VAF DC Series

VAF DC-X Original Kit – I bought the VAF DC-X 20 years ago as a kit (time goes FAST). For a few years after a move they sat in my garage and where even damaged (isolated rips in the rubber surrounds in the drivers ). I bought a set a Jamo's and also had a good quality computer audio system setup and used those in the years the VAFs where in storage. I thought… Read more
they sounded good, until I recently pulled the VAF's out and wired them up, bi amped to my Denon. You don't realise what you are missing with audio .. until you do. I've gone from cardboard under water to crystal mid - highs and deep round bass, I can hear the tone of the bass amp used in the recordings. I am planning to get the speakers refurbished but even as they are after 20 years I am very happy. There is so much cheap crap around and you tend to just get use to it. In some ways we are going backwards accepting the quality of cheap crappy stuff.
Incredible - they really do outperform anything close to the price – I have tortured myself for 3 years auditioning speakers, to find something that sounds amazing, and doesn't cost the earth. I cant tell you how many speakers I have listened to. I finally bit the bullet and dolled out the cash on the new DCX-35s. I picked them up Tuesday. I know where people are standing, I can hear them breathing, and I can hear… Read more
fingers move on guitar strings like they are in front of me. The better recorded the song, the more amazing they are. Fairly forgiving on placement, but don't stick them in a corner.
Fantastic - outperforms anything within two or three times the price – The DC-X provide a stunning reproduction of source audio - particularly high-quality 24-bit through a decent amplifier. Available with a centre amplifier (DC-6cc) and smaller brothers (DC-7) to make the most of music recorded using DVD or Blu-ray. Far more expensive speakers are available, but I challenge anyone to be able to hear the difference.… Read more
Able to handle just about all music from the high notes right through to church organ rumbling lows Not exactly small if hiding speakers from view is your thing.
Fantastic – When I brought the Dc-X35 Mk2 home from Vaf, I plugged them into my amp and was instantly blown away by them, I spend the next few days going through my music collection seeing which recordings where done properly in the studio. These speakers are big, hence they make a wall of sound that immerses you in the music, much better than listening… Read more
to headphones. They go very loud, but you don't need to drive them hard to get a good sound, even at low listening levels they sound very dynamic. The bass you get from these is very controlled and not in your face, but it goes very deep. Especially for Home theater listening, I could literally feel the bass blow my hair back, my old active sub is not needed anymore. The stereo effect created by these is actually spoiled by adding a center speaker. If I have to be picky, detail drops off sharply if you move out of in front of them, but in an average size room this is not an issue since they are so large. This is my first dip into high end audio hardware, and it has been a good investment, highly recommended. Clean controlled bass with a big and detailed sound, excellent stereo imaging Need to be sitting in front for best sound.
Excellent – Can't say enough great things about the DCX. Upgraded to the Generation IV a few years ago. Tried out many other brands - both overseas & local - but none can touch these speakers for even double the price. Recently upgraded to the MARK II, and it's well worth it... It's a noticeable jump up in every department. Whatever you listen to, the… Read more
DCX's are just all-round unbeatable. I guess many factors help make them so special.... Very accurate, very neutral. Smooth, audiophile-level sound. Fantastic fidelity all the way down. Clean, clear, with zero distortion. A BIG, well-defined soundstage. Incredible bass response that trounces many subwoofers. Rather than being exaggerated like so many other speakers, the bass is tight, fast and blends perfectly with the mids and highs. Having the dual tweeters and dual woofers arranged at ear-height also helps keep the sound so tight and clean. These speakers are really power-efficient & sensitive, and don't scream out for expensive power amps like other speakers of their class (although it always helps!). They also don't need a big room to sound good - my latest smaller room is just fine. They might be large, but not unnecessarily large... A speaker just needs to be a certain size to sound this good! At any rate, you get used to them in no time. I think VAF can build them with your own choice of wood veneer. (I got the black stocking cover, which I think is perfect.) I also got the larger is DC-Xcc centre speaker, which is just as incredible, and a perfect match... As huge an improvement over the DC6 as the the DCX is over the DC7. Even if you're buying sight-unseen, it's very easy to recommend these speakers. They just perform so much better than anything else in their price-class, and in some respects - several times the price! Everything! See review below... Matching surround speakers aren't bipole or dipole.
Price has gone up (but they're still worth every cent.)
