Second hand junk was a diamond – I bought this machine at a garage sale. It was "stuffed" but I had a bag that would fit it so thought "why not?"; paid $10 for it. I didn't even get it home as I put it on a boat (old sailor) in a marina and went to work on it. I took out the bag...it was full...and the filter was clogged...so cleaned that. I put in the new bag, switched it on and… Read more · 1
it went perfectly. I cleaned the boat...years of grot...and took it home. I've vacuumed the house several times and the suction is unreal...extremely good. A few minor defects but I guess it is a few ears old.
So how does it fare? Not as good as the Kirby on carpet...what is?.....but still does a good job..(turbo I suppose).and the small rotating head thingy is fab for getting in those "out of the way" spots between dining table chairs and gaps in the old timber floors. No way I could afford a new one so am over the moon with this. My suggestion: as it has such good suction clean the filters OFTEN.
Rolls Royce Motor - Lada body – It has finally karked it after 10 or so years. So why am I giving it 1 star. Constant broken components. I think I paid about $1,200 for it in 2007. So expensive and it did a great job. But I replaced the following components Telescopic wand/pole x 3. First one was delivering electric shocks Power head x 2 Powerhead drive belt x 4 Various… Read more
clips - lost count
Power head goose kneck connection x 3
Pistol grip x 2
Powerhead base plate x 3
Hose x 2
Power cord rewinder x 1
Finally the motor gas died a smelly electrical death.
When nothing is broken it worked really well on hard surfaces and carpets. Great for pet hair etc. But there is always something that was broken or would just let go.
The whole thing, apart from the motor is cheap and under engineered. Flimsy cheap plastic clips and connectors were sooooo frustrating. Thanks for sucking me in Godfreys.
Mum had an old green Electrolux for ever and it worked. If Wertheim are listening......over priced junk guys. A Rolls Royce motor in a Lada body.
Way Overpriced – We've used it only 6 or so times in the last couple of years as our original machine (20 year old Volta) took longer than expected to "die". The Wertheim an example of a few things..... - just because it's expensive (really expensive when bought a few years ago) doesn't mean it's any good - just because it's a Wertheim doesn't mean it's any… Read more
good
- just because it has a Powerhead doesn't mean the Powerhead is powerful
- just because it's sold by "The Vacuum & Cleaning Specialists!" doesn't mean it's any good.
It feels very 'plasticy' and cheap.
Wheels are so small the machine won't roll over it's own electric cord.
The head on the machine won't fit under most of our lounges whereas the previous machine's did.
The Powerhead revolutions slow down considerably when going from a tiled surface onto our carpet, but, ours is a fairly deep pile (see below re Godfrey's instore demonstration).
The pole(?) on the machine is functional, being extendible and having a handle to grip.
The machine does vacuum but I expected better overall performance considering its cost.
Will be more diligent before buying from Godfreys again. Looking back, the in store demonstration was totally biased, (the sand/fluff etc they use, the extremely low pile carpet they use and the differing quality machines they use), to make their more expensive products appear really efficient.
If you do insist on buying from them I'd suggest you take a piece of your own carpet (or something similar) and see how effective their products are on it before you buy.
Terrible product – Endless litany of failures (wands, powerhead motor, switches, fittings, etc etc etc) has seen the exorbitant initial cost of this piece of rubbish climb ever higher now its out of warranty. Godfrey's are having a laugh, surely? $900+ for something worth about $100. Suction, when it was working.
Expensive junk – Agree with all previous comments. Was initially happy despite weight and poor manoeuvrability as got the carpet so clean. Am sick to death of the thing breaking down. The connection to the power head keeps failing. Have replaced it so many times have lost count. Pile of expensive junk. Will never buy this brand again Cleans well when working
Hate Encapsulated cables!!! – Cumbersome rod design breaks up in 3 bits, 4 if you use the separate dust collector. The powerhead is BOUND for a short life so some many connections in the systems! I had a much better time with my old wertheim and the silly looking external cable with ONE connection! EXPENSIVE so I guess they want to put more bits into to make it LOOK… Read more
expensive...I'm going for a cheaper vac next...miele/dyson (never used them) but I am staying outta godfrey's from now on! Worked brilliantly for a few months Everything else
Dont buy one – Problems with extendable rod jamming even though lubricated, bag retainer broke due to weakness and poor design. doesnt follow you around very well, always hung up on something. brush tool has to be held on when using. turns housework into an absolute pain in the [censored word removed]. never buy from godfreys again, this is apparently their… Read more
brand. perhaps designed to make the money. wish I knew about this site years ago!!!!! Suction power not bad Everything other than suction
Bad – Easier to climb onto the roof and clean the gutters than vacuum with this thing! I would not reccomend this to anyone! Has power! They say its light weight....they lied!!!Very heavy....Like everyone else who has written a review i too dread vacuuming!!! So heavy to pull along...I got fooled too by Godfrey's! Very angry with myself! Very difficult to change bit & pieces, footing etc.

