Yamaha 2400 is not recommended – I bought 3 set, all of them are out if order due to controller failure. The controller replacement is so expensive that you can buy a new gen instead. Absolutely substandard and rubbish

When they are working well best Genset you can buy in the size range. However, – This is a lengthy review but stick with me. I have bought 3 of these units with mixed results. I operate a remote adventure camp in the NT and the units supply all power. I initially purchased two in 2018 @ $1,800 each with the intention of having a back up, essential when you are 600km from the nearest store. For the first season, 5 months long,… Read more

I operated them from the built in fuel tank for approx 20 hours per day. Each unit was required to run for 5 days. then serviced whilst the other took a turn. First year no problems. I estimate each unit did around 1,000+ hours. Next year, 2019, I connected both to an external fuel supply and ran each continuously for 5 days turn about. (continuous operation is much kinder on motors, never started from cold, as well as the starting components the pull cord in particular.) This also allowed us to leave camp unattended for around 6 days whilst the genset burbled along running 2 domestic fridges and freezer that obviously were never opened. They consume around 11 litres/24hrs burbling along at this low load. After around 500 more hours one unit failed. (Lasted 1,500 hours which was a dissapointment given the hype and cost of these) Neither I, nor any other experienced small engine expert, could fathom the problem. Unit 1 had clocked up around 3,500 hours at the end of that season. Years 2000, 2021 Covid and lockdowns destroyed our business although we did set up camp and the surviving unit probably clocked another 1,000 hours in total whilst a third unit, purchased in 2021 @ $2,100, clocked around 200 hours. Year 2022 arrived, back in business! By the end of the season unit 1 had probably got clocked over 5,000 hours. You will never get that performance from a cheaper genset! It was now using oil at a rate of around 200ml / day and showing obvious signs of wear and tear. However, the only problems encounterd from either unit was faulty spark plugs! I purchased 2 new NGK plugs, as was my habit, both were faulty! As I write, June 2023, The motor in Unit 1 has gone to god, although I will keep the set for spares if needed. I have decided against purchasing another, instead have picked up a 2000 KW cheapie from Sydney Tools that will be assigned absentee running after testing for 6 days. Unit 3 will have to go the distance supplying full power untill Oct 2024. If it does not I will be updating. Summary: Absolutely the best you can buy if you get a good one. However, I suspect the build quality control is not to the standard required to support the price.

a potentially dangerous generator – The 12 V 8 amp battery charger actually puts out 48Volts and can cause the battery to explode. I am glad I checked with my Fluke before trying to charge a battery. The generator itself works fine for AC. I want to sell mine but I cannot put it up for sale as it is dangerous. Show details

Buyer Beware – 2012 purchase lasted 4yrs as far from home at the time no choice but purchase same again. 4yrs later same problem failed inverter. Have written and emailed re experiences however no acknowledgement.

Engine good but shadow of doubt with electrics – Had my EF2400iS for 5 years and done a mere 500 hours of logged time. Use to run like a dream until the inverter module faded. At a quoted $1700 to repair I consider that beyond economical repair. Show details

Yamaha EF2400 hunting/surging – Surging fixed. After having carby cleaned twice to no avail, I noticed the spring which controls the throttle flap below the carby had slid down so as to be on an angle. I simply eased it upward so it was level and now works perfectly. Obviously was causing extra tension on the flap thats all. Show details

Not Happy, boat anchor after 70 hours – Was working fine, until….. started, loaded up and engine cuts out. Carby is clean. Problem is the stepper motor on the carby, quoted $210.00 plus freight for a new one. Very expensive for a $5 part from an electronics shop. Purchased 2nd hand for $1600.00 with 10 run hours. Total run hours now 70, when this problem surfaces. It has taken some… Read more

time to locate the correct stepper motor- the correct part is on its way. I would not purchase another Yamaha 2400is, disappointed with the design and lack of performance.

