We have owned this fridge for 21yrs now and its still going strong, its the best value large appliance purchase we ever made. We have replaced a couple of door shelves and thats the only issue we had, total wear and tear. Damn awesome fridge. Here is a hint: We have had 2 times it stopped cooling, that was because we had items blocking the vents… Read more
in the fridge, they iced up and air could not circulate, we defrosted the vents and bobs your uncle, it was back to cooling efficiently again.
This fridge has given us nothing but worry free refrigeration for over 15 years. Show details
Terrible expensive purchase – worst fridge i have ever bought shelves in the door cracked the freezer doesn't defrost properly ices up every second day...there is no reason for this the vents are all clear of any objects...should never been made as a side by side the freezer is so small you cant put a dinner plate on the shelves..never by whirlpool again...purchased 10 years… Read more
ago had trouble in the first few months with the shelves cracking, should have bought another brand i see that it is discontinued, I am not surprised...
No faults in 16 years – Ours has performed perfectly for 16 years, still going. Though looking at current fridges, it would have been better with pull-out bins rather than fixed gratings in the freezer. Show reply
Same issue as others... This fridge was a lemon – Worked fine for the first couple of years, then the fridge was not staying cold - not ideal in a Melbourne summer when you have three babies who need their milk chilled between feeds! Anyway I was lucky that I had a 5 year extended warranty. They took the fridge away to 'repair' then returned it. Same issue reoccurred within 18 months - the… Read more
vent/channel between the freezer and fridge (which is how the cold air from the freezer is circulated, keeping the fridge cold) would constantly ice-up. Obviously a design fault. I've struggled on with the thing for almost 15 years and finally threw in the towel last week and ordered a new Mitsubishi fridge. It's costing almost 4 grand, but has a 5 year manufacturer's warranty and is made in Japan. The Whirlpool was made in the USA - which says it all, really...
Must be the luck of the draw – We've had our Whirlpool for 5-6 years now with not one problem. We didn't specifically choose Whirlpool, we were constrained by the space we needed to fit the fridge into. The Whirlpool is a little wider and a little shorter and no other fridges would fit. However, it's never missed a beat and always worked like a charm. The fridge is cool and the… Read more
freezer is cold. We have a family of four and the only thing I'd say is that due to it's size, the fridge part is a little small. We are not big eaters but if we were, then I don't think it would be the best choice. However, for us, it's fine. For a 2 or 3 person family it would probably be fine as well.
One word of advice. The out of warrenty advice from Whirlpool is bogus. The law says that anything you purchase must be fit for purpose. No one buys a fridge expecting it to last for one year, or two. Major appliances are expected to last for probably 5-7 years. If it breaks after two, then call the company up and remind them about the rules under the ACCC and their obligations. If they don't fix it for free, then take it up with ACCC. Make sure you have your records, receipt, when you bought it, when you contacted them to get it fixed, who your spoke with, etc. If they still won't come to the party you can take them to small claims court. Get all your facts right and issue them a summonds, it's a great feeling when they come and fix it for free because their lawyers politely tell them they don't have a leg to stand on and will loose, so just fix it.
3 breakdowns in first 5 years – Fridge broke down within the first 14 months. The air vents between the fridge and freezer froze over and fridge temperature was at 11 c even on coldest setting. The diffuser was replaced by Whirlpool under warranty. Two years later the same problem occurred. Whirlpool said that since it was out of warranty there was nothing they could do and… Read more
referred us to a repair company. The diffuser was replaced again at our expense and we were given 12 month warranty on the part. Now 2 weeks out of the part warranty, our fridge is once again iced up and running at 11 c. Whirlpool won't change the part or pay for repair, instead offered us a discount on the purchase of a new fridge. We asked them why on earth they would think we would want to pay over $1000.00 for another Whirlpool product when the one we have doesn't work? Our issue is still to be resolved....
