Deceptive product and poor customer service – VERY DECEPTIVE INSTITUTION - STAY AWAY The application process is a joke. I already have all my details with them due to other accounts, but still it was a long process. Very bad customer service. The branch personnel cannot help you and ask you to ring their credit card team general phone number. Just to get someone on the phone is hard enough.… Read more

They advertised getting $400.00 cashback from shopping (now is $500.00), but after spending at Cole's an Woolworths and other places, no cashback has been deposited in my account. After spending over an hour on the phone, I was told that not all places will be involved in this promotion. They told me that their website mentions this, so I asked for a lis of the places participating in this promotion. They could not provide that or tell me where to shop around my area. VERY DECEPTIVE INSTITUTION

Wouldn't recommend to anyone – Wish I had read these reviews prior. Absolute joke. Makes an inquiry on your credit score soon as you being the application. Decided to offer me $1,000 credit limit? Seriously?! On a $100K+ annual salary Max credit limit is $6,000 which isn't advertised. 30+ mins waiting to answer a phone call. Do yourself a favour and STAY AWAY Show details

Horrible Customer Service and CC Application – The CC application process, time u get your card, is ridiculous. It's been a month the application started 2 weeks agos it was approved but I havent heard from the bank since. You try to contact them for a follow up and wait 1h on the phone for then they hang up on you. Really frustrating, definitely don't recommend. Show details

Totally worst application process ever – Already 5 weeks and told another week til get card and at least 5-10 business days for balance transfer. Had to chase them continually re what was hold up, anything missing. If they can not organise a credit card in under 2 months not sure what rest service will be like. Looking to cancel and go elsewhere.  Show details

Wow, spectacularly hopeless! – Conditionally approved for a derisory amount, (this seems to be common). However, the reason i have withdrawn my application is that quite simply St George's left hand has no idea what its right hand is doing! emails from them and calls made to them are all inconsistent, this leaves the customer with a complete lack of confidence in the bank and… Read more

the product they're selling. As for me the only worry i have now is, did they really withdraw my application as requested.

The ABSOLUTE WORST financial institution – I wish I could rate this zero stars. PAY ATTENTION St George. I have perfect credit, earn $100k/yr, and own my own home with no mortgage. To start off you approve a roughly $5k credit limit which is already pathetic, you then make me attend a physical branch to prove my identity during a global pandemic, once my address has been verified, I then… Read more

receive an email offering me a final offer of a $1k credit limit even though all of my information was verified. I will NEVER, EVER deal with your bank again and I will be making my feelings known on every platform possible.

Hopelessly Long Cc Application & Rude Customer Service – Went to apply for an additional credit card holder on 6 February and had to verify myself in person based on their email response and I have called to check if I have to go down to their sister bank's to verify myself. So I went down to Wespac and Bank of Melbourne (to chase why the card is not received when I had already done it weeks ago at… Read more

Wespac) on 13 February and 4 March to verify and was told that everything is settled.

It is 22 March now and when we called St George on the phone, they said nothing was created and SCREAMED at my partner on the phone and was extremely racist when we said our 'non-English' legal name - super rude and blamed us for not checking with St George.

Excuse me? We called your team and they told us to go down to the sister bank to verify - I had to chase and chase and chase yet nothing is done. What a useless bank this is - so incompetent and rude.

No wonder they are not the BIG 4 banks. Will not be their customer anymore and will shop somewhere else - don't bother with ST GEORGE - HOPELESS. What a joke seriously.

Terrible experience – I found St George terribly difficult to work with when applying for a credit card. After providing the information they required three times and still getting no where, I called customer service only to be put on hold and not picked up again. I then called back to speak to someone else who was unable to help me. I then terminated my application… Read more

DO NOT DO A ST. GEORGE BALANCE TRANSFER!!! Read this first – DO NOT DO A ST. GEORGE BALANCE TRANSFER or even get a St. George Credit Card. Here is what happened to us. We used a St. George Credit Card for 2 balance transfers ending at different times. We paid them exactly perfectly as to not have interest after the 0% period was up. We paid off the final $1100 of the first balance transfer on-time. And… Read more

for some reason for who knows why, it was refunded back to our bank from the St. George Credit Card without anyone letting us know this had occurred. We were in the middle of buying a house and I was 7/8 months pregnant so we didn’t look online because we were so busy. I strongly feel St. George should have made us aware of this via email or mail which they did not but this is only the start of it. Just before giving birth we looked online and noticed we were being charged interest which made no sense since we were on 0% and paid everything off on time so we called in right away. They acted like as long as we paid the $1100 right away and filed a formal dispute they would remove the excess interest charges. Which by the way were not just interest based on $1100! From speaking to multiple people since it looks like they are charging us for the original amount on the card (including both balance transfers!) because the FULL AMOUNT was not paid on time and they do not “have” to use our payments towards the balance transfer finishing first “it’s in the fine print” they can choose to pay it towards the 2nd so you have to pay off BOTH before the first it due. This is so Dodgy and beyond unethical. So we had our baby and came home and continued to make calls and be pushed around and given to different people and basically make excuses for everything, always getting told they will have to contact us back tomorrow or in 2 days. Even have been told they don't have authority over the phone and to go into the branch which we did and they don't have anyone working there except behind the windows and they have no clue why we were sent in. So now we are 7-8 months later still being pushed around and made to feel so small the whole time while they are continuing to charge us interest on the original balance even though our credit card has been paid off in full minus the new interest charges. They told us we need to get letters from our bank saying it was their fault the $1100 was originally refunded which I tried to go do and my bank laughed and said St. George is a Dodgy bank and they know another bank would never admit fault even if it was their fault. They are just trying to give you the run around and what they are doing to you is wrong. Even if it was my banks fault at most it would be $20-$40 of interest for $1100 to sit on a credit card for 2 months. Not nearly $500 they are trying to charge us! I am supposed to be enjoying this magical time with my newborn and this bank has put me through so much anxiety, tears and tons of wasted time. They truly don’t care to try and fix their wrongs, they are just trying to screw you for every cent they can. I have worked in finance and have never dealt with a bank this horrible to human beings and truly just don’t care. There are much better options in banks and credit cards, don’t ever give them a chance or they will screw you over if they can. So hurt from this experience, I hope I can at least save others from this. -Nicole (New Mom & Ex St. George Customer)

