home years ago, our two kids? and partners still prefer a full traditional northern hemisphere style Christmas dinner with all the trimmings that they contribute to. This is despite being Australian born, well educated and progressive people, who fully understand Christmas in Australia is often celebrated in near century heat for days on end! Apparently they appreciate the love, security and familiarity that comes with tradition.

After viewing many eye-wateringingly priced trees, we settled on an Aldi special buy item. It came in standard green fir tree or green tree with faux white snow flocking. Sight unseen we chose our ridiculously low-priced, northern hemisphere looking snow covered item (decorations not included), duly decorated it in our chosen colour scheme for this year’s festive season and held our breath. Comment from friends and neighbours alike is “we did good”.

Now to get the aircon tech in to ensure we can at least partly emulate a cool white Christmas.

The Aspen 7ft Luxury Flocked Christmas Tree - 213 cm (7ft) comes in 3 easy to assemble sections. The branches fall to a predetermined position on the one piece base to balance the tree. The smaller branches are moveable to create the desired effect. Like all snow covered items there is some cleaning up once you are happy with the final result.
