Ozito Silent Shredder 2400W

This is absolutely useless. Bought it to shred some shrub clippings, really light stuff no more than 11mm thick. Was easy to assemble but that's the only positive. The feeder constantly blocked, and after a while the exit chute would block too. Had to constantly turn it off to clear jammed material. I calculated it would take hours to process, so… Read more
instead I got the lawnmower out and ran it over the lot and it was done in 10 minutes. So the supposed purpose designed machine failed where the humble mower designed for something else left it for dead. Completely unfit for purpose and very poorly designed. Don't buy this junk !
Bought a yellow and green model from Bunnings some years back. Done a reasonable amount of work and performed well. Partner managed to knock a packet of self tapper screws into chute where they hid unbeknownst until I next used it. No problem, cut the screws in half and spat them out. No visible cutter damage. Nothing to do with that episode but I… Read more
never bothered adjusting blade over the years, and a lot of material came out in semi attached 2cm segments, but still compact for binning and fine with me. Yes, the exit chute can get choked, but I simply stuck my hand in and pulled stuff out (not advisable if you have a long forearm). Yes, one learns the art of trimming off right angle branches which refuse to feed through, but no problem. Alas, it finally gave an electrical "pop" and is now dead. This problem will be in the switch section which may be repairable, in the fullness of time, if I can be bothered, or maybe not.
exit chute woes – Bought as a replacement for a previous green and yellow shredder which served for many years before finally dying. New model seems the same except for the addition of the very annoying exit chute that jams up at every opportunity. I read on some posts that it can be removed, so did that. If you turn the shredder on to it's back and look inside you… Read more
will see a phillips screw which you remove. There are still two similar screws that cannot be seen as they are between the chute and outer cover at what is now the back, with the machine lying down . Take a lever of some sort, stick, tyre lever, whatever, and lift the chute a bit away from the outer cover and you will see the remaing screws. Take a phillips screwdriver of at least 250mm length and remove the screws . The chute will fall out in one piece and the shredder works a whole lot better. Note that if you do not have a 250mm reach screwdriver you can attack with blade, saw, tin snips or whatever but for ease the screwdriver is the way to go and if the unit is under warranty still and has to go back for an unrelated issue the first thing that will come up is that you have messed with it. That is the way warranty claims sometimes pan out. Best to refit the chute before taking it back for a claim. Therefore invest in a cheap 250mm driver if you don't have one. Picture shows the screw positions after removal. Finally I agree with other posts that for best results ensure material is dry. If you put newly cut green stuff through, the sap and moisture gets squeezed out, sticks together and around the internal mechanism. Needs at least a couple of weeks to dry out properly I think. Not a situation that only happens with Ozito but all shredders I would think.

Fantastic machine - perfect for garden tidy up – Recently cut down a tree in my garden and had a lot of branches and twigs that I needed to dispose of. Picked up the Ozito silent shredder machine for $299 at Bunnings and it is super easy to assemble. You can shred branches up to 40mm in thickness and the mulch it makes is great for the garden. Love this machine and it made my branch cleanup a breeze. Two thumbs up! Show details
Ozito Silent Shredder 2400W – I purchased this garden shredder from Bunnings about 3 weeks ago for $299.00. I have cut back a medium size Japanese Maple Tree by about 5 Ft all round. After cutting the branches to a reasonable size, the shredder handeled it with ease. It has a horizontal drum cutter which draws the material into it and did not jammed up once. Has a reversing… Read more
switch if necessary and a knob for fine to coarse settings. would recommend this shredder. Cheers Honest Senior.

