Samsung has recalled the SW80SPWIP. For more information please go to http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1047306.
Good washing machine. Too bad it could catch on fire! – I've own this machine now for over 6 months and so far so good. It does what it promises. The lint filter works well. I mostly use the auto function (sensor) and it seems to get the job done. Recent recall on the machine hasn't dampened my ownership experience. Samsung came and checked it, then made some safely modifications and its been… Read more
business as usual.
Re: Recall - apparently some machines experienced water/moisture to get into a compartment under the top plastic cowling of the machine where some electrical wiring are plugged-in/connected. When these plastic (electric) plugs get wet, they overheat and causes them (plugs) to melt. The safety recall put a waterproof and fireproof pouch around the electrical plugs that could get wet.
On my machine, there was no sign of any water/moisture getting into the said area. But they did the modification all the same just to be safe. Price, performance, quality, user friendly Energy rating low
So far so good. Evidently a problem with fire but I did not experience this. Regardless, recently Sa – Serves an extended family of eight and runs every day several times a day and to date faultless, reliable and efficient. A quiet unobtrusive machine that gets on with the job without fuss and is reliable. I am quite happy with it and should it fail would still consider another.
SP = shody product – We have had this machine for 2.5 years. Worst buy ever. It fills again at the end of each cycle and operates continuoly from cycle to cycle. Clothes alwas come out very wet. It has happy chime sounds though. Whoever developed this terrible product should hang their head in shame.
Worst machine ever – Purchased what was explained as "the best" machine and paid more than I could have for another brand. It doesn't wash nicely, clothes don't come out clean like they used to in my old LG machine. I had my LG for a very long time until it died. This one is 2 years old, the hose just broke and flooded my laundry I am not impressed. In all the years… Read more
of owning machines I've never seen a hose that breaks on a washing machine! I certainly would not recommend Samsung to anyone!
Worst Machine – Can only say it's the worst washing machine we have used. Had a recall for possible fire hazard and was rectified but after that it played up all the time. It refills water after the final rinse every now and then and would waste unnecessary water and electricity if you are not around to monitor. It has been repaired 3 times including changing… Read more
the computer board but problem was still not solved. The Diamond Drum technology was a total failure that makes all the washing stuck together which maybe be the problem causing the repeated washing. Anyway, have to replace it with another brand.
Love the machine BUT – Love the machine but I also get the black gunk. It is the bad design of the inner tub which is plastic and is corrugated. Older machines had a smooth inner tub. Body oils, dirt from clothes get caught up in the folds of the drum as it spins and can't flush away until the machine stops and starts filing up again. My husband blew out this inner… Read more
drum with an air hose and got the gunk out but after a few more washes it collected again. Samsung needs to change the design of this inner drum. Apart from that this machine does an excellent job. Samsung won't admit to this fault and blames it on the user instead. Stopping fabric conditioner makes no difference.
Rust issue – We replaced a Fisher Paykel with this model, should have stuck with Fisher Paykel. Although the Samsung was okay initially we found that it went off balance easy with a big load. We found the machine to be okay without being anything special. We have had the machine for 4 years and noticed rust appearing along the lid join line. It may have… Read more
been there for some time without noticing it.
We purchased the machine from Harvey Norman with extended warranty so we contacted them about the rust to find that it wasn't covered under the warranty.
We contacted Samsung about the issue and were advised that it was out of Samsung warranty and was not covered by extended warranty.
I question the quality of Samsung for rust appearing within 4 years, even cars left outside last longer.
I also question the value of paying for extended warranty.
Love it more then my front loader – Only just brought this second hand and I love it, I love the fact of the filter clean every use as its better then clogging up the machine n leaving a yuk smell. I was a bit iffy on the water level at first until I realised it washes for a minute then adds more. I cannot fault it in fact I love it.
rubbish – The washing machine is useless, it leaves black blobs all over the washing the filter is useless I would never buy a samsung again and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone either. It doesnt spin dry enough washing is still quite wet when the cycle has finished I have only had the machine 2 years and am looking to buy another make nothing everything it leaves black blobs all over washing doesnt matter how much I clean the machine
Scrap metal – Should be called samsrubbish. what a disaster. apart from the fire hazard which took 3 months to fix the machine covers all the Washing in black flakes. the lid has broken off and the top cover is split in most places. now it is sticking in the spin program. cannot wait till this thing dies.
