Topfield TRF-7150

No longer tunes channels in – This has what looks like a tuner issue where it will not store and display dtv anymore. Was told by Topfield service agent not worth repairing due to age. Worked for 5 years, so can't really complain too much. Not expected to last forever. Nothing will these days. To the reviewer complaining of poor picture quality due to the tuner. The tuner… Read more
relies on signal strength and QUALITY from the antenna. If your free to air (freeview) picture is poor, the problem lies in your antenna installation, not the tuner. Just an FYI for you.
UPDATE: this turned out to be a power supply issue with a few blown caps on the psu board. It was repaired by an electronic repairer in Fairfield west, Sydney, Easytrading Electronics and was less than $100. So much for the service agent who was too lazy to open it and have a look. He was only interested in trying to sell me a new one.
Another Unhappy Topfield customer. It just stopped working one day. Buyer beware, you will be bett – I have read other reviews about Topfield PVRs and STBs. The complaints are real and clearly not isolated. The unit has annoying features when it works properly (too many to list - others have said it all). It doesn't record some programs, it deleted every single recorded program one day and today, it just won't turn on past the time display. … Read more
Clearly repairs etc are an even bigger pain than the unit itself. The unit has been looked after kindly, kept clean and with plenty of ventilation. The PVR was pricey at the time of purchase and so all this means I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER TOPFIELD AGAIN. If you are silly enough any Topfield, you are playing Russian Roulette as you have every chance of being shot.
Topfield NOT the top of the field – Purchased for $600 in 2009, this product has been a problem. After 18 months of ordinary domestic use, minor problems such as newly recorded programmes began dropping off list. In Nov, 2011 it stopped loading altogether. A fault (L330) was diagnosed. Returned to JB HI Fi and successfully argued product not of merchantable quality. Although out of… Read more
warranty it was repaired free of charge to me. Now the same thing has happened again. With prices of new set top boxes lower and repair costs rising, this product has not delivered value for money. When it worked it was ok. Programmes lost off recorded list; Would not load to operate any functions. Useless.
Stay away from this product – Bought this PVR as Xmas gift for my partner in 2009. Has not worked properly since I bought it. Has been under repair 4 times, with 3 attempts at replacing the motherboard. Didn't consistently record when set via timer. Lost saved files - couldn't retrieve them. Disappeared from the file listing inexplicably. Signal would also drop out… Read more
unexpectedly and if this happened while it was recording it would simply lose what was ever being recorded - no part of the recording was saved. Would often stall as shutting down with WAIT indefinitely displayed on the front of the unit until it was pulled out at the plug. Repairers have given up on it and it is being replaced under extended warranty after only 15 months. Won't be buying another Topfield product with the credit! large HDD highly unreliable and not user friendly. User Guide was next to useless for troubleshooting.
OK – We bought this recorder from oo.com.au cheap (repacked). It has a big hard drive and you can add another external hard drive. Can watch one channel while recording another. Can pause and rewind/fast foward live tv. Overall, pretty good for what we paid. Relatively easy to use. not as expensive as some other brands. Big hard drive Does seem a… Read more
little cheap in some areas; particularly the circular button on the front of the device that changes channel/volume. My 9 month old loves to touch it and I'm sure it's going to be broken in no time because it's quite plasticy. Menus could be better designed and I have absolutely no idea what some of the buttons on the remote do as the pictures are not all that helpful.
Poor picture quality – Got this for higher hard drive capacity than my Strong SRF 549 PVR, assuming that the tuner quality would be in the ball park. I've since gone back to the Strong as the tuner in the Topfield didnt cut the mustard at all. Certainly not 'top of the field'! I'd recommend Strong any day - their tuners are very well made, but this just seems like a… Read more
generic one that you'd get in any cheap Chinese LCD television ie hugely lacking definition and colour depth - even with an HDMI connection. If this is an example of the difference between Strong and Topfield, I'd say 'Get with the strength' every time. A technician told me that PVR tuners are generally superior to inbuilt TV tuners, but not always it would seem. price tuner inadequate
Bad – Worked well for 12 months but the heat it generates and the reliability seems to be a problem. I would not buy this product again! The 500gb hard drive is very attractive and the price is right! It gets very hot and has to carefully situated. Mine was replaced after 2 weeks because of a fault. It went well for 12 months but now it has been in the… Read more
repairers twice, first to replace the mainboard, which lasted one week and it has now been back in the repairer's for 3 weeks and no indication when it will be fixed, as they are again waiting for a mainboard from Topfield. I'm about to go out and buy a Panasonic!
Terrible – First hard drive failure was fixed under warranty, but that took 6 weeks. The EPG is poor, and general user interface is poor. One annoyingly stupid feature is that if you (or someone else) set the timer to record a program, and are watching something else when the timer kicks off, it switches to the program you are recording, rather than… Read more
leave you on the program you are watching. Big hard drive Have had 2 hard drives fail.