Excellent value but be prepared to manually clear its exit chute every 5 minutes or so – Shreds as designed but has a design flaw that causes it to choke up and get constipated, as it were. For some strange reason the designer made the exit chute the same size as the throat, so material fails to exit cleanly causing a build up and ultimate total blockage. I have sliced away the chute with a reciprocal saw to open up the chute. Works much better now. Show details
Not sure what you mean/want – Had for years.......used around home....never a problem till now when a fed dried branch seized the cutter.......Now have no documentation on the shredder Show details
Great shredder/mulcher 4 home garden – Does a great job on smaller branches and palm fronds. It prefers slightly drier material - fresh cut Tibouchina will clog but 2/4 day old is fine. Munches up branches to a coarse mulch - perfect for our 900m2 property. Love it to bits! (Don’t know about “silent”. True if you’re deaf in one ear and can’t hear from the other. ) Show details
Negative reviews
Terrible – For the 5 minutes it worked, it mearly mashed up the branches we fed it, didn't cut anything and smaller more flexible branches just got wrapped aroound the blade. Then it stopped working altogether. Returning. Show details
Don't bother – I had the previouse, yellow, version of this shredder and it did a good job on dry palm fronds and woody branches. Unfortunately the motor in old shredder failed after giving good service for many years. The new, grey, version has a smaller modified outlet schute that easily blocks. Even dryer wood causes blockages. The motor also stalls easily.… Read more
Notably the circuit breaker does not 'pop' immediately, which could explain some of the reported motor failures.
Poor decision – I need to crouch down an d pull the fronds through. If I don’t it wraps around tightly and takes ages to unnamed it. Can see muck all over blades but can’t access them to clean. Show details

Used properly, it’s terrific – Bought a year ago to shred palm fronds and woody vegetation. Works very well giving small pieces of mulch for the garden. The fronds and sticks shred best when very dry. I leave them for a month to dry out and shred effectively in one go. Great machine. Show details
The old model was good, new model disappointing – Please confirm your review Ozito 2400W Corded Silent Garden Shredder Old one good, new one crap. I wrote a glowing review about the the older shredder a couple of weeks ago. We had the older model for 5-6 years that worked great until the adjusting bolt stripped and could not be user replaced (bit of a fault cheap metal). We used the old one so… Read more
often that we thought we would get another one thinking it would be the same or better. Unfortunately, no. The new model looks the same but has been modified to make it ‘safer’ by reducing the outlet shute. Now it clogs up way too often and restricts what comes out of the cutter resulting in material wrapping around it. We spend as much time clearing it as actually using it. Also the former unit had an easy to use direction dial which has been replaced by switches. The only improvement is that the cutter adjustment now has a knob but I wonder if the quality of the bolt’s metal has been upgraded. We are returning the unit as it’s not worth persisting with. Don’t buy one unless you can modify it yourself (thus voiding any future warrantee claim)

Performance is OK, but overall poor quality and doesn't last – Pros: AC inverter motor is powerful, never had any issue with it stalling. It is fairly quiet (not "silent" though!) Mulches effectively pretty much anything you throw at it; it does do palm fronds, but not particularly well, especially if they're green. Tree branches etc are fine. Cons: it is quite prone to clogging and has to be unclogged… Read more
often. The legs and support frame are pretty flimsy. After only infrequent use the blade needs replacing as it has run out of adjustment. I was about to embark on that process when the whole unit just died. It's only a few years old and is only used occasionally.
I wouldn't recommend this shredder. Ozito is a cheap Chinese brand, and in hindsight you get what you pay for: buy a cheap Chinese product, get cheap Chinese quality, with bonus Planned Obsalesence built in!
The price I paid below includes the cost to take it to the dump.
I have replaced it with a Bosch unit. Review on that coming soon!
Its the best if you follow the instructions. WAIT UNTIL ALL THE CUTTINGS have dried out ! – Turn the switch and away you go. Modify the adjustment bolt by replacing it with a 50mm Hex head matchingh s/s bolt. Does all our massive palm fronds Before they dry out comp[letly WE HAVE ABOUT 50 PALMS ABOUT 15M. Good for Palm Fronds but God Help You if You Need Parts – This appliance manifests its self in a number of guises. In Australia it is an Ozito, in New Zealand it is a Morrison and in the U.K. it is a Spear and Jackson. As with many things these days, the plastic covers and branding change but the internals seem to be the same. If you have to continually dispose of palm fronds or woody branches this… Read more
machine will save you the trouble of taking them to the tip, stinking out your neighbors with a rubbish fire, or trying to stuff them in the rubbish bin: it chops up palm fronds and woody material easily and reduces them to shredded stuff which can be composted or used a mulch. It does not like green fleshy stuff , however. This will clog the cutter and require a lot of cursing to unblock it. It will also shred paper and all the advertising material that comes pouring through your letter box if it is rolled up. Overall it's easy to use but will not cope with soft green stuff like leaves etc.