my machine also covers washing in black flakes its is very annoying especially on the white towels hard to get off the fliter is useless
Disappointed – Loved this machine initially. Then I started noticing black stuff on my finished wash. Rang Samsung and was told in no uncertain terms that if a serviceman came out and found that it was caused by misuse then my warranty would be null and void. The lady then told me to use a descaler (whatever that is) and run the clean cycle. I checked out other… Read more
reviews and guess what, this black stuff is a common problem. I now do not use the softener dispenser, cos if you read directions for using softener, it must be diluted before adding to wash. My last washing machine I had for 22 years and used to add the softener at the final rinse - never had a problem, But why has this machine got a softener dispenser - beats me. Some of the pieces of this black gunk are more than a cm long x 2cm wide. I have saved the pieces cos if this problem returns I'm going to send them to Samsung and ask them what it is. I think Samsung needs to address this problem, as this machine is not doing what it is basically supposed to do and that is - Produce clean washing. Neat looking machine and good lint collector Black gunk over finished washing
I also have black blobs all over washing cleaned the machine many times, with bleach, vinegar descaler washing soda to no avail
Love love love! – I bought this machine on sale and so far I love it. It's quiet, cleans really well and has plenty of space. The magic filter lets you know when to clean it which is great and has plenty of wash options. I'm not bothered by the light tangling at all, it's expected! And I like cleaning the filter out as I rather clean it than it clog my machine. Spacious, quiet, efficient Nothing as yet!
Excellent machine!! – This washing machine was a great buy as it runs very smoothly and is very user friendly. It has a stainless steel drum with a very delicate wash system as it has no agitator. It is very energy and water efficient and has a child lock function which is very handy Great family size, water efficient, inexpensive, reliable

Know better, choose better.
Very impressive machine – Like most people, I researched pretty thoroughly before settling on a machine, and chose this one for a number of reasons. I DO like the fact that there's no agitator, (having had issues with them in the past), it's large capacity, it's stability and the fuzzy logic programming. Although some clothes do come out lightly tangled, it's not a big… Read more
issue when you balance that against the quality of the wash and ease of use. Our last machine was a 20 yo Simpson, but as it continually unbalanced the load and was not washing properly, it had to go as repairs were too expensive to warrant.
New Simpsons and Whirlpools are bagged mercilessly on the internet, so I wasn't going to choose them!
We've now had the unit for 6 months, and so far it has performed faultlessly, washing everything from delicates to queen doonas without a hitch. The average daily wash for our household of 6 involves the pushing of 3 buttons - quick and easy, and the quick wash cycle seems to work well in most cases. Ease of use and sturdy construction. As mentioned elsewhere, it won't hang my clothes on the line!
Worst Machine ever – I hate this machine. The lint filter needs to be emptied almost every time the machine is used. Most times clothes come out with black dirt on them - which can only be removed when the clothes are dry. Cycles take for ever and I find I have to always monitor the water level and reset it as it never senses the correct level. Clothes are always tied together and takes ages to unload for this reason inefficient, time waster, doesnt clean well
Burn your money instead – There is nothing good about this machine. The standard setting rinses twice which wastes water. If you want it to rinse only once the only way is to manually set it every single time you wash, or to use the quick cycle, which does not wash as long. There is not woolen cycle and the delicate cycle washes in cold only. It cannot handle anything more… Read more
than light clothes or sheets without unbalancing. When it unbalances during a wash cycle, it just fills up again on an almost unending cycling wasting water, rather than beeping and stopping. If you dont care how much power and water the machine uses maybe it's just not a great machine, if you are on limited water, get a chair and a book and be prepared to babysit it anytime you want to wash towels or a blanket so it doesn't waste all your water. Even then when it unbalances and starts fillling up with water without having spun out, you have to manually set it to spin, wait for than, then manually set it rinse, wait for that, because it will unbalance again, and supervise while it finished the load. How did they get it so wrong??
is the machine level? that could be causing your unbalance issues
Not worth it – It does not seem to wash the clothes well unless you use hot water mode for an hour. At the end of the rinse cycle, the clothes look like a tangled mess with lint all over the dark clothes. The lint filter seems to only work if you use the normal one hour cycle. If you use any other wash cycle less than an hour, it does not filter the lint and… Read more
goes back to your clothes. The filter is also pretty flimsy. The filter hinge broke after a couple of months and now a year later it's completely useless. I have been washing the clothes without it and it looks the same. This washing machine also makes a loud, weird sound.
For last years price of $700, it should have been $300 for the quality.
