Amazing – I've had this for years - couldn't tell you how many. No bells and whistles, which frankly I don't care for, just an extremely reliable and simple-to-use machine. It makes consistently good coffee with great crema and milk frothing. I have made literally thousands of brews with this mighty little machine. Show details

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! – Literally the worst customer service experience. TLDR; If your machine is broken (even if just out of the box) might as well give up. Sunbeam's customer service would get you to cut the cords and throw out your machine with the premise of replacement but won't deliver. I ordered a machine back in April and it had a leaking water tank. I… Read more

contacted sunbeam through their website to see if there was a fix or if I could swap the water tank it given it is just out of the box. They sent a reply to cut the cords, send them a photo prove, then throw out the machine in the regular waste bin and they will "dispatch your replacement product which will arrive at your nominated address within 7-10 business days". I did all the steps on the day, sent them the photo and assumed they will action since they gave no reply.

3 weeks later I followed-up for an estimated delivery date, they said the courier hasn't provided the tracking number yet and might be delayed due to the pandemic. Completely understandable so I told them no stress and would be great if they could send me an estimated delivery date if they had any. They didn't reply.

2 months later (3 months since they told me to cut the cords), I followed up on it again. This time they replied saying that "EM2800 is currently out of stock. We expect to receive a shipment by the end of the month or in the coming weeks. We'll keep you updated once item is available." Which is absolutely ridiculous because it means that they haven't even sent the machine in the first place and goes against their first email and the reply to my first follow-up. I stated that all I wanted was either a confirmation on delivery date estimate or a refund, to which I had no reply again.

I gave up, bought a new machine from a different brand and forgot about this but thought I'll send in a review to warn people about Sunbeam's customer service. Honestly it is a really cheap coffee machine but for the level of courtesy Sunbeam gives a customer, I would not buy from the brand again. If they had at least let me know from the start that they can't deliver rather than saying they had and me having to find out months later (after multiple follow-up emails) that they actually haven't even delivered, that it is now out of stock and that I would have to wait an indeterminate amount of months again, I would have just not even bothered, get a new machine earlier on and requested a refund instead.

Also update, it is now September, over 5 months and I still have no news on it. I have chosen to just let it go and not even bother seeking a refund if that means having to deal with customer service again but for anyone thinking of buying from the brand, just be wary that if and when it stops working, customer service is hopeless and might as well just throw it out early and give up hope on replacement or refund to save you the stress.

A great little bench warmer – I have had this machine for 18 months, purchasing it from Target for $129, and it has been very good. I would consider myself a coffee snob, and I like to roast my own beans to a level that I prefer. I have several means available to me to make a good coffee, including cold drip, several percolators and a significantly larger Sunbeam Cafe series… Read more

machine. For personal reasons I needed a cheapie in a hurry, and this was perfect for what I needed. It made a nice cup of coffee, with minimal warmup time. The steam wand also functions according to it's purpose.

However, a week ago, the water under pressure started leaking out past the seal, with the group head attached and locked into place. Fine, I thought... I'll buy a new seal, as it could probably use it now. New genuine seal arrived today and was promptly fitted, ensuring that the grooves lined up with the notches. All good, and ready to go...!

Still leaking!

I like to think that this machine can be made to be serviceable again, as I abhor throwing things out at the first sign of resistance. It does make a very good espresso and macchiato, and is worth holding onto.

If it decides to play once more...

EDITED to update:

I went back and pulled out the new seal, and gavve the area that the seal sits in, a forensic clean. A surprising amount of coffee grinds pooled at the bottom of the seal area (with the machine laying on it's back), and were easy to lift with a wet cloth.

I reinstalled the seal and gave it another run, and the results were exactly what I had hoped for. Changing my rating from 4 to 5 stars, because I think this little machine is very good for the price.

Sweet but short-you can't always get what you want – Much like the musical instrument itself, this coffee maker is small, sweet and can leave your tastebuds tingling with joy. But (and it's a bigger but than Sir Mix-A-Lot ever dreamed up) the shelf-life for this baby is short, sometimes shorter than the damn coffee itself. I've worked my through three of these machines now, each one lasting about… Read more

six months at best, and it's been moderate usage too, a couple of cups a day in the office, and even though the Piccolo hardly costs a song, I expect more than that length and usage from a purchase. I should have known better though, like the barista who keeps burning your coffee, Sunbeam seem to specialise in espresso makers that burn a hole in you pocket. No more though, they have burned their bridges with me this time at last. It's a shame really-despite the usual drawbacks with a Sunbeam machine (more leaks than a Liberal government, a cup holder you'd need tiny Trump hands to navigate etc) with the right brand of coffee and a little trial and error, the machine can make a decent cup of coffee. It would just be nice if it made a few more cups before it breaks down, but I guess it does prove that you get what you pay for-and I think next time I'll pay a bit more and hopefully get a better lasting machine. Be warned coffee lovers, you buy this machine at your risk and coffee should never be a gamble like this.

Great little machine – I already have two capsule machines..good ones..and although the coffee is pretty good if you drink several cups a day it costs a fortune. I didn't want to start with a very expensive machine.... expecting very little. I was so pleasantly surprised.. The coffee..from a supermarket espresso blend ..is amazing. The crema is thick and rich..I love how I can control the amount of water.. And for long coffee drinks I simply remove the drip tray just to fill a big cup. I haven't mastered the frothing yet but getting better. I don't know about the durability...haven't had it long enough.. But I have heard plenty about expensive machines breaking down so at the price I paid if it lasts the warranty period I will be happy. Oh by the way.. There is no comparison between the coffee this little beauty produces and what comes out of capsules. I use Robert Harris espresso Roma.

