shortage I had to buy Optimum dry food for my 3 fur children. Within 1 week my youngest boy broke out in hives. Considering nothing else new had been introduced into the environment or food, I deduced it was the dry food. Swapped for chicken rice home made to cleanse and within 24 hours the hives slowed down and in 48 hours gone completely. Show details

Diarrhoea, gas – Despite the impressive ingredients and Australian origins, positive reviews elsewhere, AVOID. It gave my young dog, within a couple of days, diarrhoea, horrible gas, hunger, bile, vomiting. I've thrown it out. I had wanted an alternative to my main brand, but no more, I should have read customer reviews instead of relying on blogs and site reviews. I'll stick with Black Hawk. Show details