I love this machine, it's so easy to use – I bought this samsung SW80SP just over 3 months ago, I wash every day and can't really find any faults.I love the compact size with the large 8kg capacity, not having a central agitator is wonderful, so far the lint filter is an efficient little thing that is very easy to click in and out, and the little light on the front to remind you to clean… Read more
it is nice.It has a good range of wash cycles and everything is straight forward and easy to do, the little tune at the end of the wash cycle is very cute too. The instructions on how to load your clothes into the machine were a little bizzare as they didn't include jeans or work pants and I can't imagine washing all those things together anyhow.I've also stopped putting powder in the dispenser as sometimes it just ended up as a hard lump of detergent left in the dispenser depending on the brand, the mist shower did help a bit with this. It is a good priced machine, with a big capacity in a compact size, the water rating is fantastic as we are on rain water. Water hammer is a problem that we'll have to get fixed and I do cover it with a towel as it seems as if it would scratch easily, the energy rating looks dismal but I don't think it's an issue if you only wash in cold water (I do)
Fantastic machine for a family – I did so much research looking for a top loader and am just soooo happy with this machine, i really cant believe my luck. I love the fast cycle of 30 mins that cleans things very well, or if you want a bit longer the fuzzy cycle is 50 mins. The spin speed is perfect as it dosent ruin your clothes like the really fast speeds of 1400 rpm, i think… Read more
its about 800rpm.
The lint filter is great, so easy to clean and the machine reminds you when to empty it. The detergent dispenser is fine, some people have whinged about it but i found it very easy to use, plus you always have the choice to just sprinkle the powder straight onto the clothes, it makes no difference. I use this machine every day and the size is more than enough for a family of four, I always separate my darks and lights so it hasnt been full yet. I also can do king size sheet set, doona cover, fitted sheet, 4 pilowcases and more could still fit. This top loader is a winner for me, so good not having to bend down (i previously had a front loader) and i always miss something but can now add it after the machine has started. Fast cycle, large 8kg tub but small and compact, no agitator, easy to use,
Excellent machine! – This machine is wonderful, does what a washing machine should which is clean clothes. Have had the machine for almost 2 years now and has not missed a beat. The magic filter is really magic and the amount of lint it traps is staggering. Black items come out black with no annoying fluff. The variety of programs means you can select the right… Read more
wash for most items or you can manually select the wash, rinse and spin times if you'd prefer. To address some issues ive seen in other reviews. If you run the clean tub function with some dishwasher powder it cleans all the gunk out that can accumulate and get on your clothes (i run it every 2 months). If the magic filter breaks (it is rather flimsy) you can order them cheap off ebay. And if you don't overfill the fabric softener dispenser it works perfectly everytime. very impressed, only Samsung washers for me if this one ever dies. Fast, economical, easy to use.
Recommended for single use only - Do not use fabric softener in this machine – This washing machine is not suitable for family or even couple use. If you generally have 3 or 4+ loads per week, opt for a different model. The quick wash setting is great if your washing is barely dirty. If you have fairly soiled washing, you will be waiting for hours for the wash to finish because you will have no choice but to use a longer… Read more
setting to get the desired wash.
The timer is also inaccurate. It will tell you 50 minutes for example, however it will exceed this time.
This washing machine does not dilute fabric softener at all. It ruined alot of my clothes when i first started using it, and found the only way i can use fabric softener is if i add it in the drum (not the dispenser) and wait for the drum to fill with water then add the clothes last. Quick wash is good for very small loads not requiring heavy washing. Small and compact. Poor performance, fabric softener dispenser is not functional, timer is inaccurate
Great machine for a busy family – I have always had Hoover machines (25 years+), but since my last machine finally died and flooded half my house, it was time for a new reliable washing machine. After much research and time spent on the internet and telephone, I finally decided on a Samsung washing machine. It does not have a central agitator and I read that clothes get more… Read more · 2
tangled than those with an agitator. It is not really an issue or problem. Shirts and pants do get cosy, but they are washed very gently and I am very happy with the selection of washing programs to choose from. The fuzzy cycle is the one I mostly use, and it does the job well every time. The machine even has a tub wash program which is great in keeping the machine fresh and running at optimum performance. The mist shower function disperses the washing powder evenly over the wash load and I now don't have the dreaded white residue on clothes.
Washing time is greatly reduced and I just love having the lint filter which is easily accessible to clean after each wash. The musical tune that signals the end of the wash cycle makes it impossible to forget that the washload is ready to take out. (no excuse from the boys, that they didn't know the wash was finished !!)
The spin cycle is very gentle and really quiet. I don't have the rattle and rumble of a machine that spins like crazy all over the floor. It is very civilised and does the job quickly and efficiently.
The 8kg size handles many sheets. towels and clothes. I now only have to do 2 leads a week rather than every second day.
I have had the machine for 5 months now and am very happy with it. A great machine that you only have to set and forget. It makes life in our household much easier. Very quiet and gentle on clothes. Programmed wash cycles are quick and efficient. Not able to program warm wash and cold rinse at the start. Must be manually set after wash cycle starts.
Great little Machine – So far it has been great, easy to use Program guide and washes the clothes well, it has a reminder light to clean the filter and a place to put the powder, Love the quirky song letting me know my load has finished, it runs pretty quiet as well. Also like the many different wash load levels, I easily washed my large Mink blanket in the machine and there is more space without a agitator. Inexpensive and looks great
