So disappointed in this dishwasher!!! – So disappointed in this dishwasher!!! The dishes come out with residue most days and feel so dirty still- that’s after over an hour of being washed on the hottest setting! It makes me feel sick thinking about all the dirt and grime so I have to hand wash them again each time. I’ve tried every dish tab but it’s definitely the dishwasher itself. If they improve it could be useless – Stops in the middle of a cycle. Does not wash top shelf properly. Only works on hottest setting. Takes for ever to wash dishes. Inferior product, inbuilt obsolescence and extortionate price to repair! – We purchased this product in May 2014 from Harvey Norman for $500. company (licensed in the repair of Smeg appliances)to source the part required to repair our dishwasher (this was the price the company was quoted by Smeg and doesn’t include the cost to install the component).

This is completely unacceptable that a Smeg product will cost double the original purchase price of the dishwasher to repair, not to mention how unfeasible it is. For a large company such as Smeg, I believe they have an ethical responsibility to the environment to produce products that won’t break after 4 years, and in most cases, be replaced with a new dishwasher, resulting in the old product being sent to landfill. It is not unreasonable to expect that a high purchase product such as a dishwasher lasts at least 10 years of regular use, before it requires the replacement of major components. Smeg Australia’s website says they “offer premium quality domestic appliances”, however, from our experience it produces products with inbuilt obsolescence. We opted to purchase a Smeg dishwasher over other leading brand dishwashers due to Smeg’s reputation for quality products however, this has left a bad taste in our mouth regarding Smeg products.

At 5 years it requires a Main PCB. $375 wholesale! What a Rip Off – At the price of the machine you would expect 10 years operation particularly when it is only catering to 2 people. We have been very pleased with the washing capability of the machine but be aware of Smeg’s RIP OFF mentality.

Ripoff – Purchased 2 years ago. Electronics died, replacement part is $400 plus $125 callout, plus $120/hr for however long they are here fixing the unit. All of this adds up to more than the cost of a brand new better quality replacement. A whitegood should last more than two years. No wonder it's a discontinued model. Eventually after us blowing our stack Smeg sent a technician up from Sydney with a new machine after the company who were engaged to do the repairs, under warranty, tried to fob a second hand one onto us, as a new one, when they were unable to repair the original machine. I have never been satisfied with this machine, which has again broken down, and will NEVER purchase another Smeg appliance as long as I live.

Overall great dishwasher – Is overall a great machine (was in house when we purchased home), since owning have only had to call technician once. However, it has just started to not clean the top rack items? Anyone else have this problem? again. A month later still no response. I again contacted Smeg and asked for details of the agent so that I could avoid the fool and received no response from Smeg. It is taking up valuable space and needs either to be fixed or thrown in the tip. To remove it will take some work so if removed one of the 2 options will occur and the space better utilised in the event it is chucked out. Expensive useless facade at the moment. My only satisfaction is in knowing I would never buy a Smeg product of any kind. This POS just happened to be in the house and was used as a selling point.

the hottest cycle, it leaves residue on all glasses, dishes need to be rinsed before loading otherwise it leaves things on plates, and its now stopped draining. And its only 2.5 years old. This is not what you expect from a "premium brand", but reading the reviews, most people are saying the same thing about SMEG...the quality and reliability just isn't good. Stick to what you are good at and stop making dishwashers.

very happy with the service – The Smeg dishwasher DWA 149S , purchased just over 4 years ago, is very quiet and cleans the dishes perfectly. I am particularly happy with the service Smeg provides. Steve Cullen (the sales manager) could not have been more obliging in providing a new 'spray arm' foc when the dishwasher suffered a bit of a glitch recently. Very dissatisfied – My smeg dishwasher is four years old and efficient for two years until it started leaking, dishes weren't clean. Paid $147 only to be told needed $450 circuit board. Can't justify these outrageous costs. Will never recommend smeg, so disappointed in this supposedly high end product. I expected a better deal.

Very Disappointed about local service – Fault code does even appear in the book! The unit is out of warranty, I ring up a service centre for advise on what the problem could be. And there response was how much they charge for a call out and they will bill me for every 15 minutes they spend there. All i want to know is what the fault means, I will never be installing a full Smeg kitchen again.

Thankfully i took out the extended warrenty and I think once that is up, my smeg dishwasher will go the tip where it belongs. I will never purchase a smeg appliance again! complaining about. It always left residue and some plates were never cleaned. Coffee cups would always need to be rewashed. It stopped working 1 month out of warrenty i looked into getting it fixed but it cost nearly as much as a new dishwasher! Then it miraculously started working again 2-3 days later. Well now it has gone again and it's not matching any of the error codes in the manual. It starts and pumps water for a bit then beeps and flashes. This machine is 4 years old and we use it once a week. I will not be buying a smeg again and I will definitly be doing my research in the future. Very dissapointed.

