Lasted 9 years – The dishwasher came with the house. Like another reviewer, very early on, the plastic peeled off. However, we've gotten 9 good years out of it. Since about a week ago, the power wouldn't come on. The first time, it had a whole load of dishes inside, so that was a chore. I debated whether to call the guy out and eventually did (it would have cost… Read more
$165 for call out and plus $33 or something for every 15 minutes). However, old Smeggie decided to turn on the very morning of the call out when I had cleared the cupboard in preparation for the technician to have a look. We got another fortnight's usage out of it. Last night, I heard something pop and it failed to switch on again. Probably something loose but would be too pricey to fix. I reckon it's time. Overall, have been happy the SMEG.
7 years old & still going! – Bought all smeg appliances for our new home 7 years ago. Dishwasher has had minor problems which we were able to reset ourselves. Great dishwasher. Not sorry I purchased it. Have a beautiful smeg double door fridge and huge smeg ceramic cooktop/oven. They are great also. Would definitely recommend these appliances. Show details
Excellent. Just what one would expect from SMEG – Brilliant dishwasher. I totally disagree with the post that slams this appliance. I fit all my dishes and pots in the bottom and load all of the top with glasses and Tupperware. Stack it how Smeg say and use a good quality deterg and rinse aid and it will be one of the best dishwashers that you would ever own. Very quiet. Fits loads in it. Love… Read more · 1
the adjustable shelf and all of the cutlery baskets. Has been a great item. Nothing wrong with it. Good quality Smeg item. I have a full Smeg kitchen and would not trade any of for the world.

Utter rubbish, don't waste your money – I paid extra for a 'Smeg' brand dishwasher over an never-heard-of-brand because of Smeg's reputation. This was a mistake. Yes, when it washed the dishes, it washed them perfectly well. I scrape but don't rinse, and it was easy enough to clean out when necessary. But to get it to actually work was onerous - first, the door was difficult to open… Read more
and shut, and broke nails on a regular basis. Often the top drawer's water spray bar got caught in the bottom drawer as I pulled the bottom drawer out, and I'm surprised it didn't break. The cutlery tray was clunky. The top drawer seemed slightly misaligned to its water outlet port and needed a delicate 'jiggle' to get it to sit right. The operating buttons on the front were small, difficult to press in (especially with long nails) and needed a usually hard amount of pressure to be kept on them. The 'beep' to tell you it had accepted the cycle took an uncomfortably long time after holding in the 'start' button.
And yes, the 'normal' cycle was about two hours, and it was quite noisy.
These are design flaws, but mere niggles in comparison to the main problem I had.
Within a year, it started to have issues. There was clearly something wrong with the motherboard, but no error message was given. It had to be turned off and on again for every load, as it wouldn't necessarily start back up again if I just left it on. Sometimes, I had to clear either (or both) the 'delayed start' and the 'half load' options before I could get it to accept a 'start' command. Sometimes I had to cycle through the programs to get it to get to accept the 'start' command. Sometimes it started after a four-button 'reset' but sometimes it didn't. Most infuriatingly, it would sometimes sound like it had accepted the 'start' command with a 'beep' and a change in the lights, then do nothing and go back to 'finished cycle' moments later. The most reliable (but not 100% guaranteed) way of getting a load out of it was to turn it off, unplug it, and leave it for a week, but that isn't a practical use for a family dishwasher.
A replacement motherboard and the technician to do the work was going to cost more than a new dishwasher.
So thats what I did - got a new dishwasher.
The new dishwasher is not a Smeg.

Worst appliance ever – Dishwasher is terrible, shortest cycle is close to 2 hours! has tripped our power so many times that it blew our safety switch and we had to have it replaced. It's finally died after being "repaired" multiple times and the landlords have agreed to replace it. I have requested they don't purchase another smeg if they want to save themselves hassle in the long run. What a piece of junk. If i could give less than one star i would. Show details
Broken after 3 years and 800 dollars to replace power control board – Very very unhappy with this brand. Brought in Nz for our new house and has only lasted 3 years. Shocked I would expect a brand of this quality to last longer then this. Will not be buying this brand ever again as our other smeg kitchen appliance lasted less then this also. Show details

