Don't buy it – I changed to this food for convenience when the place i usually bought eukanuba from went out of business. Over about six weeks, my dog started to refuse this food and only eat when very hungry. If I weakened and gave her something home cooked she gobbled it up, but I didn't want a food-fussy dog so persevered with the Purina One. I stuck with this brand because i believed the hype about it being healthy and it's a well known established brand, right?. Very big mistake.

After about six weeks of experimenting the flavours, my dog rapidly got very sick, extreme weight loss, vomiting undigested food, extreme lethargy, ended up with major exploratory surgery and a whole lot of tests that showed only that she acquired severe liver damage of unknown type or cause. The only thing to do was give her a tonne of drugs and a prescription food and this had instantaneous positive results.

Purina deny all responsibility, they tested the batch and said it "was within spec" but wouldn't say what they accept as in spec regarding natural toxins in the high cereal levels in their food. While I could perhaps accept this and consider it a coincidence, a look at the consumer reports of so many dogs with the same reaction in USA (just do a web search, you'll be horrified) and the high number of associated deaths, I just cannot understand why this is available on the Aussie market.

Even if its not a classified poison or toxin (and this has not been eliminated adequately as an option) there is obviously something here that can affect a high number of dogs. My vet confirmed he has seen a number of similar cases and some deaths. Now, a year later, my dog is doing ok and I'm resigned to the fact her liver is permanently damaged from this mysterious poison and she will be on drugs to manage it for the rest of her life. Don't poison your dog with this rubbish.

Excellent – Love purina one, this dog food seems to be of high quality ingrediants and my dog loves the taste. Smells and looks good and is reasonably priced. Most purina one foods also have added vitamins as well as omega 3, you can tell after feeding the dogs coat seems so much shinier. A great product. A quality product.

Good – Is a great choice if you don't want to buy 'pet shop' premiums. Our dogs love it and both can be fussy. High quality and reasonable price. Main ingredient is Lamb...I know this may sound weird, but it IS a Lamb and Rice formula and I expect the main ingredients to be LAMB and RICE... Nothing about it at all...though Purina did discontinue the sensitive one with Salmon...