Dissapointed – Have brought this dishwasher in July 2013 and 2 years later now it is not cleaning properly.It is just out of warranty too, am so unhappy as I thought I would buy Smeg as it was considered a really good brand. I will know in the future NEVER to buy Smeg again. From day 1 we had to use the longest cycle possible to clean as I found the shorter cycles would not clean properly, now that cycle is not working properly.

Do not buy Smeg products – Bought my DWA149S dishwasher on the 05/07/2013. ONLY 10 days after expiring the warranty, it stopped working. advise of the charges. It will be at least $99 for the technician to come over and have a look and then the labor and parts for the repair will be quoted separately.

Why this should happen for an expensive Italian made product? Has it been designed to work only for two years or probably designed to fail just after two years of initial warranty. WILL NEVER EVER BUY AN SMEG PRODUCT AGAIN.

Very disappointed with the product and service.

July 19th 2016 Update: Not a happy customer

After a year of contacting SMEG and Wood Enterprise in QLD, and at least 5 visits from SMEG technician, the dishwasher still doesn't work.

Wood Ent and SMEG refuse to reply to my emails anymore.

Spend your money somewhere else where there is more responsibility and care.

July 20th 2016 Update: Not a happy customer

I wrote a review about this product a year ago. I was contacted by SMEG and offered to fix the issue. During the past 12 months, their technician has come to our place several times without the ability to fix the issue. Still same problem exists. SMEG and their local partner refuse to respond to the emails.

Spend your money with responsible people who care about you and their own brand.

Unfortunately I have no choice but to wear it, as the tenants have a right to have it fixed.

I'm really unhappy - SMEG used to be a top brand and I should expect only minimal issues for the first few years, not something major like this.

I am about to do my kitchen at my own home - I won't be using SMEG appliances

EDIT: I actually had a very good service experience from SMEG after posting this review - the company responded really quickly to my complaint, and I felt very well supported by them. Although I cant recommend the actual product, the service received was excellent.

Will never buy Smeg again!!! – Nothing but trouble. Only had it for 3 years and would expect the machine being a Smeg with a good name to last longer. nothing worked. We now can't even use the top shelf unless the cups are pretty much clean to start with...Even the left over cardboard specs in brand new cups wasn't cleaned off the cups when washed on the top shelf. Not happy and will never buy anything Smeg ever again :(

Further to my previous review regarding issues with the door of our dishwasher I am pleased to advise that Smeg has offered to repair the door. Very impressed with their level of after sales customer service and all credit to Smeg for attending to this very promptly.

Expected more for the price – I've had cheaper dishwashers that were better. In fact I've only had one dishwasher that was worse. Cleaning is bearly adequate. Drying is OK. Noise isn't too bad but it's not too good either. The top tray doesn't work well for our glasswear, and the bottom tray regularly tips forward causing dishes to spill out of their places. It's not quite bad enough to make me buy a new one before it dies. Fortunatley we've just built so I can justify getting something else for the new place.

Very Disapointing – Not sure why I have a dishwasher when I have to thoroughly rinse everything before it goes into the dishwasher. I have had problems with the swing arms splitting and this then reduces the water pressure. I agree that stacking is a problem, the glasses fall over and the knives fall out when you move the shelves in and out. I wouldn't buy a smeg again after this experience.

showed me a fairly large piece of glass that was stooping the pump from working. Then a few weeks later the washer stopped working, again. The serviceman said that there was something stuck in the pump, again, but didn't show me what it was. Now for the third time it has stopped working. Again! We rinse everything off first and have only had the one breakage. I have had many dishwashers over the years and never had problems like this. Serious flaw in the filter?? Or is it just that there is a design flaw in the pump! Interesting to read about all the problems with Smeg anti-flood mechanism. Third call out in a few months and takes at least a week to get an appointment. Thought Smeg was a quality brand. Ready to dump it on the tip. Have my old Dishlex back in a second!

Stops regularly, have to call out tradesman, have to wait at least a week, have to be home for the day when tradie comes.

At first glance it has a very fresh and striking appearance – On further inspection and touch and feels quiet flimsy. It does have ajustable hieght tray but is not as user freindly as some. main fault is with the racks. There is a lot of double handling because the items are constantly falling off the shelves i.e. the main shelf for cups and mugs and glasses on the top shelf. So I may have a few items in there neatly stacked on the shelf, and every time you open the door and pull the rack out, they all topple over. So there is a major fault in the spacing of the "tynes" of the racks (I am not sure what you would call them) but let's compare them with the tynes of a fork which are too wide for the food you put on it. This may sound like a minor fault, but let me tell you that you end up constantly propping the stuff back up again and then you end up stacking it in a certain order i.e. propping stuff up with other crockery so that it doesn't keep falling over. It was a bloody pain when my inlaws were here 2 weeks after the dishwasher was installed because 4 people were sticking stuff in there and every time it was opened, everything toppled over resulting in quite a few breakages of glasses. OKay – The door is very stiff to open and push closed, hoping that over time this will get better. I agree with other comments regarding the wire racks, have broken a few glasses and getting pretty tired of having to rearrange things all the time. Bought this to replace a Westinghouse.
