Overall sentiment regarding Origin Energy is sharply divided. While a significant number of customers praise individual support agents for resolving complex issues with empathy and efficiency, a large volume of negative feedback highlights frustrations with billing accuracy, estimated meter reads, and long wait times to reach customer service. Consumers frequently note that managing plan renewals and resolving administrative disputes can require persistent follow-up.
Best power company – Origin in my view is the best electricity company in Australia to deal with. They offer the best feed in solar tarrifs in Australia and they have the best mobile app. The app is very easy to navigate Show details · 3

Out of nowhere they stopped services to my property for gas because it was non compliant. I got a plumber out and everything was fine. I asked for my money back but they will not return it just the my account is credited but for what because they won't give me a services. So I get a new company which was great because they honestly half the price.… Read more
Today origin energy came onto my property with out permission and stole the gas bottles of the other company, I got it on cctv. I called origin to let them know they made a mistaken and I was informed to call the police. So now I have no way to cook and no hot water and have had to go to the police for something that I was happy to say was an accident. I just need gas and my money back. Never go with this company, they don't want customers and they want to get there staff involved with the police.

Despite my account being in credit at all times, I received multiple emails, SMS messages, and escalation-style communications referring to “missed payments,” including warnings about cancelling my payment plan and potential debt collection. This continued even after I was verbally reassured that everything was in order. The communication was… Read more
inconsistent and contradictory, and required repeated follow up from my side to clarify something that should have been clear from the outset.
The explanation provided was that a failed direct debit triggered these messages. However, this does not justify the nature, tone, or repetition of the communications, particularly given that my account remained in credit.
The issue appears to be a system or process failure rather than an isolated mistake. While individual staff were polite, the overall experience was stressful, confusing, and not handled appropriately.
Can not get a hold of anyone on the phone. My bill went from 500 to 800 same time , a year ago. Not impressed, and can’t get a hold of a customer service agent. I tried mediation, and this is the response…..below. Just not good enough. Show details

Origin Energy stole my money I accidentally transfered my whole wages to a origin energy account that does not have my name on it I'm not even affiliated with the person whose account it went into so after talking to origin they admitted they could see the money they could also see that it was paid from a account that does not belong to the person… Read more

I recently signed up as an Origin customer through Woolworths rewards scheme after switching from another retailer. The tariff and supply charge rates were quite good and also solar feed-in was reasonable (SA customer). However, on receiving my first bill, I noticed that the tariffs and fees were not the same as those on my contract (Origin… Read more
Everyday Rewards Variable plan) but were all higher and the bill was higher as a result (by more than 10%). After questioning this with Origin, the bill was revised to reflect the lower rate. This was 2 months ago and since then I've been trying to get my plan details and tariffs to reflect those that I signed up to, but they have been unable to fix it. I'm told that their "energy experts" are looking into it and somebody will contact me soon to resolve and finalise, but months later it's still unresolved which is most frustrating and the next bill is due to arrive in the coming weeks....

I had just ordered LPG tank bottles, but had to move out. When i asked Origin Energy to pick up the gas tank and credit or refund me, they refused. The customer service person can only read terms to me. I asked if i can remove it and to give me instructions to do it safely but they said that I am not permitted to do so. The service person was rude… Read more
and snarky and completely arrogant towards my situation. After using Origin for 18 years, I am no looking to switch supplier and leave. Other service providers tend to give a refund for unused gas. Origin is unrealistic and does not have real customer problem resolution at heart. I wrote to them and filed a complaint 4 weeks ago with no action taken.
Here I am paying an invoice for gas that me or my family is not using simply because Origin do not want to provide the service to remove unused /full tanks of gas.
Shameful provider with zero empathy for their customers.

It's a fraud company, how can I give 1 star? My plan with Origin is standard plan. General Usage: 35.244 c/kWh Solar feed-in tariff: -- 0 - 8 kWh per day: 8.000 c/kWh -- Over 8 kWh per day: 3.000 c/kWh So, the worst scenario is, purchase price is roughly 10 times more expensive than feed-in price. i.e. 35cents vs 3 cents. However, Origin… Read more
charges me as 20 times more. Given October as an example:
Used: 98.51 kWh $79.01 ==> 80.2 cent per kWh Sold to grid: 1,320.39 kWh $53.26 CR ==> 4 cent per kWh It's over 20 times. way more expensive than their plan suppose to charge.
Same as November, if your math is good enough, give a try. :-)
This is not good. Bad bad reputation for such a big company as Origin, to do commercial fraud.
Shame....

