Steelcraft Strider 3

Steelcraft should be ashamed!! – We have had one of these for a little while. The design and build quality of this is disgraceful. And for the price! Wow what a scam. For example the front wheel stirrup is fabricated from thin folded steel with plastic screwed to the side. It's so weak it folds over and the wheel turns and folds under. The first time this happened I thought… Read more
the front had gone into a manhole.
Despite the excessive weight of the thing, its has no rigidity at all and flops all over the place as you attempt to stear it.
I am truly bewildered by the fact that this pram is getting high reviews. And the fact there are products getting worse reviews? How bad must they be?
Either the good reviews are fraudulent, or this pram is simply one of many examples of poor quality, poor designed products in a sucker's market.
And yes we do know better than to buy online based purely on reviews, but the busineness of preparing for a second child caused us to drop our guard. Perhaps that's the premises of the double pram market. What a PoS!
In-depth reviews
Great pram for little babies – I used this pram for both of my children from birth. With the Steelcraft cushioned insert this pram was very comfortable for them, especially in winter (the insert is too hot to use in summer). Neither of them had trouble sleeping in it, however as they grew and wanted to sit up more I found that the seat's highest level still didn't sit quite… Read more
upright, so they ended up trying to sit more forward. The foot rest bar can be clicked into several positions which I found very handy when they were babies - it stops them slipping down the seat. I loved that the seat is removable and reversible (this was the main reason I bought it). And the canopy has excellent coverage for shading baby. The handle is extendable for those that are taller.
The pram is very sturdy and stable with great wheels that never have to be pumped up and the frame is of excellent construction. The major downpoint to this pram is that it is very wide. It can be difficult to squeeze through shopping racks in congested shops, or when you want to slip past people in shopping isles etc. It is also rather cumbersome and a bit heavy (but what pram isn't?). It is easy enough to put down and put into the boot. I always took the seat off first to make it easier and lighter.
I bought the bassinet to use for my 2nd bub. He slept in it for the first 6 months. I found this very handy because I could push the pram back and forth to put him back to sleep when he stirred. It's also of excellent quality and construction. And everything is removable and washable.
I have used this pram a lot over the years. The only wear that I can see is on the wheels, but it has been on a lot of outdoor walks. Otherwise, the material is in great condition still. Although this pram has been superseded it would still make an excellent 2nd hand pram because it wears so well. Quality pram. Great for babies from birth. Wears extremely well so it lasts for years through many children. Easy to manouver. Great for indoors or out. Large storage basket. Great canopy. Can use with bassinet. Very wide rear wheels make it difficult in tight spaces. Seat's highest position isn't high enough for babies/toddlers that want to sit fully upright. Was rather expensive to buy new. Older and taller children may outgrow this pram.
We love our Strider! – We bought our strider 2nd hand and it still looked brand new. The only thing to show where was the basket and the back wheels which we easily replaced brand new directly from manufacturer. We thought that would be expensive but surprisingly cheap, around 25.00 for each wheel and the same for a new basket. We also got the bassinet - perfect… Read more
condition - which our bub also slept in for the first 8 weeks. (She hated the expensive bassinet we bought her) It rides beautifully on all surfaces and you can see it is a sturdy stroller and very well made. That fact you can interchange the seats/bassinet and change directions is super. The seat is great for little newborns aswell and it really cradles them in a good position. Very easy to steer, often walk holding my husbands hand and also pushing/steering bubby. Huge basket, easy clean fabric, reversible seat, great sun/shade canopy - good coverage and adjustable, just everything really!!! It is quite expensive as a bundle but there is always a bargain on ebay and honestly, the wear and tear factor is low as this pram in very durable, saying that, do look around and dont worry if wheels and replacable parts need fixing - wont break the bank.