Unbeatable value – Great little performer. But as with all espresso machines, it needs to be paired with a good grinder that will cost you two to three times the price of the machine. The grinder is by far the most important component of a brewing setup and has the biggest effect on the flavour outcome. Only use freshly roasted coffee beans - purchased about two… Read more

Perfect coffee at bargain price – Had this machine for 6 years and have just had to replace the brew head seal ($15 delivered via eBay). Quick warm up and very easy to use.Makes perfect coffee and good milk frother. Never missed a beat just hope I can still get replacement deals when I next need to replace it. Not as stylish as some machines but the quality of the coffee is what counts. Show details ·  1

Very good coffee Great value – Had this machine for six years and hasn’t missed a beat. Makes excellent espresso and froths milk very well. Reasonable result – I've never had a machine before so perhaps I'm expecting to much. The machine is very easy to use. I don't use the frother. It makes a good cup of coffee and gives an excellent crema. However it isn't warm enough. Sunbeam replaced my first machine but the replacement is the same. been filled. It is also quite noisy. I bought because I wanted a cheap simple machine and Choice recommended it. If the coffee was hotter I'd be happy but because of that I couldn't recommend it. Incidentally the after sales service from Sunbeam was excellent. Quick, positive and helpful. I now just give the coffee a quick zap in the microwave to bring up the temperature.

Love my Piccolo – I’ve had my little Piccolo for around 7years and has been used every day. Unfortunately I’m going to have to buy a new machine pretty soon as the cup now stays stuck in the machine when I remove the wand and it hurts my arthritic hands to remove it. It’s been a brilliant. Fantastic Coffee Machine – I love this coffee machine. The stream wand to froth the milk is the perfect size, I used to be a barista and compared frothing the milk with the sunbeam vs my mum's expensive machine (cant remember the brand but it was a $600 purchase) and hands down the Sunbeam makes much better milk. If you're like me and only making 1-2 coffees a day then don't waste your money on a fancy machine - this is all you need.  Show details

Does the job – I purchased this machine to practise my milk frothing but this machines milk frother air nosel is not very strong so it takes abit longer than an industrial machine. That being said, it does make beautiful coffee, just like barista made if you get your milk right. It heats milk well. It is easy to use, a little noisy but not too bad, not enough to be annoying. Easy to clean and maintain, not too bulky so doesn’t take up much bench space.  Show details

a great taste. Similar to the double wall on the cafe series. Its perfect for a couple or small family who doesnt drink a million coffees a day. You can just froth milk and make hot chocolate too, It has nice pressure and I like how the spill tray can be taken out to fit a taller glass. Ideally for the price this is a steal. Nice coffee for a fraction of the price of other machines. What you save you can spend on beans. Its easy to fill and easy to clean. Nice one!

Works as it should – Bought this on ebay for my wife who just finished a barista course. Pretty basic but a good starting point to see if she continues interest. Makes all the coffees she learnt in the course (8?) and is good inexpensive fun. 12 months warranty which is good. Even if it only lasts a year or so, it is still good value at the $100 purchase price.  Show details

Ok – It was an ok machine. A little bulky so it was put in the cupboard, which meant that when I felt like coffee I usually couldn't be bothered taking it out of the cupboard and getting it ready. So in the 2 years I had it, I probably only used it less than ten times. It made nice tasting coffee although a little bit loud. Easy to operate. In the end i sold it on gumtree and bought a pod machine.  Show details

Great but hard to get the inserts out of the coffee holder – We purchased this machine from bigw about 6mths ago. It's a great little machine, doesn't easily fit a big cup but wasn't designed to! Another Leaking Piccolo Tale – I brought this machine to replace another Sunbeam espresso machine which ceased operating after about 14 months, and for the first year or so it worked fine; makes an average cup of coffee, everything worked as it should. Then the leak started; some kind of brown coffee infused water which I can't find the source of, and after another year or so… Read more

I'd tip the machine and find mosquito lava squirming all over the bench. Then the steamer kind of went all part time on me, so I'd have to switch it quickly to the coffee side then back to the steam side to trick it into working. The daily grind, as it became, no longer referred to the coffee. Finally I went to turn it off one day (it's probably about 2-2.5 years old at this point) and the button didn't turn off. It just stopped retracting, meaning it doesn't turn off straight away. I've left it on and it pops back out after 20-30 minutes. I'm not sure how many issues one person can have with a Sunbeam coffee machine, but when I spoke to their recommended repairer, they advised the machine doesn't even have replacable parts; they're basically not repairable. Good, because I think these machines (after seeing a plethora of people complaining about this bloody leak) are best left 6 foot under.

It takes the joy out of making coffee – This machine is probably worth every bit of the $99 I paid for it, which has taught me to never be so cheap when it comes to purchasing a coffee machine. served me well for many years). The cup filters are difficult to remove from the handle. The handle is extremely difficult to fit into the brewing head. And the machine leaks from somewhere. Aside from the flaws I have mentioned, once you've fought with all of the components and aggressively inserted them into place (as that is the only way possible) this machine makes a good espresso.