The cutting mechanism consists of a large electric motor which rotates a geared steel cutting blade against an aluminum cutting block. As it is made of the softer material, the block will eventually wear away and snap and you will have to replace it. On the machines I have owned his an easy job. Unfortunately, getting a replacement part from Ozito is impossible as they do not answer the phone. Instead you have to deal with Bunnings' Special Orders which seems to be staffed by people who share DNA with Frank Spencer. Consequently a task as trivial as buying a disposable part like lawn mower blades or line trimmer cord becomes a saga.
All in all this is a robust appliance which generally does as its claimed to do but easily obtaining the only part that wears out is a real hassle.
not bad. i recommend to anyone who need a small chipper for sticks . not for leaves or soft stuff – found on the side of the road all blocked up. 5 minutes of unblocking and its working perfectly. This is what i would describe as a rotary axe. It chops against an adjustable aluminium anvil but you need to leave a small gap between the rotating chopping blades and the anvil. As such it won't cut leaves very well but it will chop up anything… Read more
larger than about 3mm. i have several wood chippers including a commercial tow behind weighing 1000kgs. This is not a commercial unit but it is handy for small sticks up to about 30mm and at almost any time of day. silent? no, but it is very very quite. This won't rip a branch out of your hand or throw it back in your face. As mentioned by others the lower chute is fitted with a plastic reducer that i removed. its not required unless you are the type of person that puts your hand up inside a crushing machine while its running.
Better than nothing ... but admittedly - not much – Bought it to service a roughly 1 ha section with plenty of trees. Plus: rather quiet (though not really "silent", hearing protection still required). Pullls in branches if it gets a grip. Minus: Likes to jam up; Not a shredder but a squeezer. Spent half of the time kneeing next to the shredder and trying to unjam it. Anyway - better than having… Read more
no shredder at all, but the usefulness depends on the specific application. It is quite good to turn broomsticks into chips if that's what you are after ... but I don't know many people who want to do that. It works for some garden materials better than for others. Useful for not too wet and off growing season decidious trees as long as they are streight (e.g. branches of fruit trees in winter). Not so good for most evergreens (like e.g. fir or pine branches) - it turns them best case into long strings which are still difficult to handle and not compostable.
The cutting drum needs regular adjustments. After only three years in use is it now at the end of its adjustment range and I couldn't find any workshop who could give me a quote for replacing the drum. Oziko customer service (both NZ as well as the Ossie HQ) is hopeless as well, they didn't even bother to come back to me to give me a workshop which repairs their stuff.
I guess the shredder might be ok for people with a (really) small section and a small number of trees. The advice "only for DIY" should have been a warning to me. What they really meant is: buy only if you don't have a lot of work for this tool. I wouldn't buy it again.