Some really good features! – This pram appealed to us because it has the ability to be rear or forward facing. This feature was the best thing about it and I know many of my friends regretted not buying a pram that could have the seat reversed. We also used the bassinet attachment during the first weeks with our baby as a cot and this was a great accessory as we could cart… Read more
him around the house as he was sleeping. We moved the baby into the harness seat to sit upright after about 6 weeks and he used the pram until he was over 12 months. We bought it second hand and the lady who had it before us used it for a lot of walking so it held up, and really got a work out. The seat had 3 reclining positions, it was very easy to adjust so if the baby fell asleep in an upright position you could lay them down without too much disturbance. The seat was easy to take off and face the other direction. The pram was very sturdy and solid and there is plenty of storage space. The handle length is adjustable so my tall husband could push it with ease and I can too as a medium height person. It is 3 wheeled and was very good at going up steps without the wheel wobbling or veering off to the side. It is quite heavy. The cambor on the wheels eventually wore out on the back two wheels and ended up sloping inward. Although this didn't make much of a difference to the way it operated it was annoying as the wheels squeaked. The pram was very wide and couldn't get through some sliding doorways, but was fine in shopping aisles and most standard doors. This pram lasted a long time.
Positive reviews
fantastic pram but wide wheel base – I love our pram for everyday general use. but the wide wheel base sometimes makes it hard when shopping. Also the suspension doesn't take much of the shock from my baby. I wouldn't be able to jog with a young baby in there. Overall it is a great pram the exception is if you looked to get out and about where there us rough terrain. easy to use, sturdy, great attachments. bad suspension
Breeze Pram – I would change the name of my Strider Plus to Breeze Pram. It's really hard to describe this pram. I get stopped all the time by strangers asking me where I got my pram and if I like it. I tell them I love it! It's a breeze to open and close with lots of well thought of features. The designers have thought of everything. I guess my only complaint… Read more
is that it doesn't make coffee. Now if there was a pram that did that.... Versatility, extras, easy packing, frame choices, comfort, bag space. I could go on and on. More colour choices.
Reliable investment! – I have used this pram for three years and it has withstood the test of time. It also has great resale value, as I have only just sold mine and I got back almost half of what I originally paid for it. It maneuvers well and handles rough terrain. It has a large sun canopy, one of the best I've seen, and the mesh viewing window allows for added… Read more
ventilation. It is perfect for newborns to older toddlers as it has many different positions the sit can be put into. I originally bought this pram as it allowed my son to face me. It does have some pitfalls too. It is too wide to fit down some aisles and checkouts, and if you have a small boot this will not fit in. I only sold this pram as my son now walks everywhere and doesn't need it anymore and would highly recommend it. Reliable, sturdy, flexible seating. There is a bar that goes through the basket to support the wheelbase. It doesn't fit down some checkouts and won't fit in small boots.

Do not buy this stroller – We bought the 3-wheel Strider 3 with bassinette for our first baby and have owned it for almost 4 years now. This product is overpriced rubbish. Within a short period of time the front wheel started getting stuck at odd angles with the stroller going off like a wonky shopping trolley. Later the rear wheels started clicking all the time as though… Read more
the brake was stuck on. Now at just over 3 1/2 years old the chassis will no longer fold. Absolute garbage. Not related to reliability this stroller is simply too wide for getting around most shops. Style, flexibility Poor reliability, wheels stick, frame wont fold
Do not buy this pram!! – I got this pram yesterday and I was so excited to take it for a walk today. I started walking on a path with a slight angle, every time I hit a bump in the pavement it tried to fall over!! At one point I tried to go up a driveway at a slight angle and it started to fall over. I'm so dissapointed! This pram is so unsafe I can't believe it. When I… Read more
called the shop they told me all 3 wheel prams have a tendency to be unstable, I can't believe they didn't tell me this and even sold it as great for uneven ground. I actually hurt my arm trying to stop it falling over, hate to think what could have happened if it fell with my son in it.
Do not buy or at least take it outside the shop and try going up something on an angle, you'll see.
Unsafe!
OK – Very reasonably priced. Looks trendy and modern, baby can face you and away. Folds down in 1. Too wide, you can only go down the disabled isle in the supermarkets and limits you to shopping. Becomes uneasy to fold down after around 8 months, hinge sticks and feels like its on its last legs. The saftey bar which is removable, snapped whilst we… Read more

While it worked, we loved it – We bought this pram for our first born. She only fit the pram till she was 2.5. We kept if for our second. After 6 months the front wheel would lock on occasions. A bit of oil, no problem. It now lives at a Family Daycare home and get used daily. It's still works like a dream. Easy to steer, looks great, most importantly the babies loved it. Doesn't work well over 14kg weight. Needs maintenance, don't we all.
