Good coffee but problem with milk burning onto frother and Nespresso taking no responsibility – I am happy with the coffee made by my machine however there is a serious manufacturing fault with the milk frother on the Citz & Milk model. Each time we make a coffee I clean the frother and milk continually burns onto the bottom. I have sent it into Nespresso for repair under warranty and they take no responsibility for this problem and state that this is not covered under warranty. Not happy with this considering my machine is only 4 months old and the frother is cleaned after every single coffee. A quick google search confirms that this is a common problem with Nespresso machines. Will be buying a different machine next time and steering clear of Nespresso in future. Consistent tasting coffee Bad warranty service, Nespresso takes no responsibility for faulty machine.

Hi Keah, I'm not sure if you are aware but there has been a New Australian Consumer Law introduced that puts the responsibility of replacing/refunding faulty products onto the retailer/wholesaler rather than the manufacturer as it was in the past. This means that the retailer has to take the responsibility that when they sell you the product it will work correctly, and if it doesn't they have to (under law) replace it or refund you the money you paid for it - rather than fobbing you off and sending you back to deal with the manufacturer like they used to. I would suggest you take it back and demand a refund. If you Google New Australian Consumer Law there is a lot of information about it. I hope that helps!

Hi Keah, Thanks so much for your comment. We are also having problems with the frother, but a bit worse than yours. In fact, the attachment in the frother does not even spin, causing the milk to burn and the machine to stop altogether. Like you, I take good care of it, diligently washing it and cleaning it after each use. I initially had this problem about 1.5years after buying it, but they replaced the frother twice! The first replacement did not even work, but the second one did. Then, within 9 months after that, the second replacement failed again. Because it is now over the 2 year warranty period, although the second replacement frother is only 9 months old, Nespresso has washed their hands off this problem, and asking me to contact Delonghi directly. Delonghi gave me a contact name of the person who can repair it (at my cost!).

I'm sure many people have bought the machine, and many would have the same problem with the frother as we have. So, why is Nespresso still selling this "dud" machine. The word should be out there to caution new buyers but most importantly, Nespresso should stand by the machine that they promote and sell, not just fobbing off customers who are genuinely having issues with the frother.

We're wondering if you have pursued this matter any further.

Hi Keah I have exactly the same problem and mine is only a couple of months old. Mine too burns on the frother, the light on the frother also starts flashing and stops before the milk has been frothed.

Thank you for reporting this. Have you had any further developments with Delonghi or Nespresso?

I have exactly the same problem... Dodgy machines they are. Aldi sells a $90 machine which appears to be of better quality and has a longer warranty!

1 month old and the same issue. The flashing red light indicates overheating, so its a known design fault. The overheating is obviously contributing to the burning. How are they even getting away with this?

Wow - and I thought it was only just me - I too take very good care of my machine but I am so tired of having to soak the frother to clean the burnt milk from it.

I too have this problem with my frother and 2 co-workers have complained of the same problem. I have been careful about cleaning with only cold water as advised by the sales person but it burns with every use. When I asked I was told they had never heard of any problem. and

I also have this problem. If I do end up buying another Nespresso machine it won't be the Citiz model.

Same problem for me, I just took it on the chin but now i am bothered by it because someone from Nespresso just called me to check how my experience was and when I mentioned the issue I was just brushed aside and comments were made like "we are here to help you and you can call us at any time" I said but are you able to help with the frother and they said. Thank you sir have a nice day and hung up? What was the point of the call in the first place?

Work around for those who have eventually scrubbed off the non-stick surface... First clean the burnt milk off thoroughly, then leave the milk frother with 5 - 10mm of water in the bottom until you use it next time. I've not had to do anything other than rinsing the milk out (no scrubbing at all), and leaving a bit of water in the bottom.

You should take note of the instructions though, repeated use requires the unit to cool down, suggest using chilled water.

Aeroccino Troubleshooting: Flashing red light

If the red light on your Aeroccino is flashing continually and the heating cycle stops prematurely, it means that your Aeroccino has detected that it is heating up too quickly. Please find below some common causes and resolutions for this:

- Using the Aeroccino again immediately after first use: The Aeroccino has a safety thermostat that stops the spinning and heating of milk if the temperature is too high. This is to prevent it from burning out. It must be rinsed with cold water, cleaned and allowed to cool before using again.

