Great value for the money! – This is a great unit. Mainly because of the USB facility. This unit can take up to an 8GB size flash stick - which is plenty. Has lots of sound settings. Doesn't have a dedicated graphic equalizer but has the next best thing - three band eq, bass, middle and treble. (I myself put the bass up to +2 or +3, the middle right down to -4, and the treble right up to +4. This gives the unit a nice sound).

Many, many bass settings. You can make this unit sound anywhere like a real bass boomer to a tinny transistor radio (if you turn the bass right off it really does sound like a transistor radio!).

I use my AKX50 as an alarm clock, and put my favourite albums on a USB stick.

The beauty of the USB function on this unit is when it is used in non-random track playback, it does not fall back to the start every time, but when it will turn on again it will start off from where it stopped last time. For the price I paid, I did not expect this feature...

This unit is not as loud as you may think it is.

This unit would be perfect if it had +DAB. Alas...it doesn't. The USB feature, and nice sound. No +DAB, random playback is not so random between power-ups.

Hi...I'm the original poster... I find for the USB Mp3 reader to function perfectly, you should do a clean (but quick) format of the USB stick beforehand. Otherwise a few songs here and there won't play properly, or fully. Or worse, the unit may hang and you may have to switch it off (and on again) at the mains itself to get it to start again.