It's a grate pram but the service u get when u need it fixed is unbelievable :-( – I have had my strider plus for a while now and the frame broke so I called the shop where I got it from and I was told it was my own fault and there is nothing they can do about it . (I was happy to pay to get it fixed I just didn't know where to start) Very bad warranty service
Great versatile pram/stroller – I purchased the steelcraft strider second hand and couldn't be more happier. The versatility of having forward facing or backward facing is great. It came with the basinette which is interchangeable so you can use the basinette for newborns and the toddler seat as bub gets older. The sleeping bag is also great to use with both the basinette and… Read more
toddler seat. I liked having bub higher up and not so low to the ground as many of the prams today have. The extra large shopping basket is handy as well. I would definitely recommend this product. versatile, roomy, big shopping basket,

Excellent – I am very satisfied with this product so far. I have had many other parents comment on the pram and ask where they too can purchase one. Height of pram - less bending. That the pram comes apart and makes it lighter to life and assemble. The only 3 wheel pram I found that has a reversible seating arrangement so you can view bub as you wheel along. No negatives at the moment.
Good – This is a great looking pram that I would totally recommend. There isn't one pram on the market that has no cons and I think the Strider is a very good compromise between the pros, cons, looks and price. My daughter would sleep in the pram all the time (even without the bassinet attachment). When we were deciding between the Strider 3 and Strider… Read more
4, we chose the 3 as it seemed to turn a lot easier than the 4. Now that our daughter weighs a lot more, I wonder if the 4 would have been a better choice as the 3 is now hard to turn (either that or our front swivel is faulty but I seem to be reading the same thing here). It is definitely worth considering this pram esp if you are active and like walking. If you can, test the pram in store with some weight in it. It will make a difference to how they handle. Very sturdy pram, able to go over all terrain with no problems. I love that you can face baby either towards you or facing out which was wonderful when she was small. Adjustable handle height, great big hood gives lots of shade, viewing window in the hood is very handy, basket is a really good size and can fit a fair bit of shopping. Looks great and is a reliable brand. It is a reasonably priced pram compared to a lot of others which is important as no matter what you buy, I can guarantee you'll be buying a stroller too at some stage down the track. We knew this and so budgeted accordingly. Front swivel gets stuck a lot now that baby is heavier (she's currently 10kg). It is worse if she is facing me so we no longer have that option. This pram is very wide so you can only use disabled checkouts but this hasn't been a real issue, takes up lots of boot space (we can still fit a full load of shopping in), harness was never tight enough for her when she was a newborn so I was a little concerned (it fits her fine now she's older). Zip in the middle of the basket is a total pain and always gets in the way, same with the large bar so you have to be careful when putting shopping in (don't want to squash those tomatoes!). The most upright position doesn't seem to be upright enough.
I love it and it goes everywhere with me – I purchased this when i had bub no 2 as i wanted a pram where bub could face me. I kept my old one with the intention of having a pram in each car so i wouldnt have to keep swapping, and had one for home for when we walked. it doesnt work like that, my other 2 sit in the shed and my strider goes from my car to hubbys and out for walks. it is such an easy pram to push and really is my favourite out of the 8 i have had. so effortless to push.