- Traces of milk left in the Aeroccino: The Aeroccino must be thoroughly cleaned after each use. If traces of milk are left in it, the temperature rises very fast and the Aeroccino stops spinning and heating much earlier. We suggest that the inside of your Aeroccino should be thoroughly cleaned with cool water and a Teflon-approved or non stick scourer after every use. It is advised to also rinse the whisk used to maintain the quality of your unit.

If you require any further support for your Aeroccino (including warranty claims), please contact the Nespresso Club directly via our toll free number 1800 623 033 or email from our website. A trained Coffee Specialist will be happy to assist you.

In case it's not obvious, tip out the 5 - 10mm of water before adding milk. :) Rinse / wipe / dry if desired.

had the same problem on the very first use and it just got worse and worse, got no help was told i didnt rinse it properly, very very angry, they bost this over the top customer sirvice but are totaly useless if you have an actual real issue.

When i contacted nespresso they cheerfully told me that it was the milk I was using that was the problem. I use skim milk from the supermarket. Surely the manufacturer would have tested a variety of milks when designing theirm machine?

hopeless..I have already taken my milk frother back once and I will betaking it back again. I am always careful and rinse it out after each use, PLUS always leave some water in there to soak it too but it always gets burned.

When I mention it to Harvey Norman they are like...On really? No we never have issues reported to us like your case.

I am glad that I found this forum and there are many of you that are having the same problem. This will only fuel me when I take it back for the second time.

Hi guys i have the same problem and my hubby wanted me to get rid of the aerocinno and buy another. I have just rang Nespresso to complain about the frothers build up of burnt milk and the guy was really helpful.

He advised the whole rinsing with cold water thing but also suggested 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda on the area and fill the frother up half way with water and leave to soak for 3 hours. I am trying this and hope it will lift. If not he has give me reply paid address in melbourne where they clean it for free being a nespresso member.

Definetly give them a call and ask for help. Lets hope my problem gets fixed :)

I'm going to try this - my frother is burned and I can't get rid of it despite scrubbing and soaking. I'm in Melbourne too so I might ask about the reply paid address thing!

I have been having issues with my frothier since day 1. I have complained to Nespresso and got the excuses of it must be the milk you are using and make sure you clean it after use. Every time I use it the red light flashes and it won't heat. Rang again but apparently my warranty expired 9 days ago. They offered to sell me a new machine for half price. Don't want to pay anything if it is going to stop frothing again. Won't buy Delonghi again!

Ok so how valuable can a web search be! Just got off the phone to Nespresso. After describing exactly the same problem as the rest of you, it was implied by the consultant that I hadn't been clearning it properly. It makes 2 cups of coffee on each day of the weekend, and then either left to soak (due to the mulk scum collected next to the spindle, or rinsed then wiped with a sponge (ineffective against the burnt on scum).. Wll send it of for assessment though and report back what happens here.

Thrilled to find all of you with the same problem. Onto my second frother and uptight about the cleaning as mine yesterday started to burn again and the spinner not working, here we go again. Will keep you posted as to again what happens. Thanks

Tried the baking soda/powder solution in Siobhan79's post on 5 Feb 2013. It worked. Left the baking powder & water in the aerocinno for longer than the 3 hours then used a non-scratch scourer. Thanks Siobhan. As for the spinner not working, it may be a little out of shape. Easy to fix it - just gently push back into shape.

We bought our nespresso about 18 months ago, the first aeroccino lasted approx 8-9 months before the burning issue became so bad we contacted nespresso who promptly sent out a replacement. The replacement lasted for 7 months and never had burning issues, but then suddenly stopped heating the milk at all, we had been advised with this one to clean it with green scourer between every use. Third replacement arrived 2 weeks ago and immediately burned, were advised to clean it with a blue scourer not green as previously advised, yet it still burned. 1 week later the 4th one arrived and once again burned after 2 uses, so bad that the scourer could not completely remove it and then immediately burned again. The 5th aerrocinno arrived today, haven't tried it yet but have lost all confidence in this product. 3 replacements in 2 weeks is a joke, although the customer service has been excellent with replacements sent promptly.

