Last edited Excellent Level Indicator for Rain Water Tanks or Bore Water Tanks – We have three 5000 gallon concrete water tanks that we use for rain water & for our bore water. Knowing just how full our tanks are is vital to us to ensure a reliable water… supply because we do not have any town water connection or any other water supply. We have used an Australian made level indicator called the Levetator for probably 20 years now - longer than the purchase field for this site allows me to put in. Many water tank indicators show an inverted indication of the water level, where the indicator at the top means that it is empty & at the bottom is full. That sort of indication can be confusing. You can sometimes get it wrong even when you are used to it . The Australian company, Yaktek Industries, makes the Levetator which gives an indication that is the correct way arround. It has a folded stainless steel sheet metal part that is fitted on top of the tank which has three small pulleys in it. Inside the tank is a float & a weight on a cord or stainless steel wire rope. The weight drops as the float rises which moves the aluminium outside indicator. The indicator has a red refective band which can be seen from quite a distance night or day. Stainless steel wire rope & brass pulleys are an option for extra reliability or fire use. Our pulleys are not brass & have lasted more than 20 years. As I mentioned, we have used a Levetator for probably 20 years in our bore water tank. We have had to replace the cord 2 or 3 times & we replaced the weight although that probably wasn't necessary. All the parts have listed extremely well in that time. We have also had to free up the pulleys once or twice. I sprayed a bit of dry teflon lubricant into the pulleys. DO NOT USE OIL, WD40, or any other liquid that will leave a residue because that will attract dust & stop the pulleys working properly. My Levetator is on the other side to the access hole so I cut a hole in the top of our tank & fitted a 100mm PVC DWV (Drain Pipe) fitting which has a flat cover plate that is held on with screws. It was just fitted to the tank with silastic. It allows access at any time for maintenance. Each time our string has failed it has been on the part that goes to the indicator so the internal weight & float can be just fished sideways. When I contacted Yaktek Industries a few years ago about a replacement weight, they were promp & courteous & the cost was economical. Although the company has changed ownership, a recent contact was also replied to promptly. I notice that Yaktek now make a variation of the Levetator called the Liquidator which has the weight on the outside of the tank so that only the float is inside but I haven't seen one. The indicator slides up & down a 50mm or 2" pipe or square section material with the weight inside. The indicator can not blow arround or be deflected like it can on the Levetator. (This has never been a problem with us even with cyclones). I presume the Liquidator models would be just as reliable since they have the same mechanism. There is now also a further improved & almost completely sealed Liquidator 2. This is a reliable & useful product that makes life much easier for us. |

Last edited Mozzigear Mosquito Click Works Great for Bites & Itches & Disease Itches – My wife literally scratches her skin away with itching from mosquito & sand flies. I saw these at the camping section in Big W & bought one to try. That was several years ago.… It works fabulously. She has to do quite a lot of clicks on & around the bite. I only have to do a couple. It also works for rashes & itches from disease. We even gave one away to a counsellor who had an itch during a session. He couldn't believe it worked but it did. These are around $20 in most shops but if you look up Mosquito Zap, Mosquito Click etc on eBay then they can be got for as low as a couple of dollars from Chinese suppliers - including post. Some of the Chinese ones have weaker zaps than others but at the low price you can afford to toss a few away if you don't find it effective & still stock your car, first aid kits, beside the bed & anywhere else than you can think of without hurting the budget too much. BTW if an eBay one is not working or is too weak the contact the seller for a new one. We have also used it for itching & rashes from skin conditions & disease with good effect although we use a cheap one & toss it after use for a disease. |

Last edited Philips AquaTouch Plus AT891 Works well but cleaning is a PITA – The AT891 shaver works well, the charge lasts & being able to wash to head out is great. I do use the shaver lube that the shaver shop recommended. The trouble is when you… disassemble to clean it. The blade cover that the blade rotates in has two tiny protrusions that have to fit in the head to locate it & stop rotating. They are hard to see where they have to go - & I have OK eye sight. The plastic head is all black in the socket so it is hard to see if they are sitting right. The blade covers are not symmetrical so they only go in the one way. The rotating blade then sits in & there is a spring loaded cover that holds them in place. It has to sit just right & there is a tiny knurled wheel in the centre that you turn to lock it in. I find almost always that I somehow get it together looking correct but it isn't quite. The shave makes an awful noise when you turn it on. Then I have to disassemble & try again. I have had six attempts at times. I have OK eye sight & have done well at medical dexterity tests but I find it frustrating. Putting it together is the one disappointment with this shaver. reliable, water proof, charge lasts reasonable time. Hard to reassemble after cleaning. |