Perfect Product!! Used everyday!!! – A Beaut fantastic pram!! My son was born in July 2010, I was given the pram with the basinette attachment. It has been used daily ever since. Stands up to everything its thrown. Everything!!!. Washes easily, sturdy yet light weight, Huge basket under the seat, steers with ease. little small in length for long babies, however I have noticed that the newer models of strider prams have been the seats extended to accommodate longer children
Excellent – Love this pram! Love the colour options, easy to collapse, lift, wheel around. Great for active mums with the front wheel lock handy on the prams handle. My daughter falls asleep as soon as she sits in the pram so it must be comfortable, it handles rocks and bumps in the park really well too so she doesn't wake up each time we hit something! handles it well too. All in all as you can tell I highly recommend this pram, what's better we found it for $200 less than RRP so look around, Babies Galore ended up having this discount for us! In my view this is the best pram on the market. It is the only 3-wheeler with the option of baby facing either way. The shopping compartment is much larger than in other prams and as you can lift the 'seat' out you can access it easily. I bought the universal storm cover and mesh mozzie cover which fit perfectly and have been used heaps. All other 3-wheelers have the front wheel lock on the wheel, so you have to stop walking and lean over the front wheel. This pram has the wheel lock on the handle, you don't even have to stop walking. Very handy feature which I haven't seen on any other pram. The sunshade is perfect with an extension that reduces glare, seems to be at the perfect spot as it always puts shade over my daughters face. The mesh 'window' in the back is also great for ventilation and looks heaps better than the cheap looking PVC on most prams. Also like the foot flip/down, easy to click down and will be great when her legs are a little bit longer. There's nothing bad about this pram! Other reviews have complained about size and weight, I've found the pram extremely easy to collapse and lift into the boot and there's still heaps of room for the shopping. The 'seat' separates from the main pram making it easier to collapse and handy if the baby falls asleep in the pram on a walk, you can just carry them in the seat. It is a wider pram than the standard ones, but I haven't had a problem, aisles are wider these days. There is less steel on this pram so less areas to rust, great when you're by the beach, also not having to inflate the wheels and risk flat tyres rocks!
Perfect for what I wanted it for – I bought the Strider to use mainly on walks and it does this job perfectly - it is comfortable to push and feels sturdy and secure. As other reviewers have pointed out, it does have a wide wheel base so you will need to be careful at checkouts but as I knew that before I bought it I was prepared for that. I have used this since bub was a newborn… Read more
and can still push her around comfortably (she's 12 kg - very big for her age). I love the fact that the seat is reversible so I can face bub away from the sun if needed. Reversible seat, sturdy, can steer one handed. Takes up a lot of space in boot, starting to go a bit wonky - veers to one side.
Excellent – I LOVE the way this pram moves, it's a pleasure to push around and takes no effort at all, it actually brings me joy to change wheel it round. In fact I love almost every single thing about this pram. The clips really do hurt when the snap into place, and the basket mesh was a pain til I cut it, but these are small things overall. The width stops… Read more
me all the time when im out shopping, have to really think about which shops i can get into and move round in, often have to go the long way round in the car park as it can't scoot between parked cars a lot of the time, but it's worth it for the manouvrability and stability which was what i bought it for in the first place. Super smooth and easy to manouvre, great turning circle, a breeze to wheel and steer one handed while fully loaded(just discovered this at the airport), nice roomy basket for shopping, fantastic suspension, comfy foam handle, baby can face me (which is his preference even though he's 15 months), adjustable handle, vent in sunshade so bub doesn't get too hot, easy to adjust seat position when bub has fallen asleep, just press and recline, baby seems really comfy, often falls asleep in here. Fantastic for power walking. It IS a little bulky, doesn't bother me too much as I love everything else about it, but I can only fit through wheel chair checkouts, a bit tricky to fit in restaurants or walking through city streets. The clips on the seat snap really hard and if your fingers are in the way OUCH. The basket came with a mesh zip that was fixed right through the centre of the basket, so annoying i eventually cut it.
Good – I love my strider. The reversible seat is awesome. It's so easy to steer and turn. Also good over uneven ground. Bit of a pain packing it into the boot because it folds away in two pieces and I don't see why it has to be so wide, you have to go through the wheel chair accessible checkouts at supermarkets. But having said that, I've always managed… Read more
to get around the shops without too much hassle. Adjustable handle is good. Overall I think it's a great pram. Very maneuverable. Reversible seat. Large basket underneath. Too wide. Cannot get through normal check outs at the supermarket.
Good – I LOVE my strider, it really makes you workout in the thigh department, you basically push your pram with your thighs! Its shock absorber are GREAT for unpaved, rocky, bumpy surfaces, could be better though! Really easy to manouvre around shopping malls, aisles etc, but it is deffinetly TOO WIDE and sometimes wont fit through narrow doorways..… Read more
good luck, great pram but it shouldnt be so wide! :) Great second seat option and Im sure the capsule worked a treat but I didnt get one :( Love the easy steering and turns around in small spaces terrifically! Baby loves it :) TOO WIDE! It JUST fits through a standard doorway and cannot get through supermarket checkouts, only the wheelchair one, which isnt always open with an operator! Annoying to pack and unpack, 2 pieces make it time consuming and itakes up alot of space, not suitable for small cars with small boots! Heavy.

