It's been a while since I've had to buy a new one and this is devastatingly disappointing. I've tried opening 2 cans so far and it's been a struggle. So different from my last one I'm so disappointed and can't recommend it at all. Show details
Follow-up · It struggled with general tins like tomatoes and tuna. The opener was difficult to attach and didn't open the can completely 8
Absolute rubbish. Just slips on the edge of the can. Looks and feels cheap, not like the original model. Not the same quality as the old can opener from Magican. extremely disappointed. Show details

Absolutely hopeless utensil, do not buy this. I ended up taking it back the next day to Woolworths for a refund. Then I realised there are so many negative reviews of this product. It does not cut and it takes about 1000 turns before it even advances around a can. This is a terrible product. Show details

MagiCan't – Don't bother wasting your money. Purchased a cheap can opener last year for the caravan but it wouldn't do the job. Went to Woolworths and paid the ridiculous price for MagiCan, thinking that price = guaranteed to work. Fast forward to tonight and in the caravan. Planned a meal that requires a tin of Pink Salmon and there is nothing magic… Read more
about the MagiCan when it can't even open the tin; it is no better than a $2 option. This was meant to be the first time using too. It can't even break into the tin. When it does break the tin, it doesnt break properly, you turn the knob and nothing happens.

Opened can, but slipped. Then I saw that it's left little metal filings in the prunes where it slipped...dangerous, you can't eat the food. Show details

Absolutely does not open any can. Judging by the hundreds of highly negative reviews that's everyone else's experience also. Purchased at Woolworths & going straight back. How dare they sell this absolutely useless product knowingly. They have responded to many of the negative reviews but clearly don't give a toss as the negative reviews go back… Read more
ages & yet, the product is still on the shelves. Just shameful. Avoid this company and the rubbish they sell.

Unsure of exact model number - The very first MagiCan I purchased many years ago was absolutely and phenomenally brilliant !!!!!! I raved about this can opener then with time and usage, it stopped working seamlessly. Was really unpredictable and mostly wouldn’t pierce the can in areas. Replaced with my 2nd MagiCan last year, no comparison at… Read more
all in quality to what the item used to be from my first purchase of this item. The effortless hand energy that ‘was’ required with my very first purchase of this can opener was not present with the repurchase - the reliability of such ease in piercing with the can beautifully and opening it effortlessly was lost about 3mths into it being new with the 2nd purchase of this can opener. It missed sections of the can lid that wasn’t opened, so had to go back in areas to go over it….., even several times due to the teeth not piercing the tin. This was used on several tins/different brands with all the same outcome.
The can opener had never been soaked in water to prevent the teeth malfunctioning. It simply was wiped and cleaned throughly with a damp cloth/ air dried. I made myself believe I had simply purchased a lemon / an off batch from the production line.
3rd time purchase of the MagiCan a few months ago, again- can now simply truthfully state - waste of money for what it used to represent. All of the above issues have arisen again -of not opening cans first time around -arm/ hand strength needed to make sure the mechanism teeth are piercing the can - the last 2 MagiCans I’ve owned, NO elderly person would have any chance of using it successfully. Beetroot tin is to show the real struggle with the Haggard edges- i was losing my cool, to say the least today. Hense why the review.
The product has definitely declined with the ‘magic’ that it used to represent in the opening of cans with such ease. Highly DO NOT recommend.

Our old Magican was very reliable, so if course when it carked, we didn't hesitate when choosing another Magican. The feel is cheap and light. Main thing is it really fails to perform its main task well. Very disappointing seeing as its not cheap. It does open the can but normally needs help from a second person to rotate the can because it doesn't seem to grip on or cut cleanly so one ends up tearing the lid free. Show details

Worked once out of the box before it just spun endlessly on the very next and subsequent Unfortunately most cans are ring pull these days so, by the time you discover that this opener is cheap, plastic landfill, you no longer have the box or receipt to return it. Avoid avoid avoid. Show details

I have been using this brand for about 15 years. The version from the 2010’s were the best openers I had ever used. This version is rubbish. The cog wheel skids on the can and feels like cheap trash. Seems like every other company… take the ‘make it cheaper route’ and now it is trash which is a real shame cos as I said, they were the best I had ever used. Gutted!!!

