So far so good – We have had solar hot water systems up until now but the growth of tall trees near our house has increased the shade and has made solar water heating less effective. was a heat pump system. Due to the many negative reviews, I had not considered the Rheem units in our evaluation. However, all the other brands of heat pump water heaters were too tall to fit in the only really practical location for the heater and we were forced back to the Rheem. Reluctantly, we agreed for the plumber to install the Rheem. After installation, it worked as expected, but two days later, both indicator lights were off. According to the manual, this was a fault condition. Now this is the only negative about Rheem that I experienced. Initial calls to Rheem indicated that this was the "new improved mode of operation" where the unit shut down completely once the tank was full of hot water. Not satisfied with this brush off, I caused a bit of a stink with Rheem and finally got onto a person who promised to send out a technician to look at it. He discovered an installation hick-up which caused the heat pump to shut down and the hot water we were still getting was from the back up heating element. He quickly fixed the problem and the unit has been working as expected since. The Rheem technician was very professional and definitely knew his product. So the only reason, Rheem doesn't get 5 stars is due to the front line staff trying to pull a fast one and brush me off with lies about the operation of their product.

Water too hot – Im an electrician, I couldn't adjust the temp on the old thermostat so I replaced it but the overload on the thermostat trips every day. The water is extremely hot. Looking at the circuit diagram I'm now thinking maybe the control board. Could this be the cause? this is the first fault we have had with this system.  Show details ·  1

Expensive and unreliable. Poor value for money – It keeps breaking and is expensive to fix. The heat pump section is broken and Rheem sent a technician who couldn’t fix it. It was running off the electric element and using three times the power but at least we had hot water. My last technician did something to it and now it’s completely dead. I am still waiting for Rheem to get it touch with a solution. Show details

Lasted 12 years – One minor repair. Can't complain. Worked well but in the end it failed to heat. Probably a refrigerant leak.

Keeps braking down and they will not fix it. - **** BEWARE **** – The heat pump has broken twice in 8 yrs and I haven't bother to get it fixed and it just runs on the element all the time, didn't see the point in wasting more money for it to break again. Total junk beware. Show details

Expensive Mistake...No more RHEEM for me !!! – We bought a brand new house on the Sunshine Coast in 2012. The builder supplied and installed a Rheem Heat Pump water heater. Fast forward to 2021. reviews and decided not to spend good money on this under engineered piece of rubbish, and now are replacing it with hopefully a better brand to heat our water..

Im afraid this "throwaway appliance" mentallity has finally worked its way up the pecking order to major items.

In years gone by, a hot water heater would last for a lot longer than 9 years before being unecconomicial to repair..

Wish I could give it zero stars – Wish I could give both the hot water heater and the company zero stars, and even that would be too much. The Rheem hot water heater was installed in a new home build in 2014. the compressor, so your on your own”. As the property was rented at the time of failure, he paid for a costly new compressor (on a at the time just over 2 year old unit). In 2017 the compressor failed again and the compressor had to be fixed yet again (now a 3 year old unit). In 2019 we bought the property. Having never had a heat pump hot water heater we had no idea that it wasn’t working correctly. 1 month after we moved in and kept running out of hot water, we figured out the compressor had failed again (now a 4 year old unit). When I called rheem I was told the same thing as the previous owner “sorry the compressor has a one year warranty, we can send out a technician at your cost”. When I asked “but the unit is only two months away from being 5 years old, a unit that cost over $3500 and it doesn’t even last past 2 years without having a fault. Wouldn’t a reasonable person think it should last longer or you should show some sort good will and stand by your product??” to which she replied “it’s lasted past it’s 1 year warranty so that’s all we will offer you”. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that “to be honest, they won’t do anything, it’s out of warranty, they never do”. After that, I spoke to the area manager hoping for some negotiation and common sense to prevail. Not my luck, he was basically an arrogant misogynist know it all who refused to engage in a conversation and spoke down to me. He told me to go take it to Department of Fair Trading because I didn’t know what I was talking about, standing by “it’s lasted past it’s 1 year warranty period”. I took it to Fair Trading and they pursued Rheem (they actually had a person who deals specifically with rheem complaints, not surprisingly). Rheem ignored them past the response period then after much chasing replied “not prepared to do anything, take us to the tribunal”.

