  Cuisinart ICE-21

Does the job, but noisily – This is the first ice-cream make I've ever owned so don't have anything to compare it to. It makes great ice cream but as others have said it can be a bit loose when in the bowl.

I churn it for the full 20 minutes to make it a bit thicker. You have to get the ice cream out straight away or the stuff in contact with the bowl will set hard and be difficult to remove without scratching the lining of the bowl. I also have not been able to get it to make a good sorbet, they tend to stay a bit slushy and wet, but that might be because of the room temperature or the sugar content of the mix. I need to play with the variables a bit more.

For a company that prides itself on making quiet appliances they seem to have missed on this one. For a gadget that is essentially an electric motor with a frozen bowl and a stirring attachment it is extraordinarily noisy. I measured it at 70db from 1 metre (I'm a science teacher).

Despite this it gets used at least a couple of times a month becuase we enjoy playing with ice cream recipes.

Big and strong – Copes with everything put in it, and quickly! This thing is really heavy, though, so if buying for a slightly built kitchen goddess it may need to live on the counter-top. Not

everything is dishwasher-safe, the plunger needs to be washed by hand. The utensils included do pretty much everything you could want, and after a year I still haven't had an excuse to make use of all of them.

Went Without a Hitch – Great purchase. I ordered a Neff oven and a Neff 90cm Induction cooktop. The prices absolutely blitzed any local supplier, though this isn't necessarily the case with all brands

(some are fixed price worldwide). The stuff turned on time and packaged in strong wooden boxes. Very impressed! I already recommend them to friends.

The Best Thing In My Kitchen – I took a punt and purchased this online via a Belgian company. I had never used an induction cooktop but hoped it would be better than a ceramic or gas cooker. One of the big

benefits of induction is that it gives off far less heat than the alternatives, so the kitchen doesn't get as hot in the summer, and important factor in N. Victoria. It also allows for much finer control than even gas, this model has 18 levels of temperature for each of the 5 hobs. You can combine two hobs to make a really big burner for using a big rectangular roasting pan. Getting suitable pans was really easy as most new pans these days are made to be compatible with induction cooktops, even the really cheap ones from the supermarket.

There is a review for a similar cooktop on this site that complains about fatty marks being burnt on. I have had some marks being left on the top when using high temperatures but they came off easily with a ceramic top cleaner (about $4.50 from the supermarket). It is still far, far easier to clean than a gas cooker and the marks come off with much less effort than a ceramic top.

In 18 months it has always worked perfectly and looks almost as good as the day it was installed. I would definitely buy another one (from the same supplier). I absolutely love it!

Black gunk and cracked lid – We started getting the black bits on the washing after about 2 years (we've had it for 4 years now). Now the plastic surround on the lid is starting to break down and go brittle.

The plastic on the top went a yellow/ beige colour after about 18 months despite never being in direct sun. I'm not going to bother spending money to fix it, I'll put it towards a non-samsung replacement machine.
