After a number of years good service from my Ryobi split-shaft petrol Line-trimmer, the Ryobi finally died. Unable to purchase another Ryobi petrol… Read more

(they only supply battery-powered machines these days), I had to "shop around" for a reliable replacement. I chose a Masport MT23SS straight split-shaft (I need the split-shaft to fit into the boot of my car) and have been using it since April 2025. I have found the motor to be powerful enough and that it has to be the easiest 2 stroke motor to start (hot or cold) that I have ever experienced. Just follow the instructions in the book and it starts on the second or third pull when cold and usually on the first pull when hot. BRILLIANT. The downside to the unit is the split-shaft it leaks grease at the join and has to be wiped clean with the unit covered with an absorbent rag prior to placing it in the car. I have also found that it is often difficult to "line up" the two sections when re-joining them (annoying, but not an unsurmountable problem). To sum up yes, I like the unit for it's reliability and, despite the design problem with the split shaft and would not hesitate to recommend it (perhaps opting for the "fixed" shaft).