Absolutely shameful company who are aware they have a inferior product! So many people and plumbers will confirm how terrible the unit and Rheem as a company are.

Do not buy one!! You are literally better off paying an increased amount on your electricity bill rather than paying the extra upfront and then ongoing costs of these heat pump hot water systems from Rheem.

here I'm sure there is going to be more repairs.What a waste of money.Stay away from Rheem and Beechwood need start using another company for their new houses. My last house had Hardie Dux and not 1 repair in 10 years.

the Rheem name. We have now been paying for direct element water heating for over 4 years which I'm guessing runs into thousands of dollars of extra electricity bills when we thought we were being energy efficient.

Do not buy a Rheem heat pump!!!

Total waste of money – Good Morning, after being pressured from our builder to purchase a Reem Heat pump MPi series2 ($2,800.00) now 3 years on we have needed to replace the system with another brand due to the heat pump death on the day before Christmas day and with no warranty due to 3 years old (=$1k per year) I feel the need to expose this poor quality & expensive product for what it is, Rubbish and more land fill.. with 2 red lights flashing, technician came out and tried resetting with no luck.

Purchased in 2009-2010 and stopped using for about 1 1/2 years due to rebuilding house.

If you look at the cost and years actually used, not value for money.

Have sent an email to fair trading because I believe not reasonable life for a unit so expensive.

Rang head office and asked to speak with manager, was told only option to send an email.

Customer service is as good as the product they sell....poor.

Have sent an email today waiting for a response.

Even the technician explained issues with earlier models.

Ordinary – Called out to repair one of these today. The operation problems and faults were obvious. Complete engineering disaster applenty. Due to how many of these installed locally we are looking at building a rework kit to save people some money. Unfortunately wont cover take failure. Rheeme solar hot water is just as bad. more punishment this time ,three grand plus repairs down the drain . The good thing now is there are plenty of decent heat pumps out there on the market , Rheem should hang there head in shame at their inability to rectify all the hws’s they sold after initial problems by the thousands started to present themselves ,rather they chose to keep selling a product they knew was a lemon straight off the shelf ,effectively cashing in on the customers belief that the Rheem name meant quality .

My advise along with the plenty of others on this highly effective platform “Product Reveiw” ,is stay away, far far away .

RUN AWAY if you are considering buying one of these – Garbage unit, now 7 years old and I have to replace it. Four warranty call outs in the first 3 years. Wires are burning near a connection and could possibly have caught fire. Worked well for a while but at a 3.5k cost now. RUN AWAY. last longer than 5 years, I had the same HWS at my previous house and stuffed up after 3 yrs and they just wipe their hands of you, don’t ever buy a rheem unless you don’t need hot water

Sadly, the reviews are right. This product is awful – Where to start. Didn't even get 2 year of use out of this unit. Was installed at new home and sat idle for a year before settlement. Once we moved in, the TX valve went 12 months in and was fixed by the builder. 8 month later the compressor goes which costs over $1,000 to supply and install. 2 plumbers recommended replacing this with a better… Read more

brand heat pump, one that is reliable. Gladly, this unit sits in a skip. While it was working, it was noisy, much louder than the new one.

Avoid this at all costs.

Total lemon. Rheem fail in their duty to care for their valued customers – Very expensive unit to buy and run (blatantly lied to about cost effectiveness versus solar) . Have spent at least $1000.00 in repairs and now it's stuffed up again. Honestly Rheem you should offer to replace this lemon. I do not have the money to fix it again!