Wertheim and Godfreys; Rubbish product and service – For such an expensive machine, my experience has been very poor. This was our second machine. The first one blew up after five years of very light work. We thought we may have just had a one off bad machine, but the suction of the first machine, when working, was so good we thought we would give Wertheim another go. Bought a second Wertheim, bad… Read more
choice.
The machine, with the powerhead attachment, ran well until the first service, from Godfrey's Morayfield Qld., where the machine was purchased.
From that service on the vacuum had less suck than a toothless wombat.
We raised this issue with Godfrey's and were advised to buy more expensive Wertheim bags, which we did, but nothing improved.
Finally, after 4 years of a very light work load, the motor burnt out. We had it checked by a registered mechanical engineer who advised us the fault definitely was a manufacturing flaw.
We took this information back to Godfreys, whose after sales service would be the worst of any company I have dealt with, to be basically told; "Tough luck, buy a new one, we don't care."
We were told they would charge us a $50.oo postage fee to send the machine off to be examined by their service dept.
This, of course, is just another rip off.
Godfreys after sales service is atrocious.
Wertheim is now a brand I will discourage any one from wasting money on, and also would discourage anyone from purchasing goods from Godfreys. Great suction for the first 6 mths. Over priced and poorly manufactured, very bad warranty service.
Very efficient and adaptable to different surfaces and areas.More work needed on optional dust shoot – I previously had an upright vacuum because I didn't like how the other ones always got under your feet. This vacuum is great because it has an extremely long vacuum tube and is easy to maneuver. The head allows you to go flush to the floor so you can vacuum right under low items of furniture. the only disadvantage is the optional dust shoot that… Read more · 1
attaches near the handle (it means you don't need to use bags. The shoot attaches to the wrong side of the shoot so when the handle turns to go under low items of furniture it can't go as low to the floor as needed. Also the shoot has a tiny little clip that joins it to the attachment which snapped off in the first week. I superglued it back on but now the other side has snapped off and I can't find it. A piece of sticky tape now stops the shoot from dropping off while vacuuming. Vacuums everything up
A piece of expensive excrament – I had an old wertheim and was happy with it so I invested in a new one. What a mistake that was. I hate it and therefore my house doesn't get cleaned often. The worst thing is that on full it sucked up my loop pile carpet if it was standing still on it and left fluffy loops. ruining my excellent wool carpet. Godfreys said just don turn it up full… Read more
on the carpet. I am sure that is why i bought this sucker in the first place to get full power. it should be flushed down the toilet where it belongs if it would fit. JGW
killed my woolen loop pile carpet
I feel conned, worse buy ever – I hate this vaccum, cost us $900 and was ment to last us 10 years easy but we have struggled to get 4 out of it, although it has a 5year motor warranty thats about all that works on it, the 10years worth of services are a losd of BS and the after sales service is very poor all they want you to do is pasy out more and more. Brought mine from… Read more
godfreys brownsplains and is easy.the worse purchase I have EVER made.
Unit is heavy a difficult to lugg around. The power head befor it broke
Terrible – We were shown this by Godfreys salesman who did the deep clean challenge for us. We were impressed. At $1049 we were looking forward to 10 years or so of great cleaning. We were therefore extremely disappointed (and disgusted) that it stopped working on the 4th use! The bad full indicator came on when using the power head despite the fact that I… Read more
had just changed the bag. After dismantling the power head (not easy), I discovered the pipe was completely clogged up with dust and pet hair. After cleaning it, the bag full indicator kept coming on. I managed to vacuum for a while using the hose with the upholstery attachment until it too stopped working. It too was completely full of dust/pet hair. The bag had hardly any dust in it, meaning most of it was being caught in the pipe.
