OK – A good product which has been really helpful and useful, it would be better if a GPS signal could be found quicker so we can use the directions immediately when wee set off. Easy to use and stops all the map-reading arguments! We find it takes a long time to get a GPS signal so often have to drive for a few minutes before we can program where we… Read more

want to go. I called the manufacturer about this and they said it was due to our cars tinted windows, which seems strange that a satellite can't work through the tint!

OK – A good entry level GPS receiver to use in car with basic and easy to operate functions and is user friendly as well. It is easy to use and has a lot of information about shops and services at various locations already recorded. It is good that you can mark any errors you come across such as turn restrictions and upload them to a website and share… Read more

like information with other users. The screen is small. The unit I had failed after the warranty was out after twelve months in that it would not start up properly and was totally unusable.

OK – TomTom One V3 The problem with the TomTom freezing is very annoying and the lack of support from TomTom will make it unlikely that I'll purchase another TomTom in the future. This is my first GPS and I've found it really excellent (when it's not frozen) and an easy way for me and the wife to get around. Saved lots of arguements. Easy to find… Read more

where your going to. I don't need to write directions for my wife and she doesn't get stressed with directions...saves huge arguements. Not too expensive and has spoken street names. USed the TomTom on a recent holiday to Gold Coast, was great not having to worry about directions. The unit often freezes after it's been hooked up to the PC, wont accept the continue button or do anything other than power up or power down...always seems to do this when we're in a hurry. TomTom oline help and call centre not very helpful. Battery doesn't last very long without charge. The only voice that does spoken street names has a very annoying American accent and doesn't pronounce street names or suburbs correctly.

Good – Over all I have had this unit for a few years now, and havent had any major dramas, it has always got me to where I want obviously, in the shortest time, depending on how I configured it. Very easy to use, and store favourite destinations. Map updates are free, unlike some other brands where you have to pay for map updates. On some occassions the unit wont switch on, until I pull out the memory stick for some unknown reason.

Terrible – After the warranty period is over, the screen just freezes and even refused to respond to the power-down button. I connectted to the computer and did the restoring and downloading, etc, and then it moves from the initial screen to the screen with a list of commands, but it refuses to accept any command, it just power down every 6 minutes and power… Read more

up again by itself and stubbonly shows the way to the last destination that I set and would not go anywhere else. After another try, the map was lost.

The service guy on the support line suggests that I take it to be serviced (at 80 dollars an hour, and they don't know how many hours is needed to fix it, so it could run into a bill exceeding the price of a brand new device.), or alternatively purchase a new map to fix the problem, (can I return the new map if it doesn't fix the problem?) No, I cannot return the new map, I have to try it at my own risk. If the map doesn't work, sorry, you have to buy a new TOMTOM.

TomTom map cannot be copied to another memory card, you have to use it with the original memory card that comes with the machine. And if you like me, had a memory card failure, then you are stuck with a perfectly good device but without the memory card, it is just a piece of worthless scrap metal.

Would I buy another TOMTOM?

NEVER!!!!! Does a basic job within warranty period. As soon as warranty period is over, it stopped working. Service sucks.

Good – I am a first time user of a gps. I have version 8. Programing a known address was easy enough but there is a lot of other features I find differcult. As I learn one feature I will move to the next one I guess Keep in mind I will only use it when going to a unfamiliar place or visiting a unfamiliar area.It has done that very well. It does want to… Read more

send you down main roads even if it means going backwards for a bit. I think it will be very useful for me in finding places to park a problem I always fear. It will also be handy to walk around places with it in my pocket

One thing I did hate was the fact that "points of Interest" section were not up to date Some things on the list should be deleted as they no longer exist. Other thn that So far i'm happy with it. Small enough to put in your pocket

Clear voice Some places in the "points of Interest" no longer exist

a lot of other features A little tricky to learn

Excellent – This unit is awesome, i haven't had any drama's what so ever with it, i programmed a trip from vic to nsw and the tom tom gave me an estimated time of arrival, the trip was a 9 hour trip and i was 15 mins faster than the unit estimated which is pretty impressive. The menu is fast and easy to use while driving on the road, the maps and navigation… Read more

Terrible – I recently bought a second TomTom One V3 as a birthday present for my wife. It worked beautifully straight out of the box, as promised. I connected it to TomTom Home on my PC, set it all up & left it for a few hours to charge. Since it's our second unit (albeit a newer version), I was very familiar with the operation. After charging, we went on… Read more

the road to check it out. Surprise, surprise - it wouldn't turn on. With a sinking feeling, we went inside, reconnected it to the PC but all to no avail. Something was no longer working. Following day I rang the distributor who gave me a contact number of the TomTom Service place in Sydney. Luckily it was a 1300 number because I had to hold on for about 15 minutes but the music was pleasant enough. I was asked to send the unit in - registed mail, my own cost. OK, these things happen. I parted with $17 & a week later the unit arrived with a note that the mother-board was replaced but all is functioning well now. Unfortunately it wasn't. The unit now worked on its own but it wouldn't connect to the PC. Just to make sure, I connected my old TomTom which worked perfectly. Another call, another request to sent it in, another $17, another week, another message that all problems have now been rectified. You guessed it - nothing has changed and the unit still wouldn't connect. It has now gone back a third time & it's been away over a week. Perhaps its not coming back. I really wouldn't miss it & neither can I recommend it. A few more returns & I will just about cover the cost of the unit. Poor show, TomTom. Surely it would be cheaper & more efficient to just replace it. It is a brand-new unit after all! Easy to use, interactive, great range of options, does what it's designed to do, maps generally good USB port for power connection mounted on the base (why?), power light mounted on top, out of sight (why) but most importantly, service!, service!, service!
