previously owned 3 Breville coffee machines over a 10 year + period, with the most recent being the Breville Oracle, which started to crap out after 4 years of consistent daily use. I liked the the look of the Delonghi with the price and features very appealing. I read reviews and watched YouTube videos from Delonghi and your average user prior to purchase.

Unfortunately, despite my research, for me, this coffee machine is a big fail.

Milk: It produces woefully inadequate milk, that is far from barista quality. As you can see from my video, the steam wand basically blasts the milk with copious amounts of steam to at times overflowing. I have varied the quantity of milk and the size of the jug, without success. The machine fails to create the vital whirlpool stage that is required for milk texturising - see here: https://www.perfectdailygrind.com/2018/02/barista-basics-texture-milk-14-steps/ This is the basics of a quality milk coffee, which Breville machines always manage to get right and where Delonghi appear to have no clue. There is no control over the time you wish to use the steam wand (it just stops) or the quantity of steam that blasts out. The flat and foam options on the wand are useless, with the foam option providing a luke warm watery thin end result. Fail.

Coffee grind, Portafilter and Pump: Poor design and the size of the portafilter creates a very mild watery thin pour, which is far removed from the thick liquid gold that you should get from a machine at this price point, despite altering the grind. Infact I would go as far as to say that a Nespresso Pod would deliver a better tasting and structured Crema and I'm not a huge fan of Nespresso Pod style coffee machines, but here we are. Fail.

Water Leakage: As previous posters have mentioned, this machine has a serious flaw with holding its water. Yesterday we were presented with a new, yet very much unwanted water feature in our kitchen, thanks to the La Specialista. There is also no indication as to how much water is sitting in the tray, again a simple fix that Breville machines get right. Fail.

The basics Delonghi, the basics. You have failed miserably.

A fair question to ask is why I didn't just get another Breville, this is due to the fact that Breville no longer have an authorised repairer in Canberra, so I took my chances with the Delonghi. A fail to Breville and once bitten twice shy with Delonghi.

I'm returning my machine to The Good Guys today and requesting a refund. For those of you considering this machine, please don't waste your time and hard earned $
