The Hyundai Excel was the first front wheel drive car produced by Hyundai. The Hyundai Excel was available in hatchback and 4-door models. Originally, the Excel was supposed to be replaced by the Elantra in 1991, but ended up being sold for four seasons until being replaced by the Hyundai Accent. The Hyundai Excel was available with either a manual or automatic transmission mated to a 4-cylinder engine aspirated by a carburetor or fuel injection system, depending on market and model year.

Pros:
- Cheap - Reliable - Looks OK - Not bad Gearbox - Not bad handling and suspension -Mine has almost done 200,000k and I never had any major problems with it...This car will take you from A to B and it will never complain no matter how much you throw at it
Cons:
- FUEL HUNGRY - Weak engine - Hard interior plastics break very easily
Overall:
It is a very reliable car. I have had it for around 3 years. I drive it around as well as my dad who is a tradesman so he take it to work. We don't really take too much care of it, we don't service it on regular intervals, and it has never asked anything more than just fuel. Never had any problems with it. NEVER. Which is more than I can say for aussie cars (Especially holden) which are the most unreliable cars I have ever had. This car will take you from A to B and it will never complain no matter how much you throw at it.
Overall:
I bought the exel auto 1997 and it already had 230,000km on the clock with original engine and transmission, since then I have clicked over 340,000km on the little car and she is still running like a treat. Well worth the expense of the occasional door handle. I give the car a rough life and it still keeps on going. I love the mileage I get the most.
Pros:
Small, easy to park, cheap to run, cheap to purchase, steers well, parts readily available, good visibility, reliable
Cons:
Cheaply made, door handles fall off, window winders fall off, bumpers and plastic components deteriorate terribly
Overall:
We've got a 1995 excel which has been running for 15 years without missing a beat until this year. It's about ready to go to the wreckers now and we've literally driven ours into the ground but for the purchase price we've more than got our money's worth. It is extremely cheap to run and easy to drive and park. Quality leaves a bit to be desired and over the longer term it's become a bit of a joke - you can often find the window winder/door handle etc has just come away in your hand. That said, I really can't complain about the Excel - it's been in two pretty sizeable accidents (60-70km per hour collisions, 1 involving a truck) and both times we've walked away without a scratch. They are pretty much at end of life at this point though and I don't think I'd be purchasing one now simply because I wouldn't purchase a car without airbags and the improved safety features we now have available. Great little car in it's day though.
