Canon XM2

Have bought another XM2 – Have just bought a second XM2 to make weekly filming of meetings look more professional . Was tempted to go hi definition but after seeing the quality of lower price (under $4000) so called Hi definition cameras could see it was better to stay with what I had . People seeing the results think the lines per inch is higher than it is . What it lacks in this area it makes up with the quality of the lens and sensor . Using it in a hall with pour lighting the results are still good . If you need to make lighting adjustments it is easy . The fact that this camera was on the market so long says it all . Just hope canon do not stuff it up making "improvements" Quality results , eas of use , good lens and sensor . Image in viewfinder looks squashed if filming in widescreen .

Excellent – Its OK but there are definitely better cameras for that price on the market. I used to be a fan of Canon cams, but since comparing it with other brands price to performance even low cost JVC cams have surpassed Canons long reputation. It is a broadcast style camera design with a large aperture and 3CCD's that will guarantee top colour quality of footage. The silver body and fixed microphone are features of a general consumer level camera, the thick view finder which doesnt seem to be in a 16:9 aspect ration either is consistent with canons bulky plastic toy like designs. The 1.6Megapix still camera is far from impressive when a basic mobile phone will now do over 5Meg pictures, hopefully the large lens will compensate for some quality.
