Compressions straps can then be used for emergency situations. self inflating time is good as it only takes about 10 minutes to self inflate. If more cushioning is required you can put some extra breathes into the mat. Can be picked up from kathmandu on slaes for a bargin length of mat, as longer than the "long Thermarest" mats