Good – Overall, I think this is a very good pram, although if I had my time again I would purchase the four wheel pram instead. I use this pram everyday. but don't all good prams! Once I'd been using it for a while I became a pro at packing it up and discovered that if you use the middle bar to tip it, you can easily take it in and out of the car without taking it apart. My husband and I researched many prams after we decided that the second hand pram that we were given (Steelcraft) was unsuitable. The wheels were too narrow on this pram, the straps didn't tighten well and it did not meet the new safety standards. We bought the Strider 3 because it is one of the few prams on the market which meets all the current safety standards. We love the wide wheels, as they mean that you don't knock your feet on the wheels as you push the pram, which is especially good for my husband who is tall. The fact that you can adjust the handle is also good for tall people. I love the fact that you can adjust the seat to face you and the size of the basket. The look of the pram is also good, I receive comments all the time about how good the pram looks. The safety zipper in the basket is a nuisance - I wish I could take it out and have considered cutting it. The brake can be a bit difficult to take off (I often use my hand instead of my foot). The front wheel seems to have a mind of its own which can be very frustrating, I often put the lock on and just tip the pram when turning.
Good – we recently purchased this pram from the pram warehouse, very good price, very nice style, with a lot of features and ability to change the pram around depending on my babies age and how i want to push her around, very happy with the what we have named our babies tuk tuk. nice style, good color selection, and it is amazing how easy it is to use.… Read more

(recommended) as they can lay flat on their backs and you can reverse the whole bassinet or stroller.
Can see baby through gauze when using stroller part, and baby can see you if they trun their heads - good for checking if they are asleep while they cannot see you.
Folds up easily after you have done it once. The stroller could have been made opting to use a more upright position, I find toddler slouches more than I would like unless I cram a cushion behind her back.
Good – There are pros and cons to this pram, but overall the pros are great - and i would recommend. It is a safe secure and strong pram, and built to last. Great pram - comfortable for bub - he often falls asleep in it! Excellent for tall parents like us - as you can adjust the height of the handle to push. three wheeler which has been excellent. Very wide - but you get used to knowing which aisles at supermarket checkout you can get thru! The basket witht he zip underneath is soooo frustrating!! You can fit heaps in, but it is a real pain trying to get stuff in and out of..it is easier when baby is forward facing in pram.
Have compared with another mother with same pram, and her baby also tends to 'slouch' a bit on an angle, when it is in the upright position. Doesn't seem to worry bub, but find i have to adjust him and pull him upright a bit more.
Good – i do love this pram BUT it isnt as practical as i expected. although the money you save compared to similar products are worth the cons!! easy to manouvre. great looking. able to change from forward to rear facing. great sized sunshade. reasonably priced compared to similar products. heavy to lift. wide wheel base, cant fit thru some checkouts n… Read more

position. Love it's sturdiness and manouvarability. Fairly easy to fold down once you get the hang of it. Had bubs in the bassinet to start with and then the stroller by the time he was 2 months. He loves it and has no problems sleeping in it. I've had to take it back 3 times for faults. however i do have friends with it who don't have problems so I think I just got a dud. After 3 sets of wheel changes, the pram still has a wobble thats really annoying however it seems to put Bub to sleep so I guess that could be a pro. It does take up alot of space in the boot. Underneath basket is nice and big but it's a bit hard to get anything into it.
Good – Quite happy, snazzy looking, comfy for bub, love the reversable seat and the colour range. don't like not being able to get into narrow spaces, the wheels are too wide for a normal supermarket aisle. Also in the upright position the seat is still tilted back a bit, which i don't like if the bub is have a snack on the go, it concerns me that it could be too easy to choke while strapped in like that.
