great but unsafe features – Seeing as though philips rejected this review from their web site thought i'd post here (poor form philips). Had this machine for about 4-5 years where it worked perfectly and was happy with it. Even brought one for a friend. it recently started turning itself off intermittently. Did a calc clean and it started gushing hot steaming water out every where, emptied the tank with water all over the floor before shorting out. Very unsafe with young kids around. Steam started coming out the side of the machine too. The machine would seem to work for a bit before gushing water out hot water again. I felt it was too unsafe to have in the house so got rid of it. Really would have expected it to last longer and not end up with such an unsafe malfunction.
It does not have an auto off feature if left unattended and the steam button would often stick which again are unsafe.
Never again – I would avoid this product.The GC7240 1. Has to be cleaned every 10 uses otherwise deposits rusty stained water over your clothes. You then have to carry the whole bulky unit to the sink to clean it out. 2. Have to wait for the thermostat to go off. Steam ironing while the orange thermostat light is on results in water being dispensed over clothes. Made ironing even more time consuming.
3. Not hot enough, even on maximum heat to iron out wrinkles in 100% cotton. My husbands work shirts still looked wrinkled.
4 As it got older it started leaking from other parts of the unit.

One of my favourite household purchases :) – Needed a new iron, it was on special at Target and recommended by a friend so thought I would try one having never used one before. Loved it from the moment I turned it on and it certainly has cut the ironing time down so much so I iron everything including my teatowels and my doona covers look so crease free compared to the old iron. Extremely happy with it. Smooth, does what it says in relation to cutting ironing time in half :) Not husband friendly :(
It's great! – I dont know why i waited so long to buy one love it cuts ironing time in half i brought it for david jones 3 months ago on special $200.00 dollars makes life easier a bit bulky but it is a steam generator its not for a quick touch up got a two year warranty.
Product malfunctioned and was written off by Philips. Service extremely poor. Very disappointing – GC7240 was used according to manufacturers instructions, but malfunctioned within 12 months. When steam button was accidentally touched, the iron sprayed hot steam and water, rendering it too dangerous to use. The iron leaked all over clothes, there is so much steam that water drips through the ironing board onto the floor below. Water also leaks from the cleaning outlet. Customer service is virtually non existent. Phone calls are not returned. Product took 7 weeks to service before being written off. Product was replaced with a used iron, with almost no warranty left. Totally unsatisfactory service. Avoid this product.
