Sparking in water tank – Iron heated up and after about 2-3mins of use a light spark flashes thru the water tank so it has sparked in bottom part of iron , then could smell burning smell. I then quickly turned off iron till the next day which I then tried it again , and the same happened . Not using it anymore .

Older Sunbeam irons also self destruct – Our Sunbeam iron destroyed itself today much to the concern of my wife who decided to do some ironing for a change up. Doesn't sound like such a good idea sticking with Sunbeam as a replacement. Not sure what to buy as I have always stuck with Sunbeam. Any suggestions out there?

Started Smoking And Sole Plate Bubbled – Turned iron on yesterday, within about a minute smoke started billowing from top of iron and sole plate started to bubble from intense heat inside the iron. Sole plate & sides of iron are warped. House smelled like there had been a brushfire, very acrid smell. Highly dangerous.

This iron does not steam – I have always been happy with Sunbeam irons and when I bought a new one I saw no reason to change brands - I have one now...this iron is so frustrating...it doesn't release steam most of the time. I would say all the time except occasionally it will for a few minutes and then stop again. I have never before felt the need to write a review of an… Read more

appliance but I would go so far as to say this is false advertising - an iron without steam is just a hot plate!

A disappointment – A disappointing product from one of my preferred brands. I've had it a while but because I haven't needed to use it too much it hasn't annoyed me to the extent I felt the need to voice angst. But it leaks all the time. requires topping up annoyingly often and now is spitting 'coloured' water.'It is light andhas a good slidy plate but the pesky stuff overides the good.

Started smoking and the front plate startede bubbling... got way to hot Fire hazard – House still smells of electrical fire. Very disappointing when your iron catches fire. I just wanted to iron, now i cannot.

Started smoking and the front plate statred bubbling – Had this iron for about 18 months, I like lots of steam when ironing and this iron didn't do the trick. Changing settings from hot to a lighter fabric takes affair bit of time to cool down (or you'll burn your clothes). Today I turned the iron, within 2 minutes there was smoke started coming out of the sides and the face plate started bubbling -… Read more

very dangerous. Not sure what went on with this iron but it was definitely internal and very much overheating. I was checking this site to see if this had occurred to anyone else?

Always buy Sunbeam but this one is disappointing – I have recently purchaed a Sunbeam Ultra 70 Platinum iron as I have previously been very happy with Sunbeam irons. However, this one doesn't seem to steam even when set on the steam function. This is confirmed by water in the tank not being used. Very disappointing for a well known brand. Long cord Does not steam

Very disappointed, both with product and customer service – I bought the iron in September 2011 and did not use it a lot. After a few months it started to randomly eject rusty particles and yellow water when ironing with steam. I was using filtered water and emptied the water tank at the end of each ironing session. Early April 2012 I contacted Sunbeam's customer service by e-mail describing the problem… Read more

and I received an automated message telling me that they would get back to me within 3 business days, but I never heard anything although I sent them a reminder at the end of April 2012. I finally returned the iron to the shop as there is a 2 year replacement guarantee. long cord, platinum soleplate, fast heat up It stained my clothes. Customer service was a let down.

bert – Missing the last el cheapo Sunbeam in the same range , because it had double steam all the time and was very light. Upgraded to Platinum model thinking the soleplate would last longer. Very disapointed. Gets very hot and stops steaming while ironing. Almost scorching clothes every time we use it. Need to constantly push shot of steam button to work and thus always refilling water. nothing don't risk your clothes

Pay a bit more and get the Ultura 90 with Resilium plate – I bought the Sunbeam Ultura 70 Platinum to replace my old Sunbeam with Resilium iron that I'd had for about 3 years until it just stopped one day.... I usually buy Sunbeam irons as i find they are light, easy to use and last for a reasonable amount of time. I find that when this iron gets down to the last bit of water that the automatic steam… Read more

function stops working so you need to keep it topped up - have actually been thinking about returning it as I like to iron hot and with plenty of steam as most of my ironing is on cotton clothing. The old iron kept steaming right up until the last drop was used.

