Making Life simple – Yay! Just installed a 6ADP8540IX. It is now an under bench jobbie...sooo excited. It replaces an ADP5540 (both whirlpools) we think it was a 1998ish model, we inherited the first one from a house purchased used for a number of years, then new tenants had their own dishwasher. So we ripped it out threw it in the back of a trailer and took off on… Read more

1400km journey back home looking for the mythic Lake Nugga Nugga on the way...not roads for conventional vehicles. The dishwasher went on for three more years. I've worked with many dishwasher since my parents bought one when my sister left home for uni...I guess my dishwashing skills inspired the purchase. So I've worked with many models and brands so in the course of time I've discovered 1. Most people do not know how to stack a dishwasher for best washing. 2. Most people don't understand the mechanics of the washing action or the water coverage. 3. You get what you pay for. So the two dishwashers are very similar so when our intrepid 5540 finally gasped it's last gasp...after discovering many secrets to improve water flow to the arms, removing a utensil basket to improve water contact to ensure best water coverage for washing and detergent mixing and that the best wash/drying for most loads is the maximum load. After hand washing for a few months and being challenged by that, imagine our surprise to find a similar looking dishwasher at the dump shop so we chucked it in the back of the trailer and immediately went to work on it...thinking to cannibalise the old one...would of happened but the same problem...pump dead. Never fear downloaded parts schematic ordered new pump and the arm for the second and top water sprayers...very necessary I would say this is designed to fail it will leak over time...so just get a new one if you are having pressure issues to the upper arms, not that expensive and just snaps in. Why did we go to so much trouble? Dishwasher cost new parts less that $300...our research showed a new basic model for any make for descent operation and consumption $600-$800. So at the moment it is under the bench, (the model originally freestanding) we ripped a cupboard out to achieve the dream...so cool. I love the guy who is turning his old one into a fish smoker great idea for the old one! At the moment I'm leaning on the 'new' one warming my butt...another great use for dishwashers. Not sure what the future holds but it is looking a lot more shiny and sparkling.

Whirlpool Dishwasher ADP8966 – For a quality item 2 months wait on an inlet hose , pump to sump hose fails require new pump $400 later . This hose is 40mm long this cannot be purchased as a part the whole needs to be sold with the pump It is a con , and will never buy a whirlpool product again Michael REIKEN 0438305371 Time to get parts , poor quality of parts

Good – I'm quite surprised by all the negative reviews on this dishwasher, I've had mine over 5 years and it's fine. I only ever use the shortest cycle which is great for all kinds of pots in all kinds of states, I have never even bothered trying the longer ones. I'm loathe to post this in case I put a jinx on my machine but am doing so because while… Read more

researching for a dishwasher for a second property it's occured to me that people are mainly motivated post comments when they're unhappy, afterall an appliance it's supposed to work so why would you shout about it? If this model was still available I'd but it again. It's quiet and works well the cutlery basket is too far away from the sprayers and sometimes the cutlery isn't exactly sparkling - but this is a minor inconvenience.

Terrible – I inherited this dishwasher when I moved in. In the past I have had a dishlex without any issues. That dishwasher was replaced with a basic cheap dishwasher that worked reasonably well however this Whirlpool dishwasher is extremely disappointing. I don't feel the dishes are clean & I have reverted to washing the dishes by hand. I most definately… Read more

will not purchase a Whirlpool product in the future. Fairly quiet Doesn't clean the dishes despite rinsing them first & ensuring the filters are clean. Stainless steel finish is discoloured & most of the time the soap dispenser doesn't empty completely.

Terrible – This is a very basic dishwasher that does not clean and is very poorly designed, no research was put into this product whatsoever. Does not clean dishes totally even after rincing before placing in machine. Draw does not open properly Dinner plates do not fit Wine glasses do not fit

Terrible – Having read all the other reviews I must admit I have had all of the problems mentioned. I purchased on recommendation of Choice! Nothing really

Good – We are renting and have this dish washer in the house and we have had very little problem with it so far. It usually washes very well although we often have to put it on pot scrub to ensure this. It also has not failed mechanically in any way and does not need too much powder. I have found it easy to clean the filter as well. We are pretty happy… Read more

with it and can't complain as it doesn't seem any worse than other dishwashers I have used. Has a number of different cycles and shows exactly what temperature they are, is easy to load, generally washes dishes well. Can't guarantee a good wash every time.

Terrible – Basically the same negative comments as everyone else. Top spray tube pops out - wastes electricity, water and dishwasher powder as wash has to be re-done and re-done and re-done. Although if you place an O ring around the tube and jam it in the tube stays in. Here is the next piece of technical advice ;-) when the pump jams (all the time)… Read more

lift the front of the unit and let it bump back on the ground. This dislodges the pump and gets it going again.

Compared to the LG unit i had previously, this is junk.

To quote another knowledgeable punter

"Rubbish product - would not consider another Whirlpool appliance." Stainless steel look. Everything else.

Terrible – Noisy wash cycle, in-efficient water and energy use, time-waster due to re-wash necessary most cycles as bottom tube pops, can't put on wash cycle and go to bed as it is almost inevitable that noise from popped top spray tube vibrating and certainty that the wash cycle will have to be done again in the morning or crockery hand-washed will keep me… Read more

awake. Rubbish product - would not consider another Whirlpool appliance. Stainless steel and functional controls. Inherited unit in house purchase - installed by previous owner about three years ago. While searching for replacement recirculation pump, came across these reviews. Have exactly same problems - top spray tube pops out - wastes electricity and water as wash has to be re-done. When serviceman came to assess breakdown told me pump would be expensive (quoted $277 pump only), and I may be better off buying new dishwasher. Won't ever buy another Whirlpool appliance. Best feed back I can give to Whirlpool is I will tell as many of my friends as I can about the rubbish Whirlpool makes.

Terrible – obviously common complaint - water pump died 2 months out of warranty, and they refused to fix it. Top spray tube pops out frequently. stainless front fell off. Not worth the extra money at all! Stainless steel / produuct reputation terrible reliability

Terrible – Very disappointed that the design of a $1000 machine permits such a failure. "Guess whose mum won't have a Whirlpool!" Was happy with cleaning results Spray/Water pump motor died 6 months out of warranty due to split in hose spraying water into it. $360 to fix. May as well buy a new one. Was also noisy and cycles took a long time.

Excellent – After reading other reviews, maybe I got lucky. After about 4 years of faultless service, it started washing the bottom half only. I used one of those cleaning bottles in it and viola! All good again. All I could hear from it was a slight hum while it was running. On one or two occasions it groaned a bit, but that settled within seconds. I have… Read more

now moved interstate and live in a rental place while my house is being built. The rental place has a Westinghouse that I don't like or use because it doesn't clean properly. I would have bought another Whirlpool for my new house but their range is now abysmal and rumours of their customer service scare me. I have bought a Miele to replace it. Very quiet. excellent cleaning results. Reliable Stainless door stained by caustic at some stage. Seems to be permanent.

OK – I like it because it is my first ever dishwasher Im happy because i don't have to do the dishers anymore .I get frustrated sometimes because it hard to put in bowls and big pots ive taken out one of the utenicl holders to give me more space .We also had to get an extention for the hose because it wouldn't reach the out let that was a bit anouing. it was stainless steel and in our price range. can fit a good amount in a bit nosie

OK – Fine and very reliable for basic dinner settings but not flexible enough for anything other than dinner settings, so a bit limited. Always washes everything except an occassional dirty piece of cutlery when baskets are pretty full. Usually pretty effective, reliable, no mechanical issues so far Poor internal layout - limited flexibility for placement of dishes