12 years and still going strong, not perfect though – Our house was built 12 years ago and the kitchen was fitted with all SMEG appliances. I actually looked up this model dishwasher because the ON button (plastic) broke and I am looking for a replacement. But I have read a lot of really bad reviews here. This has not been my experience. We did have a bloke out once (not a smeg fellow) and he was… Read more
only $100 or so to get it going and that was some time back. I thought I should give credit where it is due - all of my SMEG appliances have had no faults (double oven/griller, gas cooktop and the dishwasher), except that one fault on the dishwasher (and now the broken ON button which I think is pretty minor). I do dislike the cycle time, yes around 2 hours from memory. I agree with the comments about sometimes having to cycle through the programs even more than once before you can start one. It seems to be a random bug. But I asked the repair man what he thought about my dishwasher and he said to keep the older ones as long as you can. The newer ones are blowing computers pretty regularly, even expensive brands, and the parts are just unbelievably expensive he said. I often find it helpful to ask someone who repairs things what they find to be the best brands. My SMEG dishwasher has a WHITE front, not stainless steel. I don't have any coating coming off. If I did I would not be pleased about that.
Functionally good, suffers from rust forming on stainless steel and causing clear coat to peel – I moved into a rental with this dishwasher about 5 years ago. It's served me well and required little in the way of unclogging or other functionality issues, however it has a major weak point in the construction of its front face plate which as many others above have pointed out, has a very fragile clear coat which slowly peels off. Also in some… Read more
spots near the buttons small rust spots appear to be forming under the clear. When I first moved in these spots were only slight however as time goes on they are developing to be quiet unsightly.
I've only ever cleaned it with paper towel and a bench spray.
Overall it's served me well, however I fear this poor clear coat / rustproofing will cost me dearly when it comes time to get my bond back.
Incredible service – I moved into a house with a range of SMEG appliances. Unfortunately the dishwasher was not working after it had sat unused for many years. I had a appliance repair man look at it and he said it was not worth fixing. I contacted SMEG service, and Steve Cullen sent a team out to fix it, at no cost! Considering I didn't buy it, it was a 10 year… Read more
old dishwasher, well out of warrantee, and had broken due to dust builiding up inside after many years of sitting unused... this is service beyond the norm.
It's now working perfectly, like a new dishwasher.
Now I have a house full of awesome Smeg appliances and I could not be happier.
Peeling plastic on front door is so unsightly! – We purchased a beautiful Smeg dishwashwer after our kitchen was renovated and shortly after some kind of plastic layer over the control panel in the door started peeling! Now the top of the front of the dishwasher is peeling too. It's so unsightly and disappointing in an otherwise beautiful appliance that works very well. Show details

I note this product is discontinued - good !! – Not sure if other models are better but it is a very cheap placticy type of product. The door handle is dodgy and takes some playing with to enable it to click in place so the programs work. That broke / failed to work properly in the 1st year (7 years old now). are clean and the hose not "kinked" (seeing as haven't moved it in 2 years) likely have a pump issue costing for an hour $215 dollars (plus part of about $180 so nearly 1/2 cost of the product. Just not worth it.
Per SMEG service "$125.00 service call out fee including the first 15 minutes (ex GST), $30.00 per 15 minutes and thereafter (exGST), This does not include parts."
Very disappointed as this was brand new when we moved into this house. Would not recommend SMEG both for the cheap product and for the excessive cost to repair.
Simply the worst – So unreliable, works so poorly and so many issues. Only a few years old and not a lot of use. Hugely disappointing - won't start a cycle, racks fall out. Lights come on, tries to work then just stops dead in its tracks. We bought SMEs for our whole kitchen and it seems it may all need replacing Show details
SMEG dishwasher – we have had this dishwasher for 3 years and it just stopped . after the technician charged us $150 to look at it he said it was the power board and would cost nearly $500 plus installation . SMEG have a great name and due to this we have filled our whole kitchen with their appliances , we are now a little worried .

Very disappointed Smeg Purchase – I have just experienced the smeg dishwasher has no power, when we just reloaded it and wanted to start a cycle. From what Im reading I have just lodged a service call which will cost $125 plus $30 every 15 min thereafter. It seems the power board is the problem? If so that costs $400 + from the reviews, Im thinking to cancel the service call and… Read more
just go and buy a new one. This one cost me $800 back in 2011, not even 5 years old. I thought Smeg was good brand, it seems not the case with this model dishwasher. Very disappointed indeed. Oh I forgot to mention door handle went in the 1st year I think as well.