I would suggest paying the bit extra to get the iron with the Resilium plate as this is such a breeze to use - never catches on anything and just slides over clothing, uses less water and temp settings seem more reactive. I have never ruined anything ironing until purchasing this new iron as it didn't cool down as quickly as my old iron when I ajusted the setting for a different fabric, unfortunately it was my daughter's good jacket and it is now unwearable...learnt the hard way :(

Comfy iron to use, doesn't topple over on ironing board, works adequately for the price! Sunbeam lightness and comfort to use. Doesn't keep steaming when water gets low.

Funtions work inaccurately – This is my 2nd or 3rd Sunbeam iron that has the Auto shut off function. But I am using it - ironing away - when it starts beeping to tell me that I have left it and am NOT using it and that is will shut itself down. The sensor must not work in this model. Uses alot of water too. beeps while using it

okay – This was the fourth Sunbeam iron I bought. The last 3 I had all lasted only about 12 months each and each time the iron emitted smoke and one actually caught on fire. This last one just stopped heating up and steam would not come out at all. Very disappointed in this brand. easy to use, long cord Expensive, did not last past 12 months once warranty expired

OK – Assuming this iron is NOT faulty I would definately give it a miss. This is my 3rd Sunbeam iron in a row (the first one was replaced by Myer under warranty). I am going to look at a different brand from now on. $99.95 from Target - definately NOT worth the money. Not much to be honest! Have just bought this iron 2 weeks ago to replace my old… Read more

Sunbeam (a good iron to use even though it occasionally tripped circuit breaker - from the day I bought it!!!). Thinking seriously about taking it back for a refund - ironing has become a tiresome chore. I buy Sunbeam irons because I like the weight of them and they are not too bulky. I cant get all the creases out of clothes - even though I have it set on full steam and on linen. Constantly topping up the water as it only really works Ok when water level is full. If I didnt know better I would say the iron was faulty

Good – I bought this iron to replace an old one that weighed a tonne and this iron is much lighter and easier to use due to having a really 'glidey' plate. It has some brilliant safety features that should be compulsory on all irons. Plenty of steam , a separate water spray, a shot of steam which is fabulous for collars and pressing and a really long… Read more

cord. The iron temperature is quick to adjust from hot to synthetics and as yet I haven't burned anything, which may be a first for me. The handle of the iron stays cold when using, and the iron functions well on all temperatures although maybe a little cool for linens; I found using fabric spray helped remove any creases whilst using the iron on cotton/ linen. Overall, as far as irons go this is really quite good and I would give it five stars but I hate ironing a bit too much for that. The Ultura 70 Platinum is light and has a really good non stick plate that glides easily over clothes. I think the safety cut out feature and alarm is a brilliant idea especially for those people like myself who are easily distracted due to an aversion to ironing. The iron will beep after 15 seconds of being left face down and if not corrected into the up-right position it will switch itself off. This same feature works if you leave the iron in the upright position for over 15 minutes unattended.

The steam on this iron is really good and shoots out with some degree of force although you may need to press the button several times. The dials are easy to read and the water filler is simple to fill and clear so that you can see how much water you have. Nothing really except that it is an iron and there isn't much to like about ironing. The iron will leak if you over fill the tank but the FULL level marker is quite clear on the iron so user care is probably wise.

Excellent – This is a great iron and while it is not the rolls-royce of irons, it does a good job. The teflon surface is still in top nick after using it for about a year and it glides nicely over the clothes. Like that it that it not only steams but sprays water over the clothes for those tricky creases. Haven't had any dramas with it which is why i often… Read more

buy sunbeam products. Reasonable priced compared to lots of others out there, love the fact that you don't have to keep filling up the water because it holds a lot. Also the long cord is handy too.

Bad – This iron is a complete disappointment. I bought this to replace my old iron that started to leak at the base. When I bought it, I told the salesman that I wanted an iron that definitely wouldn't leak & must have a great steam function. He sold me this iron & it's been a waste of time. Would never buy a sunbeam again. The only saving grace… Read more

was the free ironing board that I got with the iron. My husband's work clothes are really thick material & the steam is the only thing to get the creases out properly. This iron won't steam properly unless the water is up to the maximum level. As soon as it drops an inch or so below this, the steam stops completely (this is even when you have the steam setting on maximum). Does a good job when it's working properly. Has nice non-stick surface Steam is completely inconsistent. If it's too full of water, it spits it out all over your clothes in a pale brownish colour.
