Only buy if you've got a sense of humour, – I purchased a Navman EZY15 as I wanted an inexpensive, small, light GPS unit for interstate trips to Western Australia and Victoria. It was also on sale for just $99.

I've just returned from two weeks in W.A. and the truth is the unit got me from point A to B in all situations and in Perth itself it was a godsend. However, what I wished someone had told me was that it has a world of limitations.

Just to give you a picture of some issues I had:

* When I tried to find my street address for my house which was built in 1983 it wasn't in its street address database (not a good start). This was more of a pain with hotels, two of which I searched for by address only to find I couldn't actually enter their street address numbers, although I could still get the GPS to get me to the street at least and from there it was obviously easy enough to find the hotels.

* It doesn't have tourist features in it like "wave rock", "green pool" or "glouchestire tree" ... basically all the tourist places I wanted to go to weren't in the unit which kind of defeated the point of having it for me.

* I found that if you come out of roundabouts and there is a turnoff within 50 metres or so, it doesn't detect or direct you into these turnoffs (I suspect it assumes they're part of the roundabout). On two occasions this had be driving off down the wrong highway.

* It's speed alerts are woefully inaccurate and cannot be trusted. On many occasions I'd drive past speed signs and the GPS allowed me to carry on at the wrong speeds for several kilometres. In the end I just couldn't trust it and this was one of the main features for me.

* The road layers outside the cities in W.A. had lots of innaccuracies. This was mostly just amusing (it had me driving off through paddocks, and often thought I had turned off onto side roads that I was driving past so would try and direct me back onto the main road. In one case the unit had the road and rail network back to front, so it thought I was driving along the railway which it didn't like), however I did find on several occasions that the route it chose was obviously a much longer route than the optimal route (which I verified by paper maps) which sort of defeated the purpose (and yes I did try setting it to optimise in different ways).

* Hotel and other locations were often out by a long way. It told me I had arrived at my parents house when it was still 200 metres down the road, and when I went to the Youth Hostel at Margaret River (which was in its database) it insisted that it was on the other side of the road.

* A minor dislike is also that the On/Off slide switch is also the "reset" switch, so if you slide it the wrong way or too far you reset the unit and have to wait for a minute or so for it to boot up again. Doesn't sound like a big hassle, but it annoyed me for the first few days.

Overall this unit got me from A to B, was easy to read, and a great aid in my travels. I just wished it had more accurate speed, tourist and location information in it ... after all isn't that why we buy these things? inexpensive, starts quickly, easy to use, reasonable touch screen speed limit information can't be trusted, limited tourist site POIs, rural road information and address information inaccurate.

So, is it just my unit that is really slow? - the touch screen on mine is frustrating, you have to push hard and wait each time you touch it? - think I'll take it back and change it for another, could be faulty unit?

I find mine slow, especially after start up, but it's not an iPad ... I just press a button wait a second, press the next one. I've never had to press 'hard' though.

Have had mine since november 2011 - works well on saved routes in March the screen decided to move all the keys one place to the right, then the search features went altogether, all it did was to lock the screen - reboot to clear, supplementary travel menu on right not available, therefore no speed check.

Unit was requested by Navman to be sent back for a "hardware problem"

arrived back after 15 days worked ok for seven weeks, then in the middle of Brisbane at nine pm it decided to go back to the previous problems - no search features, locking screens etc etc - much bad language ensued as I was totally lost

contacted Navman in daylight and was advised to reinstall from supplied disc - carried out with minor improvement, but still no accurate keypad of search function

contacted Navman and was informed that I was to send the unit back, they would look at it and if faulty then they would replace the unit.

I indicated that I did not really want another piece of garbage and I was prepared to upgrade, at my cost, for another higher spec unit - sorry not allowed can only have the same unit - time frame , about 15-20 days

conclusion :-

piece of junk, would not recommend it to my mother in law

I have one of these colour went funny after just 2 days now wont turn on... will be bringing back to the shop and swapping in for a uniden unit, as the speed on them can actually be trusted and hopefully wont do the same thing. other than that i did like the unit, very easy to use.

As the company does not know how to send a message on how to fix any problem my advice is don't buy a navman