I was contacted by Origin and informed I was due a refund on a closed electricity account. When I filled in the appropriate form, I was told I was NOT due a refund. I have since been told I am due a refund and I'm trying to have the amount refunded directly to my bank account. The process has been ongoing for about 2 weeks. Show details · 1

I would have rated them "No Star" if it was possible. I wasn't sure I was on the best electricity plan so I did a comparison of energy (electricity) providers. As a consequence, I emailed my current provider (Origin) on 5 July at… Read more
<hello@origin.com.au>. I had a response from "Jezryl" on 6 July offering a better plan option. I tried changing on-line but couldn't find the suggested plan! I emailed back and, on 9 July I got a response from "Andy" stating I'd have to actually call Origin on 132461 to make the change. I have tried calling that number several times, not always getting through. However, whenever I did get to talk to someone, I was told that only Andy could move me onto the suggested plan. Each time they'd ask when I'd be available, I'd tell them, they would then say they had "pinged" Andy and that he'd call me. It's now 18 July and I'm still waiting on that call from Andy. Interestingly, I got an email from Origin on 11 July asking, "Were we all kinds of useful"? Obviously, the Origin Survey People are in the dark about what their Customer Service People actually do.
Follow-up · A quick Recap! I started the process on 5th July. On 2nd August I received an email stating that "Lachy" would call me on Monday 3rd August. In between those dates I'd had contact with more than half a dozen different ORIGIN people and received several apologies and assurances. Lachy did call, apologised (yet another apology), and offered to put… Read more

For 2 months I wasn't getting my electricity bills. I called multiple times, but every time someone said they received the call and would inform me, but they never did. John was incredible. I wouldn't give this company one star. Where do I start? Incompetent/Tending on Corporate bullies. For years I've been receiving 'estimated' bills which have usually been more, sometimes much more, than what we have used. Our meter is behind a gate which is easily accessible. 15 metres away there is another (steel) gate about 2.4m tall. We have 2… Read more
Jack Russell dogs which the 2.4m gate prevents from reaching the meter area. Time and time again the reason given for an 'estimated' reading was the dogs, ie; access couldn't be gained to the meter because of the presence of dogs at the meter. But the dogs have ALWAYS been at least 15 metres away behind the steel gate. On one occasion, they didn't do an actual read of our meter for almost 18 months and the estimated bills were usually more than the readings. Often, I don't pay our bills on time, but I pay progressive payments towards the total as finances allow. So I am often late paying the full amount. I have tried to ring to make payment plans but the phone queues are usually lengthy. This doesn't stop Origin from regularly sending text messages, often bordering on sarcastic, requesting payment. Today, I received an email warning me Origin is organizing a 'collection' agency to collect the last remaining $35.96 of the current bill (which I paid yesterday). That was the last straw. Have I paid late? Yes. Do I make regular payments towards each bill? Yes. Do I always make these regular payments? Yes. Though not paid in full by the due date, each bill is paid in a reasonable time and Origin receive their money. I don't, and have never owed thousands. I have a chronic illness which has considerably limited income. In my defence I, like many, would say we are living in the worse cost of living crises for 40 years & we do our best to make the money go around to where it should. And for years, thanks to Net Zero, our power prices have been skyrocketing. I wonder how others are going with the bills juggling battle? Or are many losing the battle as I suspect. There is no such thing as a compassionate Bank. And it seems to me, the same can be said about Origin Energy.
Giving one star because i can't give zero. Told origin lpg about the tricky access at my property and asked them to send a small vehicle. They assured me they would. But instead they send a 6 tonne truck and scratch it trying to get past a boulder. I think "they won't be stupid enough to do that again!". But i underestimated their stupidity! They… Read more
send the same size truck again, and this time nearly get it bogged, and stuck for 30 minutes and tear up my lawn. I don't ask for new lawn, just a leaf of soil to fill the ditches they have created in my lawn. They ignore repeated emails and phone calls for 6 weeks before finally agreeing to send a load of soil. It never arrives. I ring several more times and they agree to pay for the load of soil. Still haven't got the money out of them and now they refuse to bring me gas even though they have underhandedly destroyed most of the competition. I wouldn't consider origin if I were you because they don't look after their customers

After being with origin for over 50 years I was a victim of the recent hacking. Their email to me was all apologetic but I had money taken from my bank. Luckily my bank stopped it. After hearing about the massive data breach in one for their off-shore call centres, I switched energy provider. This is after another little interchange of ideas where, despite my always paying all of my bills on time and in full, Origin continued to bombard me with email and SMS reminders - weeks and days before payment is even due.
I am able to read a bill and I am able to schedule payments. I do not require their 'help' in this. Now that I have switched energy providers. My inboxes are now free of their pleas for early payment.
