I knew I wasn’t imagining it! This product has recently changed. We have been using this product daily for over 21yrs since starting a family. We have always loved the scent (blue bottle). We use it for every wash…on all of our garments and linen. I’ve noticed stiffer scrub uniforms and trousers, our blacks are bleaching and looking aged and… Read more
washed out, and our towels are stiff with powdery residue feel. I am very particular with my laundry and I am seriously going to have to rethink my laundry detergent moving forward. Please consider going back to the original product recipe, which was superior.
I have used Softly for over 20 years with no problems. Over the last few years I’ve noticed that new towels have become hard and not fluffy as they use to be. I will no longer use this inferior product. Show details
Awful – This version of softly is inferior to the original product! Did the company actually do any product testing with their customers after they changed the formula? The smell isn’t the same and quality isn’t as good. Very disappointing. I’ve used softly for years because it smelt great and didn’t smell like eucalyptus, like Martha’s. Why do manufacturers think everyone wants their woollens to smell of eucalyptus? Show details
Bring back the original Blue bottle! – Yes, agree with other comments on here. New formula is terrible both the clean and smell. The blue bottle was definitely the best and the smell was lovely on the woolens which I miss. Show details
Not the Same as the original Softley in any way – So disappointed in the new softly wool wash . Wont be buying it any more Nothing like the old formula Smells bad and don’t wash anywhere near the same . Show details
Bring back original fragrance please – I loved the perfume of the old Softly in the blue bottle. Loved the smell of the woollens washed in it. Unfortunately the new perfumes smell awful. Like toilet air freshener. Bring back the original fragrance please! Show details
Really disappointing – After 45 years of using Softly for woollens I was confronted by a green bottle, (the original blue stating to use the new green formula for wool). One whiff and it went back on the supermarket shelf! What a foul concoction! I bought neither and opted for another brand. Show details
Acidic Smell – I absolutely agree with others on this site. The re-jigged Softly does not smell good, and after years of use I, too, will be looking for something else. Can only assume the product research has fallen over. Show details
Bring back the original/classic Softly woollen wash – I have been searching for the old blue Softly for woollens - impossible. Unfortunately, the new one smells terrible. Please bring back the option to buy the original blue One. This has been the lovely smell of freshly washed woollen jumpers for years. Thanks Show details
Why change a good thing – New softly doesn’t smell nice. Please bring back the original in the blue bottle. My mum has used it for 25 years and now she is disappointed with this new formula. Not happy Jan… Show details
Terribly disappointed – The new softly is horrible, nasty smell and harsh on woollens. Won’t be buying again. Why change it? Have used the original for years. The new product is terrible.Switch back to Original. Show details
New version Softly – I have been using original Softly for years. If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it. New version is awful. Fragrance was important when washing woollens to disguise the wool smell. The new version does not do that. Very disappointed.
Softly formula - changed for the worse – Used Softly every day for 30 years but now the formula has changed my clothes smell synthetic & nasty - won’t be buying again unless they change it back. No idea why companies change products when they acquire them - surely you want to keep your customer base. VERY disappointed. Show details

Not the same product - will not buy again! – Used the eucalyptus wool wash when it was matha’s and wouldn’t think of using anything else. However since this changed to softly it’s been terrible. The clothes seem to come out smelling horrible, whereas before they smelled wonderful - even the scent in the bottle is not pleasant like it used to be
Taking mine back for a refund – I have used softly to do all my hand washing and woollen blankets in the washing machine for 41 years. It was transparent like dish washing detergent is. The product is cloudy now, like Dynamo washing machine liquid, and appears more favoured to be used in the washing machine. I choose not to use this product. I am taking it back for a refund, and looking for another transparent hand washing liquid. Show details
Formula has changed, wont be using again – I have always used Softly for woolens and delicates, but the formula has changed it is runnier a smaller bottle and stripped the colour from a charcoal doona cover. I wont use this product again.Bring back the old formula! Show details
Inexplicably terrible – I used Martha's Wool Mix (MWM) for more than 8 years on my general wash because (a) it had a mild aroma that was not in conflict with my perfume or intrusive when I slept (b) kept the colours true to the original (c) kept the fabrics soft and pliable (noting no conditioners were used and have tank rainwater) Softly Fabric Solutions purchased MWM… Read more
and state it's the same formula. After using the first bottle I can categorically state this is NOT true. Softly have abysmally failed in both (b) and (c). I will not use this product again.
Excellent product, there's now two types – Softly had undergone some change recently. The blue bottle is Softly for delicates and is the same formula. If it has changed it might have been slightly tweaked. It can be used for woollens as always, but for peak performance they say to use the new Softly for Woollens formula. The new Softly for Woollens is in a green bottle and has eucalyptus. … Read more
According to their website they incorporated the Martha's Woollen formula in with Softly, and dropped the Martha's range. The new Softly for Woollens (including cashmere) is an advanced and updated combination of Softly and Martha's.
So for woollens now ideally use the green bottle, but blue can be used if you don't have any. For delicates, including anything that has a little stretch like containing elastane, and bedding (it's great for these) etc use the blue bottle softly. The blue bottle can also be used in place of other laundry detergents when just a gentle wash is required. It's excellent on fibres!
Just terrible – Spent over $7 on this at coles thinking more money equals more results. Washed 3 scarves according to directions. Scarves came out only half clean (half of the scarf smelt like it hadn't been cleaned at all) and had an overpowering smell. Tried a second was straight away to perhaps finish cleaning the rest and the strong product smell was… Read more
still there and remained the next day even when left on a clothes airer.
