don't buy – the battery dies after a year and you can't get a replacement its nothing more than a throw away camera don't ever, ever, ever buy, just throw the $250.00 dollars in the trash, stay away from Radio Shack they still sell this piece of junk and their customer service is a joke nice camera for a throw away battery, battery, battery and Radio Shack still sells it
the model is Vivitar 990HD with a rechargable battery
Cannot find a replacement battery
Best value for the money – After going through several value priced camcorders this one has the best value for the money. Imagine 23x (optical not digital) zoom, up to 10 Mb for pics when most of the time 5 Mb will do just fine unles you are blowing up pictures, then go to 10 Mb. Easy to work with touch screen! Got it at Radio Shack on sale for $200 down from $250 and decided to get the 8 Mb flash card (the fast one) on special for $20 down from $30. So the discount paid for the flascard and then something left for a small lunch. Also, it has a real flash, not LED light that lights up maybe one meter from you, this flash is the real McCoy. All in all very happy even though it took several tries (about 5) from other manufacturer and none has made me this happy, so happy I bought one for my son too! Whole package, nice looking, works great, easy to use.

Battery Issue? I don't doubt you have a battery issue with some camera, I'm just not sure that you are commenting on the correct model. If you do have a Vivitar 949HD then maybe you should have replaced the 4 AAA batteries instead of throwing it away.