I'll keep it, took to it with a recip saw on first day ;) 3.5 score if I could – Bought this Silent Shredder brand new today. Unboxed, legs and wheels on in 10 mins, plugged in and ready to roll. Started off with some dried NZ flax leaves, was disappointed at single leaves but it worked ok when getting small handfuls, doubling them over and feeding them through. Doing it this way, I'd give 7/10 as some leaves still come… Read more
through whole etc. Then tried canna, 5/10 with this. Some worked, some created a mushy ball that clogged up the top of the blade wheel. Same with Banana leaves, Heliconia whole stalks were slightly better, but still the same. The bottom chute is tapered so tends to clog even more than the top of the blades with the softer stuff. Don't get me wrong here, I wasn't expecting miracles but I was really disappointed and I was thinking to sell it but I went with the 'Ah, bugger it' approach and cut the whole bottom chute of with a recip saw, just under the blade wheel. Oh my, what an improvement! Take note here Ozito, maybe flare the chute out at the bottom, instead of tapering it in. It now chewed through all the soft stuff, some minor clogging above the blade wheel, but some golden cane fronds being pushed through sorted that out. Keep some harder branches or fronds handy, because there is no paddle with this machine. It loves the palm fronds and the grape vine, so I can imagine it will do really well with shrubs and tree branches. Mulch texture is approx 2.5cm pending what your pushing through, Motor didn't hesitate on anything today and sound pretty strong. I really don't know what other people are complaining about with noise, I didn't wear earmuffs and had it going all afternoon (on and off at 5 min intervals). It's pretty quiet imo. Blade adjustment it easy. It's weighty, but easily maneuverable on wheels. I threw away the supplied bag, replaced with a large plastic rectangle tub. It could do with easier access to clean the inside, but mine's not too bad now ;) Do I prefer this now that I have modded it, over a rapid shredder screaming at me and creating a smaller mushy mulch, yes I do.
goes forever – I've had an earlier model of one of these for over ten years and worked it hard. It hasn't skipped a beat and still shreds well. It's 'bite' is easily adjustable. Show details
Impressive for what I need – I needed a shredder to get rid of hedge trimmings, and clean up around a suburban garden. First use, get rig of metre high celery bushes that had gone to seed. Tough job as celery was so stringy. bottom chute gets blocked easily, but safe enough to unclog while running. Next job trim trees. Chopped this to pieces about 25mm long. Then recently… Read more
soft hedge clippings. the trick is to keep the bottom chute clear and don't try to stuff too much in at the same time. It's quieter than I imagined it would be. I use a big bucket, one of those soft ones with the 2 handles that Bunnings sell for about $5.00 instead of the soft bag that comes with the unit. For cleaning up around the home every month or so, its great. Remember this is a rotary cylinder that chops the debris to around 25mm. It is not a shredder so debris doesn't come out looking like grass clippings.
Not silent. Not any good – This screamingly loud unit lasted for 6 uses over 2 years before the motor burnt out and it could barely handle 10 mm sticks and likely drove ourneighbours mad. Electric was a mistake. Show details

Not too bad actually – I bought this after a palm tree decided to drop all its fronds, It did an amazing job although I would not call it silent. It does get a little blocked up but I just help it along and it did a good job for the price, especially considering the cost of the more expensive ones. It's light enough to manoeuvre around from place to place and it's not… Read more
heaps loud. It does not chop up as well as it should which is why I think it got blocked up but as I said, it shaves me the pain of having to do it with manual cutters so I am happy with it
Great for helping to compact garden waste – Easy to use and reasonably "quiet". It drastically reduces waste volume. I bought for $150 from FB Marketplace, no real expectations. I don't understand the critical reviews as this unit does the job and is satisfying to use. No problems chomping through good sized branches as long as reasonably straight. It is common sense that rigid Y-shapes… Read more
will not feed through. Smaller twiggy bushes will dissapears in no time. It can get backed up with leaves or soft material. I usually sit on a couple of besser-blocks as I find the outlet low to the ground to feed into a small bucket or bag. I have also used to chip stringy gum tree bark for placement around plants. Blade adjustment is straightforward which I did once before first use. Overall all, very happy and consider it invaluable for cleanups of my bushy garden.
Does a solid job on branches and foliage – I purchased this machine two weeks ago to mulch overgrowth from a number of trees on our block. The first tree dealt with has been a lilli pilli which proved to be pretty tough but the machine has been up to the job. It is pretty quiet as claimed. Negative points are few but do have a bearing on the machine's operation. For some reason, the… Read more
chute is too small and can become blocked easily. It is a tight fit to get my hand in to clear the blockage and I have skinned knuckles as a result. It appears the chute insert may actually be removable so I intend to see if this alleviates the problem.
