a call from Electrical Safety Qld asking to inspect the works (tipped off by another party). After the regulators inspection the work was deemed non-compliant and unsafe. The works were disconnected and a notice written to have it fixed. He used single insulation wire, exposed copper and then found at by the electrician 2.5mm cable on a 32A circuit breaker. Completely dangerous.

I contacted Airtasker asking for compensation to cover the rectification works - or even just a refund. I got told that per their terms and conditions it was not their obligation to refund and I should contact the worker (who now won't answer the phone). No offer of any compensation what so ever. Unbelievable. I will pursue further.

Don't use them. Contact HiPages where the trades are vetted and guaranteed.

I created a contract, paid milestones then had a freelancer just stop responding. Only responeded when I asked for a refund. I lost time and a lot of money. I found the hard way you have no protection and you will loose your money if a freelancer just decides not to finish the contract. And to top it off the freelancer is allowed to give you a bad review.

Such has been my experience. Many emails back and forward with Upwork's so called 'support' team (they should be called the un-support team). Upwork wash their hands of providing any support for such issues. I am only seeing it from my side but it was pretty clear cut that I had been ripped off by a Freelancer. I ask to be fully compensated and there was not one offer of any sort of rectification by Upwork at all. I would have been happy if even they returned the fees I had paid or offered no fees on a new freelancer but zilch and here we are.