I returned the vacuum to Godfreys and was told to take it home and that it wouldn't happen again. I did not believe him so paid an extra $200 to swap it for a Miele S5980 and have so far been extremely happy with it. I would not buy another Wertheim again. Worked well in the beginning. Easy to change bags. Not much else Stopped working after 4 uses. Power head and hose pipe both totally blocked with normal dust and pet hair. Difficult to switch on and off (button on canister was temperamental). Could not switch vacuum on and off from hand control, only the power head. Very noisy, particularly when using power head. Could not vacuum under couch as could not swivel power head. Power cord not very long. Power head often turned off automatically when cord got slightly twisted. Cheap plastic parts.

Know better, choose better.
Be wary of specialist vacuum retailers, and do your research before purchasing a vacuum – We visited Godfreys to get a new vacuum. We wanted a bagless system, but the salesman talked us into the Wertheim with Germatrac bags as being more efficient than bagless hepa filtration. We were very impressed with the Wertheim's superior suction power to begin with, but were a little perturbed by the weight of the unit and awkwardness of the… Read more
power head. After a while the power head belt burned out and needed replacing. Then the rod arm seized up. We replaced the rod arm ($60) which promptly seized up again. Then the connection on the power head became loose meaning the powerhead would engage/disengage during vacuuming as the connections made/lost contact. We took it back to Godfreys at Stockland Glendale Supercentre and put it in for a service to repair the powerhead connections. They tried to charge us again for a new rod arm ($60). Upon getting it home we noticed they had done nothing to repair the connections, only performed a standard service, despite numerous phone calls on my part to ensure the connections were repaired. Upon returning the unit to Godfreys Glendale they stated the repair was not covered in the service and it would cost us more to repair the faulty connections.
We paid $800 in good faith expecting 10 years lifespan out of the unit. We walked away after 4 years (still within motor warranty) because we could see it was going to cost us more and more to keep it in operation, and this was not why we forked out so much to begin with, and we feel conned by Godfreys but talking us into a system fraught with what appears to be expensive planned obsolescence.
We have now purchased a cheap bagless system from Kmart, which for the record does not perform as well as the Wertheim did on deep pile in it's heyday, but at only $200, if it lasts us 2 years it will end up being more economical than the Wertheim. We have since replaced the deep pile rug so we're even better off with the new system. great suction, power head awesome on deep pile not lightweight at all, makes vacuuming unnecessarily laborious, shocking after sales service, expensive to repair
Will never buy or recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone – Agree with many comments entered. Bought ours from Godfreys and was recommended how great a buy it was. Powerhead is excellent for carpet but band on it keeps breaking. $10.00 to replace at each service. We have had nothing but problems with this. We have had to replace the rod, vacuum head, which was fortunately just under warranty. 3 years on… Read more
the cleaner is burning out and after reading other comments am not confident is worthwhile to fix. After service is woeful also through Godfreys. My $200 vacuum cleaner never had a problem and that one was not looked after. Powerhead and suction Way too expensive and nothing but problems. Stay right away from it.
So agree with all comments my werthiem is 4yrs old, and every time i pull it out of cupboard… Read more
Terrible – I had a fantastic Wertheim purchased in 1997, lasted until 2010. It died and I decided on puchasing a new one through Godfrey's rather than an overhaul/rebuild. I hate this new Wertheim with a passion and it's only 6 months old. Have thought about offloading it onto some poor sucker via Ebay but might just "gift" it to someone starting out who has… Read more
no vac at all. I do like seeing the dust collect in the interceptor. Can't believe carpets harbour so much rubbish. Extremely cumbersome wand, odd shaped accessories, if you turn the machine off (eg. to move to another power point) the power level defaults back to full blast, and worst of all, the hard plastic inlet that slots into the vacuum bag only just goes in (more like it sits on the top), and does not make a firm seal, therefore dust & rubbish gets blown all around the internal cavity before the bags is anywhere near full.
Terrible – Don't want to use it, I dread vacuuming now more than ever, paid $700. I would not recommend to anyone, vacuuming is a pain as it is - don't make your life harder with this piece of junk, got fooled by Godfreys salesman, my own fault. My previous little Hoover $299 was a cracker, eventually died after 10 years. Thought I'd upgrade to a better… Read more
machine, what a joke, should have just gone and thrown $700 bucks in the street. If I can save someone from this waste of doe then head my warning !! Good sucking power - thats all ! Very heavy, difficult to manoeuvre, short nozzle can't get into small places, difficult to pull apart, cord gets stuck under the wheels all the time and machine won't roll over the top, cord also not that long, cumbersome and uncomfortable handle, lid on accessories hatch pops open if you slightly bump it and its noisey....should I go on ?