The second issue is the machine's height. It could be taller as the bottom of the chute is only about 300 mm above ground level and the collector bag needs constant shuffling of the mulch to keep the chute clear. In this respect, the collector bag is useless and I use a laundry basket instead. I would recommend this machine for domestic use as it has performed well and worked effectively in my experience.
EDIT. Since writing the original review, I have removed the inner chute. It's retained by three screws which require a very long Phillips screwdriver to reach. With it removed, the chute opening is much larger and the choke point is removed. As pointed out elsewhere, the narrow chute is intended to prevent fools trying to clear blockages while the machine is running but the opening is now so much larger that there is far less likelihood of jams occurring.
An Absolute Beast – I bought this a couple of weeks ago and I'm really impressed. After an initial jam where I tried to find it's limits on branch size - it hasn't jammed once. It shreds almost anything but what it likes best is Camelia and Rhodadendron and similar branches up to around 25mm in diameter. Its very sturdy, well built, easy to operate, self feeding and… Read more · 1
you can easily adjust the rotary cutting head to suit any type of material. I think the secret to it's performance is the powerful motor attached to a small geared down slowly spinning rotary set of heavy duty blades. This also means it is very quiet in operation. Highly recommended.
Rubbish piece of kit – Mine machine lasted 15 minutes. Difficult to start and then once going the shred was poor. Barely cut material 5mm in diameter. It died ... I took it back to the vendor. Show details
Ended modifying – At first this was a big disappointment and was ready to return it to Bunnings, was always jamming in the outlet chute. Got out the hacksaw and cut off the lower body and chute, now it never jams and will cut through just about anything. Obviously the outlet chute is only there to stop our nations halfwits sticking their hands in a moving machine. With the chute removed it’s a fantastic machine Show details
great at what it's designed for – I dithered for some time about buying this shredder, first because of the weight, then the price, and then some of the bad reviews gave me pause. However after using it a couple of times I'm thrilled with it. It did exactly what I wanted, which was to turn a large pile of wattle prunings quickly and quietly into mulch. I obviously haven't had… Read more
it long, but the build quality seems better than I was expecting from an Ozito. The controls are simple and well-designed. The branches I was shredding were mostly green and about 15mm thick. I lopped through any large forks before shredding. It says max 40mm on the machine but I reckon that'd be pushing it. Maybe with two passes like it says in the manual. It will do dry stuff but not if it's thick and/or hard.
Shredding proceeded by poking the end of the branch into the slot till it grabbed, then just letting it feed itself through. I didn't use a basket and just ran it onto the ground, kicking the resultant mulch pile out of the way periodically so it didn't back up into the machine. One time it jammed when I tried to feed a large dry branch - in that case I did what the manual said, which was to stop the machine and use the reverse setting to back it out, then went straight back to shredding.
It's not literally silent but it is pretty quiet compared to conventional mulchers. I was using it with the neighbours and their kids playing in their backyard and they didn't seem at all bothered.
Using it was positively fun. My main problem now is finding more stuff to feed through it. Great unit for branches.
Broke 3 months out of warranty – Worked well for 3 years and 3 months. Then stopped without warning. Was not even heavily loaded at the time. No support, no service when out of warranty. So my only option is to toss it, when the issue might be very minor. Ok if you want a disposable shredder for $100/year. Show details
Very disappointment, experienced frequent jams – Very disappointment, experienced frequent jams. I spent more time clearing Jams that i did chopping. they seem to have narrowed the expulsion chute. garden which enriches our sandy soil and saves water - win, win.
It should be noted that this shredder it designed for shredding branch type material (with leaves attached - we have a lot of lilly-pilly which it handles with no problem) more than leafy succulents or fibrous material (ie agapanthas, lillies) etc.
One minor thing is that the collection bag that comes with the shredder is pretty useless. Do yourself a favour and go to Bunnings and pick up an EzyStorage 42ltr Oblong Flexible Tub (about $5) this works a treat.

Disappointed, my experience is not good – I expect a product like this to just work. Well, I set up and turned it on and fed some recently cut soft wood branches with leaves, none exceeding the 40mm specified, and, it just clogged up.
