Altec Lansing FX6021 Computer Speakers

Nearly perfect – I have had these speakers for several years now and I tired replacing them with Audioengine A2 speakers recently which got very good reviews from audiophiles. The Audioengine speakers are not as good as the FX3021 though I have found even though people rave about them. The sound stage of the FX6021 is very large and fills the room with sound. The Audioengine A2 has a very small sound stage and you have to be in front of the speakers to hear all of the frequencies. Both sets of speakers sound similar in the sense that you can clearly hear all of the instruments and sounds in a track. The FX6021 though as a slightly fuller sound, which might be because it has a sub woofer, which the Audioengine A2 does not.
The only negative comment I have to make about the FX6021 is that there is hissing coming out of the speakers. The Audioengine does not do this. And yes it is true when you press the off button on the FX6021 it does not actually switch off. I have measured the energy usage using a meter and found when off the FX6021 still draws 20 watts. One of the best sounding speaker sets around. Better than Audioengine products in my opinion. Hissing through the speakers
Excellent – I bought this system about two years ago after reading computer speaker reviews. I have it in the living room connected to Ipod. Too good to be connected to computer. When you listen to music you will hear instruments not heard before because of the twelve micro drivers, six a side operating at different frequencies. I cannot recommend this system highly enough. Brilliant sound Slight hum from sub but not a problem
Bad – A good try that doesn't quite make it all the way. Constant humming seriously hampers the usability of the system. More colours to chose from would also be nice for those who are specific about the look of their desk. Interesting design, clean sound apart for the humming base. Sounds great even at higher volumes. Constant humming from the base, even when turned off. The off switch mutes audio but doesn't turn of the system, witch I find unacceptable in this day and age of environmental concern. This makes the system always draw power from the socket.