Terrible – Have tried and tolerated this product for 1 month and very very disappointing. Bought from Godfreys under the belief it was one of the best brands. So not user friendly and uncomfortable to use. Would never consider or recommend. Will not persist with this cleaner and seeking return for replacement. Great power. So heavy it is unbearable to use.… Read more
Extremely difficult to change fittings, wand, heads etc. Hard to move about on a plush pile carpet. Very loud. Cord gets stuck under vacuum easily (because of non smooth finish). Power head difficult to maneuver. Power up and down buttons jam constantly so you can never get the power level to stay where you want it.
Excellent – I have bought several vaccum machines throughout my life and became terrified from buying new ones as they might not measure up against a very old Hoover my parents have had for ages (sadly they don't make them to last anymore)... So I bought a Sanyo (which barely made it on hard floors) following which i bought the H2O Vac Turbo (which was a… Read more
complete joke). After that I borrowed my friend's dyson c23 with that turbo air rotary head (to try it out) which was good but didn't really pick EVERYTHING off of the carpet. So I decided to "INVEST" and bought the Hoover Hygiene Plus with the powerhead for $499... But after reading 62 reviews here and found that they all had common problems i returned it the next day without even opening the package and finally decided to get the 4410 ($699).
I am happy to report that this machine is by far the best I have seen... It sucked out everything and the electric powered head made moving that thing alongst the carpet smooth and easy... Nosise was minimal (for a vaccum machine) and the thing was built to withstand hits from walls, furniture and kids... very long cord which makes the entire apartment (2 bdr) easy to reach from 1 or 2 outlets... This baby sucked out so much stuff that filled an entire bag the first time i used it (after using the dyson and the h2o vac)... Goes to say that other machines picked NOTHING compared to this beast. I now can't wait to vaccum the place again :) Strong suction, electrical power head, very stong exterior, smooth and quiet Nothing (so far)
Terrible – I had an older wertheim and loved it. The newer ones just don'e stack up. Everyhing I loved about my older one does not function propperly on this one. It appears to be a lot cheaper in quality, yet cost over $100!! I wouldn't recommend buying one at all... research other models, like the Dyson which I now have and love pwer head does not… Read more
work as well at home as in the store, it is a very expensive machine ot maintain... the bands on teh power head keep breaking costing $20 to repair each couple of months
OK – How is it that you pay $1200.00 for this vacuum and only get 1 year warranty. Could have gone to the Warehouse and paid $200.00 for one that is as good. Recommend you do not buy this model. Very unhappy. The Variable Speed Control is shot. Will definetly never buy another one. Good vacuum cleaner. Has good suction. We called the dealer Clive Dicks, NZ. Only has warranty for one year. Dealer we bought from is of no help.
Good – I would only recommend this vacuum cleaner if you have a lot of carpet. This is what it does best. The powerhead is the best feature and cleans carpets really well, they come up looking new and very clean, no more of that grey dust look on top of the carpet. It is quite heavy to lug around, about 10kg, especially if you have stairs or are not very… Read more
fit or mobile (eg. pregnant, elderly). It can be a pain to keep changing from powerhead to hard floor device all the time. It is not bagless although this may be a good thing as I have a bagless attachment and everytime I empty it outside dust flies everywhere. Also I don't think it has all those special filters for asthma/allergy sufferers.
Good – I had an older model wertheim which I was not impressed with, but got talked into this one by a persuasive sales man. Generally works well, the power head it the best feature, it is not so good on floorboards and slate. I bought the bagless adapter for $80 and really like not having to use bags, but it is small and needs emptying often. Overall… Read more
satisfied with this product. The powerhead is great, picks up pet hair on carpet very well. Difficult to clean the power head, hair gets stuck and you need to dig it out.
OK – So far so good, nice compact and light and easy to use, GREAT for pet hair removal from the rug in the lounge room and carpets in the bedroom, Was very surprised to see just how much it had sucked up...... Great Sucker in my opinion!!! Fingers crossed it will stay that way....... Traded in the Bissell All-Rounder on the Wertheim 4410 so far so good :) its lighter than the Bissell.