Great after sales service! – Having recently experienced door handle issues with this dishwasher and reading reviews of the same problem , I thought before unleashing on Smeg I would give them the opportunity to assist. Whilst I am not impressed with the actual dishwasher , I can not fault the after sale service I received. Within an hour of emailing my issues , I received a response and offer to make good. In this day , you can't get better than that ! Thanks Smeg .
Disappointing quality, very high repair cost – I'm not after free repair service by leaving this review. Simply warning you the reader to stay away from this product. for that aspect. Diagnoses was the main PCB & heater element needed to be replaced. While at it would also replace the very poor quality door handle which broke the week before. The buttons are poor quality as well, repaired these myself just out the warranty period.
The repair quote of parts and labour came in over $700, that is excluding the call out fee of a $100 to asses the problem. Surely no one would consider paying that!? So we are buying a different brand dishwasher as a result.
• Design looks great!
• Service great!
• Quality disappointingly poor!
• Value for money, no
If you still consider buying a Smeg dishwasher I recommend getting the extended warranty to a minimum 5 years, wait buy 7 years if even possible.

The best appliance out the lot has thus far been the Smeg built in oven.

Looks great but beware of stainless steel finish – We renovated our kitchen 4 years ago and installed a full range of Smeg appliances, we even bought a Smeg fridge and a bar fridge and microwave to match. panel had started peeling off, so it was looking pretty terrible. I read all the manuals which only said to use non abraisive products suitable for painted surfaces, which I was using, so overall, I was pretty disappointed in the lack of quality for a pretty expensive product. Initially I thought I'd have to pay an arm and a leg to get the products repaired with new control panels but after contacting head office, they agreed to replace the parts and I only had to pay for labour which I thought was pretty fair.
I have to say the service and prompt response I received from everyone at Smeg in responding to my issue was fantastic, and I was impressed with how quickly my issue was resolved. I would recommend if you have this product to be VERY careful with how you clean it, only use warm water and a soft cloth, as the coating is obviously extremely sensitive.
The product looks smart and functions seem to work well - just be careful of the stainless steel quality and it's resilience.
So disappointed with the quality – I put in a new kitchen mid 2011 and purchased all Smeg appliances based on reputation. Within the first month of use the start button broke and fell out. This was replaced several times without fuss but it kept breaking. I now use the end of a wooden spoon to turn it on. like everyone elses has broken also the clear coat protection over the stainless has peeled off and don't get me started on the bottom tray. It is that flimsy that the minute it has weight in it, it falls straight off the runners the wheels run along and Smeg was supposed to be a premium brand. It will be cheaper for me to purchase a new machine rather than fix.

Door Handle broken again – We bought a Smeg Dishwasher Rangehood and Stove five years ago. The door handle has now broken for the second time. First time fixed and replaced under warranty. Warranty has just expired. Call Out will cost $98 and time is charged in intervals of ten minutes at $27 per interval, plus parts, plus gst. This appears to be a design fault as so many people have had the same problem. Very unhappy!

So many problems! – Wow, so many people having the same problems as me. This really is the worst dishwasher I've ever used. also repeatedly experienced errors which are poorly explained in the user manual, and following the instructions produces no solution. There are no instructions on how to completely reset the machine, and so we just continue to wash by hand until we get sick of that and eventually give the machine a go again. Most of the time, it won't work, but sometimes sporadically it'll just operate like expected for a couple of times. After that, it's back to being inoperable again.
Really disappointed by the quality of this machine. When we're ready to spec our kitchen in our new house, I certainly won't be considering SMEG appliances.
(Addendum: about 4 months ago we moved to another apartment in the same complex and have had no problems with an identical machine. This doesn't change the fact that it is very poorly designed dishwasher which requires very careful placement of items to ensure that the machine will work).
Regrettably, the SMEG oven in this apartment does not work properly, and the time/display flashes after every use. The display actually just stops working while using the oven, then starts flashing once the oven is turned off. The same oven in the previous apartment worked well, but it seems we just can't get two SMEG appliances to work in the same apartment.
Faulty door handle - design fault – I've had this dishwasher for 4 years, I bought all my appliances from SMEG (including stove top, range hood and oven). Design fault in Door handle – this dishwasher was installed in all the apartments in my block - I understand that the handle on the door has failed in about 1/3 to 1/2 of the apartments - including mine. It makes opening the door very difficult and aesthetically it is a disaster. Now it seems the part is unavailable. SMEG should replace the dishwasher due to this design fault and I would like to hear from SMEG about this issue.

Worlds Worst Dishwasher – We brought this dishwasher about 4 years ago, unfortunately it has never worked properly. (Hence me writing this review I am buying a new dishwasher as we can't stand it any longer). Clearly a man designed this product! – We have only installed this dishwasher a week ago, but already can see issues that are not explained in the showroom. Firstly, the kickboard is a nightmare to install, but we have finally figured it out. Not ideal! have time to adjust the shelves every time you load depending on what your putting in, to a male it seems fine. I was sold on the top cutlery tray but while it's convenient, it's impractical if you have wine glasses to load. There seems to be only one spot to put normal sized dinner plates, even then you need to raise the tray above I order for the spray arm to swing around! Having said all that, it's quiet, the cycles make sense, just try a couple till you find what's suits your load.

