WHAT DO I DO NOW – Was given my unit as a present. Even though I had always said I would never use a GPS in my car, I have found it pretty useful and not too hard to operate. Probably had it about 4 years now and it will not charge properly now and of course the maps are totally out of date. I have not had any success getting updated maps or replace the battery. … Read more

What do I do now? Chuck it in the bin or try to revive it? The touch screen is still working OK.

Does any body have any suggestions?

I do not live far from Uniden's Rockdale location but do not know if they handle repairs and updates.

Cant charge it or update maps. Why do I need to be on facebook to ask a question. it sucks!!! It suc – Cant charge the device, cant get map updates. USB is not recognised. And why do I have to be on frigging facebook to be able to submit a query. It all sucks. My TomTom is much more user friendly. Would never recommend the uniden to anyone. Such a waste of money. I don't want to communicate with you, it's not been used much & it's a bleeding lemon

It's a GPS...just – Bought my IGO500 mid 2015, found it easy to use and reliable to operate (unlike some temperamental popular brands that have fits and touchscreen issues). After a while I realised I needed to update maps, what a load of crap, my computer went nuts after trying to access the update site. So I don't have updated maps, it's terrible at selecting route… Read more

options and the battery is not replaceable and doesn't hold charge after barely 6 months. So yea, it's functionally good as far as the touchscreen and menu navigation, but barely adequate if you actually want to get where you're going. Bit of a shame really that UNIDEN hasn't addressed the updating issues, could've been a decent unit.

Update- so 2 years later I'm still using this same GPS, without updated maps. The battery still doesn't hold charge for long BUT... it's still working fine, still very easy to use. Just have to keep it on the charge when using it. Without the updated maps It's only sent me off course twice, so all in all for a cheaper alternative to Navman etc. it's definitely been worth it.

Best GPS around – Used it for many years, finally died (screen became unresponsive) last week. Replaced it with a TomTom VIA225 Today...what a pile of crap! Seriously! You have to manually turn it on EVERY TIME you start the car...and, the power button is in the worst position ever...it's at the back so you have to move the entire thing every time you get in the… Read more

car just to turn it on??? Took it back and swapped for the Navman MY450LMT...This unit does switch on and off automatically, but you have to accept the safety agreement every frigging time it turns on, then wait for the menu screen and choose the map option from that before it's ready...[censored word removed]? The uniden simply turned on with ignition and went straight to the map...no F***ing around with licenses or menu screens...looks like i'll be taking this Navman back as well and try to find someone who sells the Unidens!

Don't buy this – Bought the Uniden iGO500WT from office works for $99 when the GoCruise finally died. It is very similar software and operation. It was supposed to come with 3 years free maps but it is impossible to get any free maps. I went through the lengthy emailing process to get the code for the maps but the useless naviextas website wouldn't accept the… Read more

code.

Also the naviextras toolbox won't work.

I have requested a refund because it is not worth the ridiculously difficult process to update maps.

Also I would avoid anything that uses the naviextras website or programs because it is crap.

Could have been a good unit but not worth it when there are products with lifetime map updates that actually work.

The TomTom I have has been very easy to update by comparison to this useless article.

Very Happy with it – This is my fifth Uniden IGO500 unit and overall I am very happy with it. Two have failed due to the flimsy Micro USB port but were replaced immediately without question by Officeworks.I love the features and use it nearly every day. The trip planning and trip monitor are my favourite features. I use it on both of my motorcycles and in two cars as… Read more

well. For the price paid it cannot be beaten, despite not having Bluetooth. I do miss the mini phono output of the older model as I used to plug in my headset on the bike. That one destroyed itself when it hit the bitumen at 110 kph. It fell off the mount on the handlebars, MY FAULT. Amazingly the screen was destroyed but the unit kept beeping at me for days afterwards, telling me that the battery was nearly flat. Other than needing to be very careful with the power cord (the older unit had the larger/stronger Mini USB, not the newer/weaker Micro USB) the only thing that I do not like is the fact that most of the displayed speed limits are incorrect. I currently have two of these units and would definitely buy another. The reason that I have had so many is that I give them a pretty rough time on the bikes and usually end up breaking them but I like the features and format so much that I have failed to find even an expensive one that can compare on features/performance/value. Price, features, performance. Weak Micro USB connector.

