I purchased his unit for $50 and I think it's a steal. The DAB radio is the primary feature. Reception is fantastic here in Adelaide. All other functions work perfectly. The only whinge is this is the 3rd Sony unit I have owned that has the Aux input on the front. Should have been RCA sockets on the rear. Show details

Considering the age it's fantastic – We bought this unit around nine years back & my only issue was the scheduler sometimes turns on but doesn't tune the DAB (shows tuning) so it needs to be turned off/on or cycled through the inputs. ☹️ It then works. The size is great for a bookshelf (most are to deep) & the sound is exceptional. Another very minor thing is any USB used for audio… Read more

files can only work if formatted to FAT 32 (an old format generally limited to 4GB drives). This was never a real issue. We are updating to a Philips system that is more modern & has DAB (very few even in 2021 have this) & in hindsight the Sony was perfectly fine & certainly did a great job.

Good enough for me – I bought this unit 6 years ago and haven't had a single problem yet. I use it though to listen to DAB radio, CDs, and my i-pod. I use an external TV antenna connection and get perfect reception of all stations (I live in west Sydney). I don't use it though to stream music from the. Also, because of its age it doesn't 'see' the new i-pods but that… Read more

is a minor quibble. I know it has been discontinued and replaced by a new version with Bluetooth connectivity

Sold as a DAB Radio Device - But no DAB Radio – Same issue as others have raised here about non-functioning digital radio. I bought this Sony HiFi mainly for DAB because our location in Melbourne is not great for either AM or some FM. The VTuner server seems to be the only way this Sony Hifi can access DAB by itself, and Sony have turned it off, or not paid the VTuner bill or something -… Read more

which mean this unit - which was sold to me as a DAB radio - is NOT a functioning DAB radio.

This is not equipment failure. This is SONY raising its middle finger to its customers and saying "we know you bought it as a DAB radio, but the DAB part was designed to only use this particular server, and we've decided you're not going to have DAB radio any more, so we've turned it off."

In theory you can still stream DAB radio to the Sony from another device in your house (like a PC) using the Home Network function, if the the PC or other device is set up for that, but when I tried that the performance was usually not good, and your expensive Hifi is functioning just as some below average speakers.

Plus it's like buying a dog and doing the barking yourself.

I have bought thousands of $ of Sony equipment over the years.

But in my view this company has lost the plot completely - and I have definitely bought my last Sony product.

Expensive paperweight – Having purchased this unit primarily for the internet radio, I found that the vtuner, the service that Sony uses to access the internet radio section, was off line more than it was on. When it was working the only complaint was that it was extremely slow. Now Sony has TERMINATED its association with vtuner and left all users with no internet radio… Read more

permanently.

After discussions with a Sony representative I was informed that Sony will not do a firmware upgrade to enable any internet radio service.

I was offered a discount on another appliance but there is nothing from Sony with internet radio available.

I would definitely not advise anyone to buy this unit, From the contact I have had with this company I would wouldn't buy another Sony product.

Never buy Sony – Sony will not fix vTuner issue. Complete failure and now useless. No internet radio and sold under false advertising. There is a worldwide campaign as this is a worldwide problem.

Avoid this product – Most functions on this product work well, but the Internet radio function does not work as advertised. V-tuner does not work. Pandora does work.

Sony to phoney – Had this stereo a few years, was good but slow to connect to stations. Now most of the digital stations are missing - even when trying to retune. Mass fail!!!

CD player deficient – I purchased the sony cmt-mx750n1 a while ago and only used it as a radio for a couple of years. It mostly worked fine but occasionally had to be switched on and off a couple of times before the digital radio would work. No big deal. However .... I moved the system to another room in the house and started using the cd player a lot. Nearly… Read more

every day. After a couple weeks it malfunctioned. The cd would start ok, but then start skipping and not working by about the 3rd track. Unusable!

Extremely disappointing.

Of course the warranty period has expired, yet the cd had hardly been used.

Not happy.

This is nice and handy devide – This Sony Micro Hi-Fi has every thing I was looking for. Kids and my wife loved it. Finding required radio station is a bit tricky in the beginning. Also sometimes connecting to some radio stations are too slow. Not sure this is from radio station sites or this is an issue with this device. It doesn't happen all the times. But sound and… Read more

features are very good. I do recommend this device if looking for all-in and small device.