Excellent – great pram i love it would buy it again, even had it set up at night in our bedroom with the bassinet for the baby to sleep in untill he out grew it, didn't need to go and buy another bassinet for night time so saved money there as well with it. baby can face me, reclines easily, has bassinet option which was great for him in the begining, light… Read more
weight, easy to pull apart can stack it in the car around different things depending what else you've got in there. wide wheels makes it easy to walk behind so your not hitting your feet on them, as you are with some prams. the wheels at are a bit wide which is not as easy to get around with at the supermaket and places with narrow openings.
OK – Overall, I have been a little disappointed by this pram. I really liked the look of it when we bought it and still do, but now wish I had spent the extra money on a Phil and Ted's with a narrower wheel base and pump up tyres for a smoother ride...a bit more of a sportier type of pram more suited for walking etc. However, if you want looks and are… Read more
happy with the pitfalls mentioned, it is a fairly good pram. The pram looks great and is easy to push, even with one hand. My baby seems happy in it and although we didn't really need the bassinette, it was good to have the option and it has been use several times without the pram. I really like the fact that I can have my baby facing me. The wheel base it too wide and the hard tyres mean the ride is not a smooth as it could be going over hard surfaces. The pram is very bulky and takes up almost the entire boot of our car (Holden SV6, a big boot!). I didn't think I would have a problem with the two parts when I originally bought this, but now find it to be irritating when getting the pram in and out of the car.
Good – Overall I would recommend this stroller as it is sturdy, (apparently) comfortable and easy to manouvre. If you can cope with the large folded size then it is a great option. Great looking pram. Sturdy. I think it must be very comfortable as my son seems to love it and easily falls asleep in it (which is saying something!) It is so easy to… Read more
manouvre. I love the reversibility of the seat - at the moment I prefer to face my 6 month old, but I know in the future he will want to face the other way to watch the world.
The bassinette attachment was fantastic - we used it as a portable cot until my son looked like he was too big to be comfortable in it (around 7 kg) Large and bulky. I find it a bit awkward to transport in the car, having to take it apart and fold the two parts to get it in. In smaller cars the stroller would probably take up most, if not all, of the boot. Also it took me a while to learn how to fold it - a little bit difficult.
Also I really wanted a mesh sun shade, and ended up buying a "Shade-a-Babe Universal", which doesn't really fit nicely on the stroller when it is facing me and reclined. (It fits better when the stroller is upright and facing the other way).
Good – Well I am considering upgrading to the Strider Deluxe so that says it all really. I have been very happy with my Strider and happy to recommend it :o) Loved having bub facing me for the first months and the big shopping basket underneath. ha) and smooth to "drive". Now we are planning bubba number 2 it is frustrating not to have any toddler options. We knew at the time it didn't come with toddler seat but have now realised we can't even get a skateboard to hook on it anywhere. The new Strider Deluxe has toddler seat option so am considering an upgrade....just got the hassle of selling this one to buy a new one.
OK – The pram is not as small as I thought it was. It is fairly wide and I am always getting stuck in door ways and aisles. Don't waste your money on the basinet because although it is handy for sleeping at visitor's houses my baby used it on the actual pram for only 2 months. mainly because I'm worried when my baby gets older he won't fit in it. I like the look of it and it's pretty light. I have a Commodore station wagon and it takes up the whole of my boot, especially when you have the basinet. My front wheel is always jamming.
OK – In terms of value for money, I think it's definitely worth a look compared to other prams. With that being said, if money is not an issue then there are certainly better prams out there. Personally I am glad we didn't buy a more expensive pram as the Strider served its purpose and now our baby is six months we have switched to a much lighter… Read more
stroller which she can still sleep in but is a lot more weight friendly and doesn't take up the entire car boot. We will still use Strider for long walks but that's about it. Value for money - compared to other prams well priced. Appears to be comfortable for baby - our baby slept in this from day 1 (bassinet first & switched over around 3 months). Option to face baby both ways. Heavy, wide & big - takes up most of car boot, heavy to regularly lift in and out of boot, wide for shopping aisles and doorways (though other prams face same problem). We had problems with front wheel so had to "lock" it in. No sunshade so need to use muslin wraps or similar which are a challenge in windy conditions and look messy.