Excellent – I've had the DC-X speakers for 8 or 9 years now and a few years ago I brought the DC6 center speaker and the DC7 speakers to use as rear speakers. The DC-x speakers are the best I've ever heard. I used to have a JBL sub woofer but I sold the JBL sub woofer on ebay as it couldn't keep up with the VAF DC-X. Now without the JBL sub woofer I have lots… Read more
more bass just using the VAF DC-X. I recommend VAF speakers if you like big clear bass and just an all round perfect sound. The sound, The huge Bass, They are very big (making them hard to steal), mine are 8 or 9 years old now and still sound as good as the day I brought them
DCX Gen 4 – I never thought I would ever place a review on a website but stumbled accross this site when deciding whether or not to buy VAF DCX speakers. Customer reviews on the web convinced me to give VAF a go when I was looking at Paradigm, DB and other brands. A visit to VAF was promising as the sound quality was awesome. (although I did secretly… Read more
beleive they had a Sub Woofer hidden somewhere to get such clean crisp bass)
I ordered my DCX's to put together in kit form but was very dissapointed to join a 6 week waiting list for them to arrive. After about 7 - 8 weeks of waiting and calling several times a week for updates, they finally arrived. The VAF service was excellent and due to my long waiting period (I think) the team had even assembled the speakers for me (with a saving of $500)
I go them home, run them for about 30 hours non stop and then let it rip. My house is very anti-clear sound with floating floorboards, no sound absorbing walls and a modern style open living area.
I was completely wrong in regard to the secret sub woofer in the show room. These speakers put out so much bass that when standing outside our house, you can hear certain architectual parts of the house vibrating and see the windows flexing when at half volume. Even in the worst most possible place of the house to have a high end hi fi system, the clarity is second to none whether listenting to Mozzart, pure vocals or banging techno and party music.
I am hearing new things in my all time favourite music that I never knew where there before. You can actually hear in realation to the stage where musicians are standing. ie drummer at back right, lead guitar front right, vocalist centre left.
I have two BOSS acoustimass speakers that I use as rears at the moment but as soon as I can afford it I will be in the market for VAF rear speakers for Cinema surround sound. I am still un-decided on whether to purchase a sub woofer for movies but my gut feeling at the moment is that I will be wasting my money as the DCX juse kick out bass.
I am not one to rave on but these speakers are phat! There will certainly be no disappointed.
A must "listen" for anyone looking for some powerful yet ambient sound

Excellent – I looked and listened to heaps of hifi setups and these definitely have to be the best bang for buck speakers around (if you can afford them) I purchased a complete set for a 7.1 home theater setup and was not disappointed. The only downside is that when you look at them in the showroom the acoustics in the showroom is designed by an audio… Read more
engineer and most home listening environments are not therefore they didn't have the base at home as compared to the showroom. I fixed that with a competitor brand subwoofer These speakers are great, my neighbors must hate them
If you power with a gutsy amp you will not be disappointed, sound quality that sounds like its coming from inside your head with volume levels to amaze!! I blew a tweeter, but i drive them very hard (not surprised)
Excellent – The fact that they can be bought in kit form, warrantee still applying, makes them not only cheaper but gives one a feeling of self satisfaction when playing them. I have had a set for 5 years & could easily afford others if not satisfied. I have decided to change them however because VAF have brought out a series IV model and I feel that they… Read more
are sonically improved.
I'm not an electronic engineer or whatver but I know what I like & the Generation IV VAF DCXs are an improvement on the now around 10 year old original DC-Xs.
The kit cost is $1999 and assembly by VAF adds $500 extra.
I know some will get sick of me saying this but "price for performance" makes these speakers unbeatable {Not a sales pitch... only my opinion!} "Price for performance" these speakers are fantastic. Nothing, however as far as some people go the fact that they are only sold from their outlet in Adelaide may 'put off' them off.
Good – This is a review of the new DC-X Generation 4 speakers, which I bought to replace my existing DC-X\'s. I assembled them myself to save some bucks. At one point I was investigating several other makes to see if I should stick with VAF, but no doubt about it - for the money these are just unbeatable. I\'ve loved the former DC-X for some years now,… Read more
and kept coming back to their accuracy, deep, clean response and big soundstaging. But the new incarnation is a definite step up. While the differences were obvious at first, it wasn\'t until I ran them against the old models that they really shined. More transparency all round, particularly up top. Improved tightness and definition down the bottom end. Less strain during loud and busy passages, and a cleaner mid-range with less \'grain\'. The twin-tweeters really work in casting a wider sweet spot, but without causing more side-wall reflections in my narrow room, oddly enough. Only a SERIOUS bass junkie would feel the need use a sub with these things, such is their response. I used to have one with my previous DC-X, but ended up getting cleaner, less boomy results without one, albeit minus the very bottom register. If you have other full-range speakers in a surround setup, then you have even less need. I also got a custom-made Generation 4 DC-X centre speaker, which easily beats their standard DC-6, if you have the room for it.
So really, I couldn\'t be happier now. They\'re nice looking (I got the \'old-style\' wraparound stocking finish), they\'re amazingly flexible with room-placement, and they\'re VERY easy to drive. And they sound bloody fantastic. Small
Compact
Excellent Quality
Smart Design There's nothing bad about it.