Absolute rubbish – Until reading these reviews, I thought it was me that was at fault with this product . Always a battle to fully open the lid. Tonight was the final straw. Attempted to open a tin of beetroot. Absolute disaster. Best I got was to half open the tin . Beetroot juice all over the floor . Had to throw away the can of beetroot . Can opener followed closely behind Show details

Totally hopeless and unusable – I made the mistake of buying a Culinare MagiCan when my old one had reached its end of use. What a disappointment. I feel totally ripped off as it just will not open a can. I bought based on previous experience with the brand, but this latest version is totally hopeless and just does not work. Do not buy this product.

MAGICAN is now JUNK! Cheap materials and rubbish design! – Culinare has ruined Magican by skimping on quality that it once was! Thin weak light plastic, less metal and different design! ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS???? This is my 3rd and last buy, the first 2 were built for purpose and so great! This new product is JUNK! J U N K! How embarrassing for your company. See photos, old model is on the left. You owe me a refund for this rubbish! Show details

There' NOTHING 'Magic' abou this product – Purchase at Coles Supermarket, Ramsgate, NSW. An hour later I'm still struggling to open a can! Difficult to attach to the can and when I do - it mangles the can lid. You start again and again - trying to avoid the sharp mangles edges - FRUSTRATING!!! I wish I kept my Coles receipt. Quality and durability gone – I bought an Auto Magic can opener 20 years ago. Unfortunately, the opening mechanism broke, so I decided to buy an exactly similar one 2 months ago. I was deeply disappointed with the new opener. It didn't work after the third time of using it. I returned it and bought a much better brand, KitchenAid, for the same price. It is much stronger. wish I had read the reviews before buying the Auto Magic can. My advice is not to buy it; the quality is nonexistent. Save your money. There is no lower rating than 1. Please don't send me your standard reply to contact customer service by email. I don't want to hear from you again.
Culinare MagiCan - the worst tin can opener? – I purchased a Culinare MagiCan from Woolworths recently because I had another very similar looking can opener which I purchased over 20 years ago. case, it felt flimsier than the old one (which I believe it is also a MagiCan, although it is not written on it). But the real disapointment was when I tried to open a tin can and it completely failed. I could not open a tin can with this device if my life depended on it! They claim to be the world best selling can opener, but I suppose they changed the design. I cannot imagine what kind of managment this company has when they replace a good quality, sturdy device with such a piece of junk. I just found the eReceipt and I will return it to Woolworths.

MagiCan are no longer the great product that made them famous – I bought a new MagiCan last week from a respectable kitchen shop and it’s quality is so bad it is unusable ,I have my original MagiCan from the 1980s which I had to get out to actually open the can with it still works perfectly but it doesn’t seem to have the Culinare maker on it was the original company bought by Culinare and they sent a opener… Read more
to an Asian company to make a bad copy with out the strength or cutting ability I will go back to my kitchen shop to inform the lovely owner that she has be duped into selling an inferior copy of the original great invention why can’t people leave things that work alone and stop trying to save money buy using cheap imports . It will just cheapen the good name that MagiCan has in the market place. This product I purchased last week is crap and only good for the rubbish bin.

From hero to zero. Dreadful – It seems like so many here that I was a huge fan of Magican. However, after 15 years of service it wore out. This new Culinare Magican was a total flop. It struggled to grip the lid, it was hard to turn, and it didn’t cut the can consistently. Worse than useless – Not only is this the worst can opener I've ever encountered it's actually potentially dangerous. Because it cuts the side of the can where the paper labels are stuck on rather than the top, it can push a small amount of paper into the food in the can. It is truly terrible and should be removed by the authorities as it is a hazrd to human health. Show details
