Pros:
Saves on both my gas bill and electricity bill, as it doesn't heat water until you actually need it. That's about it.
Cons:
Fussy design means it can be tricky to keep the hot water coming. Read on.
Overall:
I bought a house with one of these and it's the first time I've never had a hot water tank where I live. At first I was impressed because there's no doubt that it saves on your gas and electricity bills, as your water isn't being constantly heated 24/7 for your convenience. But then reality hit: too many showers where the water suddenly went cold. I came here to Product Review and found out that you need to fully open the hot water tap so enough water pressure flows through the Bosch to keep the pilot light lit, so I started doing that and it definitely helped... for a while. Sometimes the showers were nicely hot, but still the odd occasional cold one.
Today it dawned on me, however, that when running the bath for my kids, or using the hot water in the kitchen, it remained hot. Thus, the shower itself must be the problem. Coming back here to Product Review, I saw new reviews that mentioned this unit doesn't like water-saving shower heads. So I unscrewed mine and sure enough, there's a small blue plastic water-saver ring in there, under the washer. I removed the washer, ripped out the ring, put the washer back and screwed it back into the shower.
The verdict? Not only more water pressure now, but constant hot showers since! Woohoo! Yes, it will mean my water bill will increase, but probably not by much, and it's only when my wife and I have a shower. Anyway, I'd rather have constant hot water with good pressure than the cold dribbly showers we used to endure! The extra money is worth that.
So, would I recommend this unit? Probably not. I know others here hate the thing with a passion, but as always, everybody's experience is different. It's working for us now, but from what I've read here I wouldn't recommend it anyway. There are better alternatives, even though we got lucky with our unit.

Pros:
It's a water heater so i don't get too excited.
Cons:
Nothing as yet.
Overall:
It has been installed (10H external) on a bathroom built in my shed for 11 months. It is supplied by a small pressure pump and is used irregulary as the shed is partially guest quarters. I was persuaded to install it by my plumber and the fact i don't have power on the wall involved. Operation has been faultless and my plumber tells me it should remain so - he says it's all in the set up and he has installed over 20 with no real issues. This probably doesn't help a lot but i am happy with mine.

Pros:
zero,nada,nothing
Cons:
will not light, wastes alot of water when it does light, listening to wife complain
Overall:
from day 1,problems with this unit, would not light all the time, and then as if by magic it would, see it works i told my wife, get a plumber she says its not right, but its only new i reply,it will settle in,you wait and see.....well let me tell you,the next twelve months was a nightmare, plumbers, bosch service,my wife complaining, every thing from,we are not using the unit correctly, your expecting to much from the unit, just wait awhile for the hot water to come through the pipes, there is nothing wrong with this unit..the bosch plumber told us so.anyway 12 months went by with problems every other day, sometimes would light up fine for days, then suddenly it wouldnt,we had to turn the taps on and off constantly until it finally fired up,and then it seemed to work fine for awhile, get a independent plumber out here now, my wife wails, forget bosch reps, but now its 12 months and 1 week old,its out of warranty i said, fix the bloody water heater she screams, but its only brand new,i sighed, fix it she yells..ok its saturday ill call a plumber on monday allright my dearest,i didnt want to pay after hour rates for a plumber, anyway that sunday the damn thing blew out the hydrostatic unit, flooding our laundry and kitchen, iam going to kill you my wife explains in a calm voice, while quietly returning to read our sunday paper on the balcony,i run outside to turn off the water meter to stop the flooding,i then ring a 24 hour plumber for help, premium rates for call out on a sunday afternoon,he arrived very quickly, hey i would to for $150 a hour, only to be told that our water pressure was to high and before he could fix the bosch hydropower water heater, that saves us gas because of no pilot light and its good for the enviroment because it saves water over other units,is that we would have to install a pressure limiting device to our water meter at a cost of $350 and the water heater itself requires a new hydro unit at a cost of $250,but its just over 12 months old i yelled, and besides our old hot water unit, which by the way had a pilot light, lasted over 30 years without a single problem, yeh lifes tough the plumber replies,do you want me to start work now he asks...a quick calcuation in my spinning head $350+$250=$600,NO WAY I REPLIED,i just bought the bloodly thing 12 months ago,ill think about it and let you know, that will be $150 for the call out then the plumber says,i might get you back tomorrow, ill discuss it with my wife...i return to the balcony for a talk with wifey and sit down by her side, before i could open my mouth, she quietly asks has the problem been fixed..well i begin to say..well what, just answer me,is it fixed or not, well i begin again,no she says,is the problem solved or not,do we have hot water...silence from me...ill take that as a no then..WHY NOT IN A RAISED VOICED,because i thought i should discuss it with you first, discuss what she replies, discuss that we have had problems with this thing since day 1,discuss why we have no hot water, discuss why we have no house water at all now because the water meter is turned off,how about a cup of tea i say ,how she yells,we have no bloodly water....ill take a bucket next door and borrow some for the kettle i reply, silence from her...ill be right back i exclamed a good cuppa will fix us up...youll see...upon returning home home i discover no wife and the car is gone...shes probarly gone to her sisters house for a good moaning and groaning about her procrasternating husband,i settle down on the balcony for a quiet beer with my trusty dog by my side, you understand ,dont ya boy...you cant just go with the first inflated quote you get,you have to shop around first, that damn plumber could be taking advantage of our situation and robbing us blind..yes you understand dont yah fella, your my mate arnet you..yeh!..the door bell rings and its the overpriced plumber again, yes i ask...your wife called me back he informs me and everything will be sorted..my wife turns up in the car and tells the plumber to start work,he brushes past me into the laundry, tool box in hand and this time with a pimply faced apprentice,i look at my wife puzzled, she yells back..its in the boot get it out of the car now...whats in the boot i ask, just get the bloodly thing out she belts,i quickly jump into action and open the boot..wow i exclamed a brand new rheem stellar gas hot water system, just purchased from bunnings off the shelf,2 hrs later its installed and up and running...wow hot water again.we have not had one problem with the new rheem system and we both love it,thanks rheem....pls do not buy a bosch hot water hydrostatic system for your own sanity, its been 2 years now and hasnt missed a beat buy a rheem.....oh yeah one last thing we have just recently sold our home and moved to the country for a quieter life...and guess what the hot water system system in our new home is a bloodly bosch hydrostatic unit exactly the same cursed one we had,the old owner did tell me its a little tempermental at times...not allways lighting first go and all..can you bloodly believe that or what, pray for me people, pray for me please......