Fnding radio chanells are not easy. Also the wifi connections to radio stations are not very good.

Beautiful music centre – Lovely looking, clear quite loud good sound music player, I play the digital radio, and music through my iPod !! Sounds good and doesn't take a lot of room, as the old 30 pin connector for the iPod, not the new lightning connector. I purchased mine in January 2012, and I'm very happy Good quality

Probably the most versaltile hifi system on the market! – Sony CMT-MX750Ni Review I first saw this device a year ago, and while I was attracted to it and intrigued by it, it was a little pricey for me at the time. However, a couple of weeks ago I got a good deal on it, and bought it, to use in the kitchen, which is more or less the hub of our home. (We had been using a squeezebox internet radio… Read more ·  5

streamer feeding a normal shelf stereo, but our internet connection with Telstra has been getting steadily worse over time (Blue Mountains) and DAB+ (digital radio) was appealing. I added a DAB+ tuner to the mix, and the whole thing was becoming unwieldy and untidy, with THREE remote controls.)

My partner was becoming hostile about the complication (fair enough, even I was getting confused...) and it was time for a change.

Enter the Sony.

Sound quality. It’s quite good, but limited by the rubbish speakers (always) supplied with these systems. (The idea with these systems is to buy the system which gives you what you want in features, then go to a hifi shop and by some “decent” speakers. You will be surprised by the improvement!)

Appearance. Always a personal preference, and always important for me. I for one really LIKE the appearance of this unit. The HUGE volume control is perhaps a little “over the top”, but ok. I’d like to have seen the (quite informative) display quite a bit larger, and the “Audio IN” and USB sockets moved to (or duplicated on) the back. On the other hand, the existing arrangement will probably please most users.

Quality. It’s a Sony. That’s enough. Like all manufacturers, they build down to a price, but I have never had a dodgy product from Sony.

Versatility. This is where the unit stands out.

For radio broadcasts, you have FM, and DAB+. (I would have liked to have AM, but few systems offer it now.).

For Internet Radio, you have the vTuner system, adopted by several manufacturers, which is limited by comparison to (say) the Squeezebox system, but still comprehensive enough to find music for all tastes, and from most locations around the world. They accept suggestions for new stations, on their website.

For streaming music from a home server, the unit is compatible with the (sometimes problematic) DLNA standard. (Digital Living Network Alliance, in case you were wondering). This is a relatively new equipment standard for streaming music and video around the home. (I found it will only play mp3 files. This may be due to my lack of knowledge of how to implement the system. Your mileage may vary...)

USB. There is a USB slot in the front of the unit, and the unit will play (at least) MP3 and Apple AAC files from it.

Audio IN. There is a 3.5mm socket on the front of the unit, where you can connect your iPod /iPhone. Except you don’t have to, because there is also an:

iPod Dock. Yes, the left side of the front panel folds down to provide an iPod / iPhone dock! And it will charge your device while the unit is on. iPhone 5 users can BUY a dock adapter which may or may not work. Good luck!

CD Player. The inbuilt CD player will play CDs or CDR/RW MP3 disks.

Other Notes:

BEFORE setting up the unit, READ the relevant sections of the generous instruction book. It will make your life easier, I promise.

Oddly, the clock (there is always a clock!) needs to be set manually, and the time is lost if power is disconnected. Given that the time-of-day can easily be obtained from DAB+ broadcasts or the internet, this is a bit strange.

Contrary to some reports/reviews, it IS possible to save presets for Internet Radio using vTuner, These are independent from presets for DAB+ / FM. It is also possible to suggest new internet radio stations by going to the vTuner website.

Depending on your internet and local network, streaming operations may be quite slow to start.

The unit is compatible with wired (ethernet) or wireless 802.11b/g networks with WPA/2.

Shop around. http://myshopping.com.au is your friend.

Overall impression: I am very happy with this device, and would highly recommend it. Appearance, quality, versatility, comprehensive instruction manual (all in English) Speakers are pretty ordinary, but adequate.

Great micro system – Good volume its plenty for most people. Sound quality is great. Compact. Has digital radio which is hard to find in a good hifi system in that price range. The wireless feature works but i always have to re set up the connection every time i use it for some reason when i press the wireless button it says no connection but after i flick though the settings it re scans and finds it? Value and Volume Wireless feature a bit buggy