The best all-round generator available – The Yamaha EF2400is is the best and most functional generator available to RV operators in Australia. It is powerful, quiet and fuel efficient while continuously outputting 2000 watt sine inverter. Show details

Very disappointed!! – This has only done 320 hours work. Started playing up going straight into overload and uprevving. Any service centres were to the point of non existent that could look at it to diagnose problem. Eventually found someone not entwined with Yamaha, turns out the inverter is the problem, would cost as much to repair it as buy a new one, and take 8… Read more

weeks to be able to get one. The irony was I replaced a working cheapie with this because I thought it'd serve me better. I'll be binning this and going Honda. Biggest disappointing purchase in my life thus far. Do not go there. I just went to a shop to get a new one and he said they're so bad he won't sell them anymore and has pallet loads out the back with the same problems.

Great unit, reliable and economical – I have had one of these for a couple of years now, and haven't really had a good chance to use it in anger during an extended outage or prolonged camping trip. It has seen a fair amount of duty in terms of providing lighting and running the odd fridge or freezer, and frankly I couldn't be happier with this unit. I have to admit I picked mine up… Read more

VERY cheap due to a run-out sale, so I'm probably a bit less critical than somebody who paid full whack for one of these.

It's very easy to get started with the recoil pull system (I hate the idea of battery-electric start, just another battery to die when you really need it) and it's pretty quiet even when loaded up. Power generated is very clean; I have seen some cheaper generators which advertise "pure sinewave" output struggle with powering battery chargers, anything motorised and LED lighting without flickering, all of which are only a challenge if your generator's output is modified sinewave or otherwise poor. No such issues here. Also, this generator is pretty frugal on petrol too, whether it's loaded up or not.

Overall, a great generator. Yamaha has outdone itself with this one, and it's easily a match for the more expensive Honda competition.

Rubbish...I've had two...both with the same problem! – I bought my first one new. I wanted quality and thought that's what I was buying because its a Yamaha...right!! It wasn't too long before the Electronic Control Unit decided to quit, and that was the end of that, because they cannot be repaired because its encased in resin!!! Stupidly I bought the same model second hand.....and the same thing… Read more

happened again...rendering both units useless and worthless. I'[m now $$$$$ out of pocket...a bit of a slow learner!! And to think I have a Honda 1kw 30 years old in my shed that has never let me down...why on earth did I by a yamaha !...because I needed more power and thought yamaha was as good as Honda. Wrong! People if you want the best..buy honda ...if you want nothing but trouble..buy yamaha . If you own a ef2400is and its running fine..I promise you its just a matter of time before it ends up like mine...useless

Great until it needs fixing – Have had this unit for about 8 years with very little run time during that period. Due to corrosion I found I needed a new carburettor. Quoted 2 prices $600 and $800 Australian. The unit is only worth $2100 brand new. A Honda carburettor is $60. You do the math. Show details

Off Grid Saviour – Have had this generator for 3 years as my alternative power source when free camping in our 22' caravan. We have been on the road for the past 5 years and have other generators to compare to. Apart from regular servicing, which is really an oil change and air filter clean, i have not had a single problem with this generator. Has been used in the… Read more

recent heatwave to run the air con on our van which it does with no problems. Has run continuously for 10 hrs (apart from stoppages to refuel) with faultless service.

Starts first pull everytime and is reasonably quiet for a larger generator. Comparable to the similar sized honda. Currently has 258 hours of use. I have fitted an hour meter to monitor use for servicing purposes.

I have no hesitation in recommending this generator.

Not happy – Have had for 7 years and use as little as 70 hours a year. Have had to pay to replace ecu at just over 5 years old and 2 years later the unit smoked and now requires further repairs. Always serviced correctly since new. Show details

Excellent generator – I tested my caravan AC (older Ibis) on both Honda and Yamaha 2 generators. No go. Bought a cheapy 4.4kw - what a mistake, it would not power anything over 1600w. Bought the Yamaha iS 2400 and have not looked back. Runs AC, washing machine (300w) and battery charger (240w) at the same time. No Eco switch needed - it's in full time Eco as the… Read more

oversized engine (171cc) has enough grunt to power up under full load. a bit heavy at 32kg, but that's not surprising with the large, easy-working engine. Starts easy, and I like the fuel gauge, so I can refill when it suits me.