Don't waste your money – Dont waste your money . I Bought the latest model.IGO 500. Continually says recalculating route when it's not or there is no reason for it to be doing it. It takes a while to start unless its connected to the charger even when fully charged. Now it's just stopped working after 6 months. It comes on but there is nothing on the screen? The only… Read more

places it can be serviced / repaired are are so far away I'll need to post it. Can't update the maps either. Graphics are quite good .different options for finding places if you don't have an exact address Not worth the money ,after 6 months gone blank and won't work

A reasonable product – This unit can find some out of the way places but cannot recognise some major towns. 2 examples are innisfail and herberton, both old well established north queensland towns. I used it to drive to an area near rockhjampton called iron pot. But could not locate innisfail. I have the latest updates installed. For general use this unit is really poor quality. Unusable in some areas

Uniden IGO 500 GPS – The speed alert we use to limit going over the speed limit, gives false readings for side roads at 50 kph while you are travelling on a 80 kph 4 lane road. Uniden has said update maps. But this is a GPS function. The Speed limits are correct for the road, the false readings are there for a second then back to the 80kph. Good options, 100% for speed alert, maps good Speed Alert is out of alignment, reset unit occassionally

Uniden IGO500 Are Rubbish – Bought three of these units. 2 failed to function after 12 months (just happens to be outside of warranty). I expect a product to last more than 12 months and not checking fine print didn't realise such a limited shoddy warranty was offered. Basically a rubbish product and any manufacturer that is not prepared to warranty their items for 3… Read more

years should be avoided. I have a fleet of vehicles and the rest have Navman. Even a trial of two super crappy Navigons from Woolworths out performed and outlasted the Uniden. I bought the top of line Uniden as well ($346 a pop). Never again

Professional Grade GPS – This unit has had some bad reviews and to be honest it deserves most of them. However. I bought one to use at work and while it did the job it did frustrate me from time to time and it did have reliability issues however I hadn't used anything else to compare it to. I had an IGO43 which died a premature death so I went looking for a new one.… Read more

A different one. Now this is where I had serious problems. I couldn't find anything better, and really importantly, I couldn't find anything that has the same professional route management tools that this unit has.

Entering an address into this unit is precise and logical. Maybe a few extra steps than some other units but those few extra steps are just what a professional wants. No fuss. It remembers your favourite destinations and offers them up as an easy choice although you can just as easily enter a new one. Some of the other brands are just illogical or annoying at the point that you enter an address.

Route management. You can easily enter a route of 20 or so destinations (I haven't found its limit although it would have to have one) and it will either do one destination after the other as you entered them or you can ask the unit to sort the route for you. You don't like the route it chose? Easy. You can manually edit the list and arrange them as you like. Wow.

I couldn't find anything at any price that will do this.

So yes, after the first one died a premature death I've bought a second one. An IGO50. Hard to argue with.

So yes it has faults and yes many of the criticisms made by others are fair but when it comes down to it its a professional tool without peer at anything like its price. Buy it while you can but keep the receipt safe. Professional grade GPS with full route management functions. It can be unreliable and like all GPS units it can be annoying.

IGO500 issues – Bought this unit as it seemed good value for money. The first unit was returned soon after for a faulty power input socket, Uniden replaced with a complete new package quickly. A year later I got similar results from the replacement unit plus the display also started playing up. It also has a poor display in daylight and it won't turn it on… Read more

unless its been plugged in for around 10 minutes at least. Ours only gets used occasionally. Would not recommend this unit unless it has had serious updates. Thin unit, 3D maps were interesting... substandard display in daylight, power input sockets faulty, twice.

Waste of money – Speed limits hopeless. Cannot see in daylight. Voice instructions way behind visual. Speed limit through Dingle Vic is 60. The unit shows 50. Once past Dingle limit changes to 70. Unit shows 50. Pathetic. Other areas also show incorrect speed limits. Cannot see the screen in daylight too well. All in all a disappointment and I would not… Read more

recommend wasting money on it. I have tried many different makes and none of them are perfect. Thin, verbal speed warnings. Many things

I read the previous review and could not find any others on the internet, so i assumed it would be good as i had owned the older uniden nav before this one, I bought this, and it is the worst nav ever! Not too bad as a paper weight! – The Uniden iGO43 is absloutely useless in daylight as you can't see the screen! Constantly loses GPS signal and anounces, "Recalculating route" - even when vehicle is stationary! Frequently freezes and has to be reset! Uniden support told me that there was nothing wrong with the unit and all Nav's have the same problems! Because of continuing… Read more

problems I decided to scrap it and start again - good way to waste $200! I will definitely steer people away from Uniden products in future! I now use a Garmin nüvi® 2595LMT and have never had a single problem with it. Thin profile. Can't see screen in daylight. Loses GPS signal constantly. Frequently "freezes" and has to be reset. Poor support.

Good – New Zealand map included. Low price as good as $120. Nice for highway as it shows which lane to take. It also display the green road sign in the highway: M2,M5,M7. Screen hard to see during the day with bright sun reflection in the dashboard. Otherwise 10/10. Highly Recommended. New Zealand map included. Tomtom needs to buy NZ map for $80. Nice… Read more

What a crock – Can't see screen in daylight. Fiddly and difficult to attach and detach to both windscreen and in its own cradle. Constantly loses gps signal and tells everyone this.