I have just found this site after calling Nespresso to have my aeroccino replaced. I am anal about cleaning it but in the last 2 weeks the burning has been worse and I can no longer remove the burn. Will try siobhan79 tip before I send it back. Made coffee this morning and now in need of another one and it wont work. Arghh. Given what others are saying here mine has done well with 13 months use, using it everyday to make approx. 6 coffees a morning. I am now dreading a replacement but will keep on top of it before my warranty runs out.

Hi all I had the same problem. Nespresso refused to help saying I hadn't cleaned the aeroccino correctly. Then it stopped heating the milk altogether. Was told to reset the temperature gauge by filling with cold water and holding button in to reset the temperature. It worked for a while but continued to burn badly and couldn't be removed. I bought a cheap milk frother from a supermarket, no burning, easily cleaned and works well. Come one Nespresson fix your aeroccino machines. The coffee machine works a treat.

Gavin, I would ring back - you will speak to someone else who might be more sympathetic. I got my brand new machine yesterday and it works a treat. All machines are covered by 2 year warranty after that they will repair or replace and you get 6 months warranty. I will be checking mine again thoroughly before the 2 years is up - given that my first one seems to have lasted longer than most of the other posts her. Good luck

Hi all you will note I wrote on this review back in 2011. I bought a cheap frother from Aldi for $20 and it is a little gem. I still use both frothers when I have guests so I can make the coffees quicker I too leave water in the frother between uses. Nespresso by far is the best coffee and the machine is still working fine so I have learnt to live with the disappointment.

lizeydo

Mine started with exactly the same problem after 9 months. I've been so careful with cleaning and am really disappointed that I'm now heating my coffee in the microwave because the milk is cold after the frother stopping halfway through.

Marsh.

Cleaning my Nespresso frother has been a problem since the first weeks of use. Have tried all the recommended procedures leaving cold water in the frother , adding baking soda etc. But every time i use the frother there is a burned area between the spindle of the agitator and the outer wall of the milk frother that will not clean . Recently the nonstick surface in this area has broken down.

This seems to be a design problem for the manufacturers since so many people have experienced it. It cannot just be down to an occasional defective unit.

Damaged Teflon non stick surfaces are supposed to be carcinogenic. So I will be getting another brand of frother. Will try the Aldi machine. Thank you all for the helpful posts.

I have the same problem with mine at home which I have only had for a few months. We have one at work and that too has the same problem despite very careful cleaning. I know of no one that does not have this problem. Very disappointed with this product. It is a shame as the coffee is great!

Hi everyone, I went to Harvey Norman the other day and a guy in there told me about the issue everyone is having. Apparently he had a MAP frother and has no issues with that at all. So this is what I will be purchasing. It would be worth looking into :)

Our first frother lasted just under two years, it always burnt the milk before it totally died. Luckily within the warranty and Nespresso replaced it. Second frothed is just over 12 months old burns worse than the first one and the is starting to stop spinning. It's obviously about to die. Like others in here, we fastidiously clean ours per the manufacturers instructions, it can only be a flawed design that causes all same problem. I don't want to change brands because I like the Nespresso coffee the most but it is so disappointing that Nestle won't take this issue responsibly and correct this problem, especially given the massive premium we all pay for their brand.

As for the Aldi machine, we have one at work, it doesn't make a froth as good at the Nespresso but the milk is hot and it NEVER sticks!

Hi all we have the same problem at home and at work, we have also tried soaking and baking soda, viniger etc to no avail could not be more disappointed in nespresso for their product and their very poor customer service in this regard I advise everyone I speak to about this and advise them to look on line at forums like this before purchase I spread the word as much as I can as I am so disgruntled I am sick of being told that I don't clean it properly :-(

My wife bought one yesterday. First use today - it burned the milk and then ceased to function at all! Ring the helpline - took them 20 minutes of farting around to get to the conclusion that it had died and we should return it to the retailer. Awesome……..
