BUYER BEWARE - your claims will be rejected because of their fine print! – Policy was easy to set up and pay for BUT do not expect the same if you intend making a claim. We made a claim for out of pocket to purchase new airline tickets because we missed our international connection due to a cancelled flight. QBE have an exclusion in their fine print that states you cannot claim if “the cancellation or delay of travel… Read more
arrangements due to mechanical breakdown of transportation or failure of the carrier to operate the service”
QBE’s policies are a sham. Our daughter, who was travelling with us made the exact same claim on her insurer and was paid, no questions asked. As for their policy of finalising a claim within 3-10 working days - what a crock! We submitted our claim on 24/7/18and after numerous calls finally heard back that our claim was denied on 17/8/18.
Look elsewhere for your travel insurance!
Rubbish – I put in a claim and didn’t hear anything back after a couple of months. Got in touch and was told they will look into it. A couple of months we by and still hadn’t heard anything so I contacted them and I get told that I haven’t put a claim in and was sent a link to the claim page. What’s the point in travel insurance if they are going to… Read more
ignore your claim? They are linked to QBE so I expected a lot better. Will not use either of these companies again. USELESS!
Good value and prompt service – I had a small claim for luggage damage, I provided the paperwork and photos posted in and a cheque was returned no questions no delay. I replaced the luggage during the trip and submitted the receipts, it similar luggage in size and style so there would be no issues, and submitted the claim on my return, it was less than 2 weeks to receive the cheque Good value backed by a huge insurer They will use depreciated value for older items Show details
Great travel insurance at a great price – My wife and myself traveled from London to Kuala Lumpur by ground travel over 8 months and we had several claims. First my wife fell into the sea with her phone in her pocket. QBE paid the price she paid for her phone ($850). Then i smashed my camera screen. QBE paid the price i had paid for the camera ($270). We had a couple of hospital… Read more
visits over the months ($80).
Then a couple of day before we were to fly home my phone was stolen. QBE paid a depreciated value for the phone ($700).
We paid around $1000 for couples insurance and our claims total was $1900.
They paid it with in 2 weeks of claim be lodged and there were a couple of these that i hadn't claimed until 6 months after the trip and one of them happened right at the start of the trip. they really were great insurance company to deal with compared to other. highly recommend Friendly and helpful customer service. Reasonabley priced The site to lodge on sometimes doesn't work. but you can call them and they will get it lodged for you.
Still dealing with an insue that was claimed before december – Underwritten by qbe, if any dialogue is required via email your in trouble. they say they will take 2 weeks for every time its their turn to converse with you via email, and its been 4-6 weeks since i last heard from them. I dropped a $900 camera lense and after depreciation they offered me $150 for it. i cant replace it even second hand for… Read more
anywhere near that. it cant be repaired because its 6-7 years old, though i i'm happy they did let me try and get an opinion on repair. in the end i lost out. electronic goods/camera gear needs to be covered for replacement value. it was a damn good lense despite being 7 years old and minimal use, as good as the day i bought it prior to dropping it. what do you pay a grand in travel insurance for if it cant even cover its own worth?
takes ages, they screw you with depreciation
Good – You only truly understand an insurer when you make a claim. This was a good outcome. Why follow reviews where they haven't mentioned making a claim? Ouch is an online arm of QBE Insurance so you don't pay the exorbitant agents commissions. Good website, reasonable rates (remember, you are taking out insurance to cover losses and assist you in the… Read more
event of a serious mishap. A cheap insurer may not be geared up to do this and be a frustrating waste of money when you try to make a claim). Ouch was recommended by Choice magazine in a recent comparison.I had to claim when our hire car got vandalised on New Years Eve and I was up for a $400 repair bill. I called from OS and got the Melbourne call centre straight away. They were polite and helpful and responded to subsequent emails quickly. Even though vandalism is not spelt out in the policy as claimable, they settled in about a month (I had to send them more info which delayed things a bit). In general with insurance, next time I'd probably take out the $40 excess option, particularly if hiring a car, as the $100 excess applies to every claim (meaning every separate instance of loss). I saw a lady get hit with three excesses on her hire car by the hire car company, adding up to thousands. Ouch indeed. None that I am aware of.