Stay Away! – I rang them to close my credit card account. I accidentally had overpaid them around $50, so I was also calling to make arrangements to get my overpaid money back. As I don't have an account with this bank, a very rude woman at their contact centre explained that I was going to be charged $10 for a cheque to be written for the overpaid $50. When I… Read more

complained she said -in a patronizing tone- that that was the standard fee and that someone needed to be paid to write a cheque for me. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and I told them that it was unreasonable that I was going to be charged for trying to get my own money back. Finally, they agreed to waive the cheque fee. Three weeks later I received a cheque for $31.77!!! Don't trust this bank. Stay away!

Worst bank ever – It's been 5 weeks since I've been approved for my Vertigo balance transfer card. So far neither of my card have had any balance trasferred. No one at this bank knows what's going on from one department to another. I… Read more

was told that on activation of my card within three days my existing credit card debts would be paid in three days. Four weeks later it's still in pending and no one knows why. On top of this you have to wait 15 minutes at least before you get to speak to someone who has no clue whatsoever of how things work. Four weeks in and my balance transfers are still pending with no result. After being on hold for 24 minutes today I was told id missed the credit card support team by 9 minutes that i need to talk to, although I was told on Friday after 25 mins on hold i needed to call today and ask for the balance trasferred team which I did. Absolute awful service all round from this bank , I will never encourage anyone ever to use this bank, EVER!!!!!

Wouldn't recommend – They offer great deals on balance transfers but that's about it. Customer service is terrible from phone to in the branch, branches have terrible hours that don't help people who work full time and they try to charge interest on their annual fees even if you've already paid it off! Would strongly recommend going elsewhere. I won't use them again and will cancel my card as soon as possible. Good balance transfer rates

Incompetant staff/ application process flawed – I have a good credit rating & I applied online for advertised credit card balance transer and was approved. It looked attractive to save a bit of interest. I was given verbal approval over phone with all my accutate figures. When I had sent in my proof documents which were all exactly what I had provided in a timely way I heard nothing back so… Read more

contacted them, by e-mail initially & heard nothing back. I then called and called and called. I got a big run around & they couldnt even find my application. Eventually it was explained my application , as it was submitted online had somehow expired. I was asked to again provide documents, even when my documents had been found but felt this was unreasonable, so asked for higher level of customer service. Several phonecalls followed got put through to a higher level in customer service who said there were somehow now two applications on the system and she would sort it out. Heard nothing back. A couple of weeks later I got a letter saying my application had been declined. Well the customer service lady did get rid of me, the easiest way she could.

I am somewhat worried this may effect my good credit rating as I did not take it further with a complaint ombudsman at time, as first step was to make a complaint to bank & I had already spent so much time on this , but will tell the story if it ever comes up in relation to my credit & have kept some of the e-mails.

I would advise dont try & do business with this bank based on my experience. I also recieved several letters for credit card offers after this experience from other banks a short time after this and suspect my personal details were also sold. I opted to keep my manageble debt with the bank I am with & don't regret it.

Hopeless customer service that can harm you

Call Centre staff are disrespectful and should be trained – I am definitely getting rid of my St George card - I have now spoken to a number of people who have had the same experience with the call centre staff who are just plain rude and patronising. would suggest anyone who gets a call from their credit department do the same. No complaints until my direct debit payment was mixed up... the "credit" department is staffed with disgusting and rude young men who need to be sacked. They will eventually cost the company a lot of customers.

Excellent – I also provide a helpful review of this card on my website so be sure to check it out: [url censored] As I already had a St.George saver account I was able to link this credit card to it and it's super easy to manage. I also saved a bit of money by transferring over my CBA credit card debt over to this 2.99% p.a balance transfer rate. Nothing negative I've discovered yet.

No respect for customer rights – When everything runs smoothly the product and service is like all banks fine. When i asked online for a reduced credit limit they refused - increases are fine but for a decrease you have to attend the bank! I complained about this and their constant offers of increases so they cancelled my Internet and phone banking - that's their smart Alec… Read more

way of stopping automatic offers of credit increases.

Bank security phones a day later to tell me someone tried to use the illegally overseas so they've cancelled it. As I can't access Internet banking or phone bank I'm forced back to the bank to ask to see the transaction history. They refused to show me as I declined to activated the new cards. Basically if I don't activate the card my account remains cancelled and I'll be posted out a quarterly statement.

The lady behind the counter explained she couldn't show me her computer screen so I could check for illegal transactions as policy prevented this.

Another complaint letter with threats to see the ombudsman is responded to with a phone call advising me the automatic credit offers will stop, but access to my account online or by phone want be restored unless I activate the new cards they sent - by using them. No thanks and goodbye St. George

Reckless offers of credit increases without concern for customer wishes or finical positions. Indifference to requests based on financial concerns of customers.

Low interest rate and easy to use – We got this card a while ago as it had the lowest interest rate and it was easy to pay off. good because you are less tempted to spend then to 'earn' rewards when in realitu you end up paying through the nose in interest.

This credit card is much better if you do not pay in full each month. Low interest No rewards
