I paid $265. For an ancestry DNA and 2 months on still no results. Several complaints via email only gets you a chat bot and their supposed phone number is unreachable outside of the USA. Don't waste your time or money, try my heritage website.
I’m posting this to warn others, not to get help. I used 23andMe’s DNA test and set up profiles for my family. Due to a small issue in one profile (a birthdate typo), they’ve now locked me out of my child’s DNA data unless I upload a government-issued ID — for a minor. This is after 23andMe was already hacked and millions of genetic profiles were compromised. Now they want more sensitive documents — no alternatives, no flexibility, and no response when concerns are raised.
This isn’t just bad service. It’s a serious privacy failure. People are trusting this company with DNA and getting punished with more exposure if anything goes wrong.
You should know this before you buy. Once you give them your data, they can hold it hostage behind more ID checks — with no way to get it back.
Frustrating – I accidentally ripped the return packaging for my DNA kit , reported this through the 23and me portal over 2 weeks ago but cannot talk to anybody direct to follow up !
Not impressed – I ordered a DNA kit in August for a present for my Dad for fathers day which did not arrive. I emailed to ask for a replacement and was told to wait until the 25 September 2023 which I did and then emailed again. I was then told to wait until 9 October. In every correspondence, it says "I will await your reply confirming you are able to receive your replacement kit" Not impressed at all.

After another 3 emails to 23 and me via their portal still have not received any contact. I have also tried to call on their 1800 309 8081 phone number but says it's no longer in use. Quick to take your money but hard to get any help . This is ridiculous!