Complete waste of money, did not do as promised. See next review on Earth's Choice to see what I had to do to resolve my smelly scarves
Specially created by the CSIRO what more could you want? – I have always used Softly for my woollens because the CSIRO actually developed the formula specially for washing woollens. I use half quantities in a front loader I am sure there used to be instructions for front loaders but now the pack says don't use but I haven't had any bad experiences. The smell is nostalgic and the feel is soft.
Best for Poodles too – Since Softly was designed for washing wool I tried using it to wash the hair/wool of my two poodles. regardless of slight differences in their wool (the wool of one poodle was very fine and curly while the other was coarse and prone to tangling or forming knots). Whereas expensive dog washes over 10 years consistently resulted in dry tangle prone… Read more
wool, washing with Softly resulted in the best result, with soft curly hair/wool and tangle free long strands of the poodle wool. The knot free difference was most noticeable on the legs of the poodles which get damp running through grass etc. I hope Pental do not change the original CSIRO formula for Softly.
Excellent – This is definately the best woo wash brand out there. I think its fairly priced as you don't use too much and it lasts for ages. Would prefer if it didn't smell so much like eucalyptus - but it's bearable as it is. I use cold water and Softly for all my hand washing and find it cleans well and is gentle. Softly is great for hand washing and your… Read more
woollens - scent is bearable and it's very delicate on your clothes. Softly is easy to rinse out of the clothes too. some other wool wash brands I have tried take forever to rinse the soap out after washing. none that I can think of.

Excellent – I love this product. My mum bought me this to use when i had my daughter, to wash all her baby clothes in to give that extra care you want with a newborn. That was the first experience i had with this particular brand, and at first i wondered what she had bought me as the packaging looked a bit out of date but as soon as i smelt the clothing and… Read more
my baby girl wearing them i loved it. The clothes always came out perfectly clean and looked as though they were really cared for clothes. i always use this product now, for any clothing that needs that little bit extra care and attention and it reminds me of when my daughter was a baby. Love this product - it smells gorgeous and washes clothes that need that little bit extra care peefectly. The packaging is out of date
Excellent – I find I have no problems what so ever with the performance of Softly. I have complete faith that it will wash properly everytime. It is very gentle on my clothes. It washes out well on the slow spin, short wash cycle. The smell is very delicate and is no way over powering which I have found in some other woolen detergents. It is one of the… Read more
priciest detergents in this range though, but then, I am not using it all the time anyway. Washes my woolens and delicates well. Lovely smell. Easy to use packaging. It suds up enormously that I find my laundry drain covered in a mountain of bubbles. It's a bit pricy.
Great product – This is a great product for people who have a lot of woolens and also who prefer to wash there bras and knickers by hand instead of putting in with the normal washing. I have to say though i did buy this as my wife had a lovely jumper that she insisted be washed with a special product so i bought this and it was rather pricey. I also have to agree… Read more
with another post that the packaging is very much out of date and does need bringing into the millennium some time soon. The product did work but i don't intend on buying it again just to wash the one item but good like i say if you have a few items to wash with it.
Definitely Delicate – I love this product and I use it for all my delicates - even some that say 'Dry Clean Only'. I use half of what they recommend in my front loader and the clothes come out perfect. They also smell yummy too. I only use it on my woolens and delicates and have had my bottle for over 6 months - you really do not need alot of this product. Less is… Read more · 1
more. I love the smell and it really is delicate just like it says. It doesn't leave any marks on your clothing whether you hand wash or machine wash. Some may baulk at the price but as I said I have had my bottle for over 6 months and I where wool and silk all year round.
Good – This is a good product to use with products that need some extra attention in the wash like linen and woollen items. While it looks at first glance to be quite and old fashioned product, it does do the job it says it will and I have not had any complaints about it. It is great for people with sensitive skins as well. Does not leave any residue. A… Read more
good product for products that need a different kind of wash such as fine linens and woollen items. You can normally always find this product in the supermarket. Works well. None really.
Good – This is a very mild product that is great for people with sensitive skin as it leaves clothes smelling fresh and feeling nice. You do not need to use much of the product each time and it does the job well, even in cold water. A good product to have in the laundry cupboard if you need something specifically for woollen products. It definitely… Read more
leaves clothes feeling soft and nice and has a very mild smell that is in no way overpowering. You only need to use a little bit of this each time and it never stains clothes. It is more expensive than many other products that do the same thing.
Good – I use Softly for all my hand washing. The instructions say warm water, but I use cold water most of the time and it works wonderfully. I have sensitive skin and a lot of cleaners will irritate my skin, but I can use Softly safely without gloves. You don't need to use a lot to get the job done, so a bottle can last awhile. Unlike the… Read more
other reviewers, I don't love the scent of Softly. It's not bad, but it is not something I would choose. I wish they offered an alternate scent like vanilla. Cleans really well. Gentle on clothes and skin. Leaves clothes soft. No choice in scents. The label design -- that woman staring out at you gets old fast.
Excellent – Whenever I go to buy wool wash, at first I always go for the cheaper one, but then I think of that gorgeous smell of Softly, and can't resist buying it. This product works very well and the smell is long lasting, it brings back so many memories of when I was a child. The packaging though - still brings back memories, it is the same picture from… Read more
back in the 80's, lol. Hasn't changed one bit, I would suggest maybe a new girl on the cover of it!! The Smell of it the price
Excellent – When my baby was first born, I initially bought Softly to wash all his clothes. It has a wonderful, soft smell. It makes the clothes really soft and is great for sensitive skin. I tried using it on my woollens as well and it performed really well. This is a great product and I would continue buying it if it were not for the price. It got a… Read more
bit expensive after a while. For special items of clothing that would need special care, I don't hesitate in buying and using Softly. It smells wonderful, great for baby's sensitive skin Price is expensive
