Good – I bought this set top box off ebay for $25 around 18 months ago it's my first set top box and it has been fine, no problems at all until it stuffed up, so I opened the case up to see if there was anything noticeable wrong with it and it all seemed fine to me. For 25 buks I can't really complain its lasted over a year, I guess ill just spend a bit… Read more
more and buy a better one. Its slimline design is very good and its fairly easy to use. Was great for the first 18 months then the picture started to freeze with the sound still going so I reseted the power but it still freezes. Apparently reading from other reviews this is from the unit getting to hot. It works perfectly fine on cool days but when the room gets warmer it overheats and freezes.
Bad – At first it worked fine with exception of SBS which always had weak or no signal. Occasionally had "clicks" which was annoying, but it finally died - just outside the warranty period. It froze and cannot be reset and ended up in the bin. After doing some research on the web, it seems that a lot of people had the same problems. I assumed it could… Read more
have been a faulty model, but other TEAC STBs have similar press. After purchasing a HDD DVD recorder with digital tuner I can see the difference and the SBS works just fine. Inexpensive Freezes, bad reception of SBS
OK – The set top box itself is very good, very clear pictures but the remote is shocking. I returned it to the shop I bought it from and they tried it with two other identical remotes but the result was the same. The picture is very clear, even on my 15 year old TV in a terrible area for digital The buttons on the remote are extremely stiff and only work from time to time.
Good – Excellent Great Value for Money Don't expect to Get Briz 31 on it as they do not broadcast on Digital!! Easy to use and set up Plenty of features 110% improvment over anolouge Remote really user friendly Sometimes freezes and must be unplugged to restore functionallity. - occures approx 1 every 6 weeks not a big deal; tends to freezze on channel surfing and pressing buttons too quickly - likley operator fault not product related.
Good – This is a great set top box for the price when we got it, which was some time ago now. They were fairly new to the market then so there were not all the channel options we have now but it was still worth getting. It lasted us about 4 years which is good for a $100 digital box. Being able to view TV in wide screen is great. Having gone to digital… Read more
TV I don't think I could go back. It is not the highest quality box piece off electronic equipment, it can be a little gitchy sometimes, but for the price it is great.
Good – Good! Cheap! compact! and I'm happy with them for the price!! And I have found them reliable, and would buy another one, over some other brands! signal is around 70-74 on the same old uhf band V setup and 30db kingray amp 50kms to translator in hilly location hope this helps! cheap easy to use, owned 2 of these for 2yrs with good results yes… Read more
I would buy another! "Ive had other brands that have failed" locksup on the odd occasion, just reboot it. but its used around the clock
OK – When I was living at home, I had Foxtel Cable installed in my bedroom (I worked for them at the time and got it for free) so I got all the free to air channels as well as all the foxtel channels, however when I wanted to watch normal tv and record foxtel I couldn't, so I went out and bought this set top box. Could get all channels but channel ten,… Read more
and that was the channel I normally wanted to watch. In the end I cracked it at this unit and gave it to my brother, who was in the next bedroom, and the stupid box worked fine in his room! My partner has one of these in our bedroom now and we have never had a problem with their unit! Slimline design - good price - easy to use couldn't get channel 10 at all
Bad – Very disappointed with this stb, will be tossing it out tomorrow and purchasing another, it does however give a great picture in comparison to the regular reception. Was cheap at the time of purchase (April 2005) Rarely get reception on channel 7 & SBS, cracks up constantly and has no signal at all very often, I thought until just yesterday that… Read more
it was because the reception without the STB is very poor (almost not at all) in our area, however I recently purchased
Terrible – I am really glad to have the opportunity to vent on this machine. It was my first digital set top box and the first few hours I was really excited. Then I realised that after it is on for a few hours the bottom half of the screen becomes all fuzzy necessitating a reset. Then it froze and I had to get a software upgrade for which Teac wanted to… Read more
charge me. Finally after around 32.5 years it froze and I threw it in the bin. Another annoying thing was how susceptible it was to electrical interference. A very poor end to a once exalted hi-fi brand. It swore me off Teac for good. Cheap when I bought it. Unreliable, froze all the time, caused the picture to deteriorate every few hours, ultimately died
Terrible – Good Paper Weight Set up Freezes all the time - has no onboard mains switch to reset.. Cant set channells to user numbers Overheats .. cant read buttons.. Remote failed on 3 known units in 12+ Months Hard to find replacement remote i.e. Programable
OK – Worked quite well after the odd freezing problems the unit experienced before I updated its firmware through the Teac provided updates. But, it has suddenly died with a static pink screen, and now has to go in the bin, which is a bit sad because if it was worth it I would pay to get it repaired, but its not. Served us well for 2 to 3 years. Was… Read more
prone to disruption from other power sources, light switches, fans.
Remote was pretty cheap but not as bad as some.
Terrible – I would never buy one. Thank god I got it for free otherwise I'd be very angry. It has put me off from buying another TEAC set top box. Easy to setup. Well designed remote control. It came free with the purchase of a TEAC flat screen TV from Harris Scarfe in Adelaide in 2005. Screen freezes far too often. More on ABC, SBS and nearly all HD channels. The sound quality is also poor. Not sure if this is due to this box or the TV.
Terrible – When (if) it works it's a decent unit, but as per a previous post you should not have to put up with these problems with a new unit, and I didn't. Took it back to The Good Guys who gave me a full refund. I also notice an Ebay store is flogging them second hand, as warranty return goods but no fault found diagnosis??? for around $50. Looking at the… Read more
Sanyo model on special ($99)at Target now, see how that goes! Pretty good picture when it's working, otherwise.... Obviously a time and heat problem with these units as per other reviewers comments as after a while it gets hot and/or frezes or wont turn on without turning the power off at the socket.

Good – For someone who just wants to take the box home, unpack it, plug it in and turn it on without any hassle and spending hours reading the manual, this is the box for you. Sound and Video quality are very good. Straight out of the box it only takes about 10 minutes to setup. Easy to use. Haven't found any yet. Have been using the box for about 3… Read more
month now with no problems.
Only one thing missing is a small display at the front for channel numbers and time when in standby mode.
Good – An easy to use STB, that delivers good quality sound and video. This unit is easy to use and setup. It scanned all frequencies in about 1 minute and allocated correct numbering as per its relevant channel. Channel switching is fairly quick. Sound and video quality is very good. Sensitive receiver that only needs rabbit ears to pick up a good strength signal. (Brisbane area) Remore control symbols are a little confusing.
OK – I use it as a signal source for my PVR. It is working well for this. Inexpensive unit that delivers good features. Tech support is based in Melbourne and they are very helpful. Locks up occassionally after 3-4 days of continuous use. Doesn't output digital & standard audio channels at the same time.
