AEG 12V Heated Hoodie Questions & Answers

I searched Bunnings and these batteries are apparently still available. It would seem that Bunnings have exclusive distribution rites.

There was one. I don't know if it is still available. Check with Bunnings.

My recollection is that AEG recommend warm hand washing. You must remove the battery and battery holder before washing. Do not spin dry or dry it in a clothes dryer. To avoid fading the colour I hang mine in a shaded area and allow it to dry. It is not fast. It takes quite a long time to dry. Just be patient. Any attempt to hasten the drying process may cause the early demise of the hoodie or jacket. BE PATIENT!

You are also missing the battery holder. To use the heated jacket the 12 Volt battery slides into a holder and then the lead in the pocket of the jacket plugs into a socket in the battery holder. I don't know what chance you have of getting any of those components. I bought my jacket from Bunnings some years ago and I haven't seen them for sale since. It may be worth talking to the Special Orders staff at Bunnings. If the parts are still available I am sure they will do their best to get them for you.

AEG also make a 18 volt battery adaptor that has both a USB port to charge you phone and a round port to run your 12 volt jacket..the battery poket also has a extra internal zip to expand the pocket to house the larger battery...

JayCars sells a 12v powerbank (USB charged) + some connections to marry it to the AEG jacket plug.(approx $65 - take the jacket with you to get the correct connections). Being a powerbank it sits flatter in the storage pocket above my kidney, esp when I am driving or sitting! Likewise a cigarette lighter 12v cable for heated jackets (see Amazon for example) can be wired to the jacket connector whilst driving, thus saving my powerbank for the outside.

So far as I am aware they have not been available for a long time. I purchased mine about eight years ago. Your only hope would be to search on line and hope someone in the world still has some stock available. I have two which I still wear in Winter but since I no longer feel the cold as much as I did previously I no longer use the heat facility.

How do I charge the battery?

I have an AEG 12v jacket and it has a side zippered pocket to store an AEG 12v battery. This is charged by using their separate 12v battery charger for their 12v range of drills.

I haven't worn my jacket for some time but from memory when you press the button the first time the indicator light is red. Red indicates the high heat setting. Successive presses of the button reduces the heating effect. To turn the heater off you hold the button in until the light goes off.

The battery is a standard AEG 12 Volt battery which is available from Bunnings as is the charger. There should have been a battery holder with the jacket. You put the battery in the holder and then plug the cable from the jacket into it. If you didn't receive the holder with the jacket before buying a battery and charger you need to visit the special orders desk at Bunnings and see if they can get the holder for you.

That holder is an adapter to go on the 18v battery for jacket and usb like phone its on ebay and awesome i can try and get and send to you if helps

With the 18v power adapter that you were talking about from Bunnings, Wouldnt that be pretty bulky to Carry around?

There are three temperature settings. Red is high, White is medium and Blue is low. To turn the heater off you press and hold the button until the light goes off.

All you have to do to wash the hoodie is unplug the lead from the battery adapter and remove it and the battery from their pocket inside the jacket. I have washed mine following that procedure many times. There is nothing else you can remove.

There are a number of potential causes for this. If your charger indicated the battery was fully charged then that should not be the issue. It certainly doesn't take anything like 24 hours to charge the battery. The possible alternate causes are a faulty battery holder or perhaps the jacket is faulty.

When you initially turn the hoodie heater on by pressing and holding the button for a few seconds the heater is enabled at the highest temperature which is indicated by the red light. If you then press the button momentarily the light changes to white which indicates medium. Another press will step the heater down to the low setting which is indicated by the blue light. To turn off the heater press and hold the button in any heat setting until the light goes off. I hope this helps.

The on/off button is on the left hand side of the hoodie (When you are wearing it). By pressing it for a few seconds the heater turns on. Subsequent presses step through the three temperature settings. By holding the button in till the LED turns off the heater is turned off.

Hi Louise, I wear mine in Winter even if I don't need the heat so it gets washed a few times per year. AEG say to hand wash and although my washing machine has such a cycle I don't use it. I hang it on a coat hanger on my shower screen. I get it wet with the shower head and then I rub in a liquid laundry detergent. I then use the shower head to rinse it thoroughly. I do not attempt to wring it out because that may damage the heaters. I just let it drip dry. When I shower I just move it to the outside of the screen and then back when I am finished. I think it is now about four years old and still works well. I hope this helps. Make sure you take out the battery and holder first. David Berriman

Hi Martin I can't speak for that size but I am a medium for most clothing and mine are very comfortable over normal clothing.
