Basically the ability of this Blu-Ray player to read a multitude of file formats makes it a high definition media player as well as a Blu-Ray player. I got mine for about $200 which makes it amazing value, especially when you consider it can access some internet such as You Tube and Picasa content too. The Netcast feature only allows access to You Tube, Picasa, and Accu Weather when there is so much more great content on the web. I believe this may have been improved in newer models.