Starts first time every time – I bought my generator back in December from Totals tools and I have set it up on a fridge slide in the ute canopy. We are basically full time travellers and I have been using this genny in conjunction with the gas cooking to boil the kettle, cook toast and use the frying pan. In the 3 months we have owned it we have not had any issues with it.… Read more

The main reason we bought it was to run the aircon which we haven't had to yet but we won't have a problem as it runs all the other appliances with ease. A bit heavy but on the fridge slide I don't have to man handle it. Runs super quiet as well.

The perfect Builders tool – I have just finished a 650 sqm 2 storey home to lock up stage using only the Yamaha 2400 as my power supply. Permanent power is now connected and the money saved installing temp power almost paid for the inverter. Simply brilliant and a must have tool for remote building.  Show details

Perfect caravan genny! – Weighed up the options for a long time for home backup power and for our caravan and ended up with 2 prefered options. The Honda EU20i and the Yamy EF2400is. Decided on the Yamy for a few reasons. Extra power, fuel gauge and fuel tap. Our air cond is an old AirCommand Wren....no soft start...genny roars a bit on start up but purrs 5 seconds… Read more

later. AirCommand weren't confident the honda EU20i would handle the hard start and that decided it for me. Yammy is heavier and bulkier but is a powerful unit. As far as the noise goes there is no such thing as a quiet genny. Ive heard both units and they are bearable 10m away. Better 25m away or further but long leads arent a good idea either. You get used to the constant hum.

I would be surprised if there is a caravan aircond the yammy couldn't handle.

Definately recommend the Yammy EF2400is!

Very quiet and plenty of power – I needed to upgrade from my current generator a Honda eu10i as I've changed from camping to caravaning. So I did the compare the pair, on one hand the Honda eu20i & on the other the Yamaha ef2400is. The Honda eu20i would have been the same as the eu10i in quality and a great unit, The Yamaha seem to have the extra punch alowing for the… Read more

reducution in power output in hotter/colder climate or altitude.

I've owned a 4stroke Yamaha outboard engine for 9 years and I'm absolutely impressed with the finish, fuel efficiency & decibels, so I sold my Honda eu10i and decided to buy the Yamaha ef2400is.

It runs my air-conditioning, battery charger and still enough spare to run the microwave. I don't have to worry about turning things off to run other things.

I would say the the Yamaha ef2400is is as quite as the Honda eu10i and doesn't work as hard as the eu20i to supply more power.

I priced it at Sydney tools for $1999 and Anaconda beat the price by 10%

If you buy the Yamaha you won't be disappointed.

Excellent product, easy to start, and ultra reliable – I bought this genny tossing up between the Honda 2kw. Was used to power the aircon in my caravan. But, unlike some competitors, I could run the Microwave AND aircon simultaneously! It starts easily, runs a hell of a long time on a tank of fuel, and would be perfect for caravans where you have the room, especially larger vans It's only… Read more

fault is size and weight. It's big, heavy, and cumbersome. I could slog it around myself, but it's really a 2 person lift, and not something you'd want to toss around a camp sight without need.

Otherwise, if you were looking for a home backup genny, or one fixed into a larger van, it was bulletproof.

Quality Yamaha engineering, would gladly recommend to anyone.

EF2400IS - Great Geni – This generator is great. Quiet and efficient and starts real easerly. We bought this unit after researcing and comparing against the 20i Honda. i found that overall the Yamaha came out on top. If there was one thing i think the Honda had on this unit, it would be the ease of moving it. Very low noise. Ease of operation. Hard to move one out. Show reply