Is there less than one star as a rating? – Bought a DWAI149X less than 12 months ago and it has been revolting. Had twin draw before and was magnificent. Doesn't clean dishes well and now to add insult to injury, the door has decided to stop closing - literally have tried everything to close and nothing works. Now have dishwasher full of plates etc and have to pull out and wash. Grrrrr!!!!!! Don't buy Smeg!
Poor Quality Product – Thsi product was fine while it worked but unfortunately broke down not long out of warranty. Not what you would expect from a product made by Smeg. After having a technician look at the dishwasher it was revealed that the PCB board needed replacing. Unfortunately the cost of the board plus labour was going to amount to half the cost of a new unit.Extremely disappointed with this product and a 1 star rating is over generous.

Bad Dishwasher! – I have had this dishwasher for 2 years, and I've hated it for about 2 years! My main pet peeve is that my plates don't actually fit in it. on the way past. This drives us mad. Since the top tray has been angled, it's worn unevenly and now the top arm fails to rotate as it gets stuck on the it's own water supply mechanism. Another $100 to replace it. I should have just kept my broken Fisher & p, as it worked way better. It's stainless steel. Doesn't wash properly, trays are not practical and it makes a noise and damages my plates.
Worst Dishwasher I have ever owned – This is by far the worst dishwasher I have ever owned which is disappointing given the sense of quality I expected from the “Smeg” brand. 1. The cutlery tray does not fit securely anywhere within the dishwasher 2. The cutlery tray dividers do not stay locked down and fall over, leaving one section of the cutlery tray useless. 3. The top rack… Read more
is poorly designed. Nothing stands up properly, items have to be widely spaced to ensure thorough washing, and they crash over during both loading and washing meaning that everything gets chipped and/or broken.
4. The roller wheels on the top shelf get stuck and do not glide smoothly. At times the whole shelf falls out to the ground when pulled forward!
5. The door opener broke after a few uses and needs to be forcefully opened and slammed closed. It works fine, but doesn’t sit flat anymore.
6. Dirt and grime collects around the base of the door and needs to be cleaned with a cloth after each wash to stop it from smelling
7. The kick panel is loose and flimsy.
Everything as listed above
Terrible – Very disappointed. I have only owned this for 8 weeks and have already sold it on ebay and lost money on it. I do not think the set out has been well thought out or tested. Does not turn itself off. Does not clean crockery well. Does not allow most of our plates and bowls to stand properly and therefore you can only put in a very limited number of bowls etc at a time or it doesn't wash well. Top shelf is only adjustable on one side. Does not hold our medium size glasses securley and they fall over. Cutlery holder does not sit properly and falls over all the time. You cannot see where it is up to in the cycle.
Terrible – Extremely dissappointed with this dishwasher and the ebay suggestion is looking good, I also purchased it recently. The racks are useless, dishes continually falling over, the cultery basket also doesn't fit. And finally the dishes come out DIRTY. I'll never purchase a SMEG product again. There isn't any. Far too many, Jessmie has listed most of them.
Huge disappointment from high end brand – Purchased approx 3 months ago and will be replacing numerous pieces of crockery and most glassware. Unbelievable poor design for both racks. Top rack doesn't hold any item properly. We are a family with young children so everything goes in. Our medium glasses and mugs all fell over and most have chipped. There is no place for odd items,… Read more
plastics for example fall all over the rack. The manual says glassware and ceramics should not touch, however there is nothing to keep them in place or secure. Each time you close the drawer, more items fall over.
The bottom rack, as previously mentioned has was appears to be a lot of spaces, however we have found that you can only put a plate in every second or they don't wash properly. This limits the amount of dishes you can place. We tried raising the top rack (one side only) to allow for the height of our (reasonable/medium) plates, but this a) meant the other side of the plates hit the wash arm (and chipped) and all the items on the top rack fell over.
The cutlery drawers do not fit securely in any position - and we have tried them all - top and bottom racks.
I can't believe the number of times I have washed a whole load of dishes - this doesn't make for a happy mum of small children!
This dishwasher appears to be made for many small wine glasses and small dinner plates. Certainly not built for a family or medium size items, which I would think most people have these days!!!
